Wow, this tune is perfect to demonstrate the economy of C#/D basses! Thanks, Stiamh.

Hi Stiamh.. I have been learning the C#/D since Christmas and your videos have been a great help as there is very little instruction here where I live.. Can you list the other names for this Polka as I cannot find it anywhere .thanks!!

Hi Jeff... I just had a poke around on thesession.org and found it pretty quickly. Apparently it's called "The Maids of Ardagh" and it seems to have about 20 other names too! Tune no. 466 on there - thesession.org/tunes/466

I have been learning to play D/C# irish american system, having fun and making progress. I have been considering a 12 bass instrument, and considering the Derrane,John Williams setup. Can you tell me what the Benny McCarthy 12 bass setup is? Thank you.

Glad to hear you're making progress, Zeke, but I'm afraid I don't know the answer to your question. I don't know what your current bass setup is, but assuming it's the same as a standard C#/D, I'd say the really important addition is an F/C bass-chord pair. What to put on the other extra pair is a bit of a toss-up, I think. Jackie Daly has E/C#.
