I don't know how to explain it but joss' voice has viscosity, it's thick, you can feel/touch it. Her voice isn't just sound, it's physical.
A really good vocalist is the instrument to there bones! No fear or rejection and does it in the now! All musicians that are good are in the now! And in the pocket!

I agree- I think her producers messed her up/ tried to transition into pop music after she got noticed for the blue eyed soul she rocked harder than just about anybody. She was awesome but they tried to water her down IMHO.

Similar to Jennifer Hudson, she never made great timeless records. Both have extreme talent, but you really need a good team to make great records.
Joss has one of the most soulful beautiful voices I've ever heard. Pure talent. She had to tolerate a bit of a bullying mentality from the press who just decided to be arseholes. They should have been grateful for her voice and quite honestly were bullies.
@@wanderer4life - She didn't have hits though. I honestly cannot name one of her songs or albums and I saw her in ACL and bought her album about a decade ago.
Right to be Wrong is the most memorable I should think. We're all guilty of forgetting song titles , like Macy Gray with I Try or Roads by Portishead . That Portishead tune is genius and I hope you got to hear it in a mates car coming back from a Carl Cox night in Bournemouth. As the pills wear off but the buzz still alive through the car speakers.
I just love a nostalgia buzz, and to remind ourselves some nights nothing mattered beyond that moment. In the case of Joss she must've only been about 16 back then. It's a while ago now. The other day I woke up and I'm in my forties. What a voice and we've not seen the end of Joss coz I think she's only 31 now and just had her first baby I believe. She established herself early because she had the talent and she picked her own lane. If she'd been willing to sell her soul to people like Cowell she could have APPEARED to fly higher. But in a meaningless way. And she didn't. So because she maintained her principles, Cowell gets to the press, the press get to her, so she bailed. And I don't blame her.
@@wanderer4life I think she came in a time when you really needed to sell your soul to get big in the music industry and work with the likes of Max Martin/Dr Luke which is why less talented white chicks like Adele and Taylor Swift and Katy Perry remain Pop Mainstream relevant. Yes, I think Adele is overrated.
For those who don't know, the guitar player is Dave Stewart. He was 1/2 of the Eurythmics & co-wrote this song with Annie Lennox.

When Annie and Dave did this song back in the 80s, it was original and beautiful and that version is still my favorite. Because I grew up with Annie Lennox and the Eurythmics, their versions will always be my favorite. But, I believe Joss did an incredible rendition, and I like it, too.

yes JOSS is a singer with voice ,i always considered JOSS stone of of the rare young generatin good voices that are not done justice to by the commercial scene like pop clip singers ,i think joss is a modern version closer to legends talented voices such as aretha franklin and janis joplin and other one of the young generation that is closest to those ,love from ALGERIA
Very talented singer, yes, with a great voice, but for my taste she dresses up her songs too much with flash vocal stuff- they'd be more powerful if she went with the simpler, more original versions.

Yes there are real super voices in today's mainstream music, maybe they are more on the pop side but they're still amazing: Whitney, Christina, Alicia, Joss, Leona, Norah, P!nk, Celine... and the list goes on and on... Unfortunately, these times vocals are overshadowed by auto-tune.
