Goku’s will to stay alive in the middle of the bomb was what ultimately pushed him to unlock it also. It kicked in while he was unconscious.

Everything he does is like a Destructo Disk, it cuts through anything so long as his power isn’t too ridiculously eclipsed by his opponent’s power level
