    Leinster were their own enemy, they had opportunities to take the 3 pointers and opted for the line to maul and score tries, in finals you take any points up for grabs. In finals you dont play flashy rugby, you build scoreboard pressure and then from their you can try other tricks in the bag. Well done Toulouse, and i think Leinster needs to look at a new coach, Leo Cullen is running out of ideas, and everyone knows how Leinster plays, and work them out to counter their attack.

      Yeah. They just need to lay off the corner kicks by like 25% and go for sticks.

    Once again Leinster should kick at the posts more and not try to get a try...Poor game management Nice review Alfred Thanks

    The incredible thing is Leinster are going to rise the bar again next year. As a Leinster supporter I can’t wait for next year.

    As a French fan, I think Touloiuse accepted to adapt their game to Leinster by focusing way more on the breakdown and defence, while Leinster just played as always and kicke to touch instead of the posts, which lead to every team's worst enemy, doubt. In other words, when you chose not to kick to the posts and cannot score, you are using your confidence jauge and filling the opposition's one.
    The fact that they had already lost the two previous finals probably had an impact on the doubt, but let us not forget they beated down Toulouse the last two years. I do nto think the difference was in their rugby skills (I meam, all of the 46 players have proper talent), but in the type of game each team decided to play and how the other team was able to respond.

      Its not the first time Toulouse decide to addapt and first counter the opposition first strenght instead of running their own games, especially during a final. They've done this against La Rochelle in the past few years, I recall them doing this against Toulon and Montferrand back in the days as well. I'm surprised Leinster was not ready for that scenario and never properly tried a plan B.

    Being very much a novice, it seems to be an Irish concern that at critical moments they do not perform. As a South African I feel with them as our cricket team has the same problem.

    French fan here. I do not think there is mental weakness in Leinster. They are playing a perfectly tuned rugby. Maybe too perfectly tuned. It seems they are playing every phase the same way with the same intensity and same tactichal approach. Thet are lacking constrast in there game. This is the coach job to guide them in a more "adapted to the situation" rugby.

    Toulouse fan here. Honnestly I think that our players have worked so hard and improved on the ruck zones and that was mainly the key of the match. And maybe that in a corner of our players' heads, they had a revenge to take over Leinster. Taking more than 40 points against that team stick in mind and help to improve mentally.

      @aircongosney 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Mate, every ruck they were off their feet. Another ref would have had them off killing the ball.

      @@aircongosney we have just played the Leinster game. Slowing down the rucks but I cannot let you say that they were Always off feet that's not true.

    Leinster failed to win a final again but they are not failures, they got into a final again, they have the strength in depth to be perennial finalists, the difference may be in a du Pont like talisman who can get his team to dig deep and find the resolve to keep an attack the likes that Leinster has, out.

    When you consider that Leinster was never in front on the score board during the entire game and only went behind the try line once to three time for Toulouse then there is also an aspect of game management and how cleanicall each time has been to take into consideration.

  • @richardlangdoc7852
    @richardlangdoc7852 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

    Hey Leinster, it is much harder to win when the referee applies the rules at the ruck : holding after tackle, going over the advantage line, entry from the side, not releasing when tackle is complete.
    I did not count the number of penalties against Leinster at the ruck, but it must be the vast majority

    Alfie, this year we COULD have won. In Marseille and especially in Dublin we SHOULD have won. There is no shame in coming second to this excellent Toulouse team.
    After all, we were within a drop goal of winning it at the death, though that would have been a steal. At least Frawley had a go, unlike Ross Byrne last year.

    Is Leinster falling short again perhaps a failing that is similar to the problem that Ireland have to get past the quarter finals in World Cups.

    • @_alienblood
      @_alienblood 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Munster won the URC trophy cup last year, Leinster won 4 titles only Touluse have more at six after today, Leinster have made the last 3 cup finals loosing by a point to la rochelle twice in 2 years Man City lost to Man Utd today doesnt make mean Man City are bad team they keep making it to the latter stages of tournements same as Rugby the better teams are always in the Finals.

  • @jmurphy9657

    I dont believe this loss is as much of a failure than the prior years. Last year, Leinster came in red hot, Ireland were flying and the Leinster team were supposedly unbeatable. This time around, theyve been run close in a few occasions, arent sitting atop the URC and, imo, benefitted greatly from La Rochelle having travel away to SA in the last 16 before then returning to Dublin to play Leinster.
    They start well and usually score first, but considering this same group of players has the chance to play domestic and international fixtures together, they should be dking much better.

    Think Cullen should be sacked at this stage. Also nienabar is a great coach but not the right coach for Leinster. Our attack has been toothless all season. He’d be more suited to a team in the premiership or even La Rochelle.

    • @BonuxCouleur
      @BonuxCouleur 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      La Rochelle has played fast attacking rugby the year of its first title but an ECC Final is not always the place for this, you have to be able to do the attrition stuff. In that respect I don't think nienabar would fit any Top 14 side, we have seen with Jake White in Montpellier, Montpol has been the most boring side for quite some time, he had zero understanding of the local rugby culture understandably so. Pau, Bayonne, Toulouse, Perpignan, Bordeaux, they have all played an expensive brand of rugby. For me, French coaches are best fitted either that or you need a foreign coach who has played in France in his career. Super Rugby experience does not work in France. We could not be further for that model. The South African game is too stereotyped, there is no flair to it, it is all hit and run. Only Vern Cotter and Ronan O'Gara managed to really bring something to the table while understanding the need for flair. There is also Gonzalo Quesada but he has learned his coaching trade in the Top 14 so he is the closest thing to a French coach.

    Im not too beat up over their performance today. They couldve won it. But they just weren't at their best today. And Toulouse was. Jack Willis and Dupont world class.
    However im a bit uneasy about 3 final losses in a row. Its amazing making the final 3 times. But questions gotta be answered. They need to find a way to win these big games.
    They better show up in the URC now. Losing both would be too much for me.

    Devastating for Leinster once again. Our attacking game has fallen apart as they are clearly putting too much effort into this rush defense system which has glaring weaknesses and exposes us in the back field. Now our attacking game has fallen by the wayside. Cullen Has to finally step aside. He's had far too many chances already. This Leinster team have the best players out of any generation of Leinster team and are somehow the least successful.
