But they approved antidepressants which don’t work and you can’t get off of them. The. Doctor listed to the drug companies and not their patients when they experienced horrendous withdrawals when switching drugs or trying to get off them. Let’s not mention the memory loss and Zero sex drive.

The Texas Dr. had such a huge bias and dismissal against Ketamine it's almost seems like he's for big pharma antidepressants instead. I'm sure his school gets tons of kickbacks to keep antidepressants at the forefront of depression treatments prescribed.
He also seems to be stuck on the "there's so many clinics out there who aren't going to prescribe ketamine under our guidelines" uhhh so now you're concerned meds aren't being prescribed "to your standard" so let's just dismiss it's positive effects because some people aren't supposed to take it. I hope he's had that same energy on opiate prescriptions being so irresponsibly prescribed for years.
Tell me you're for big pharma without telling me you're for big pharma.

Big Pharma is making money off the nose spray! They’re making money off the ketamine sold to these clinics. For most psychiatrists to send you to a clinic, they’ve made big bucks off of the plethora of antidepressants. It’s always about the money! Don’t think for a second that Big Pharma will always be making money off of everything they possibly can. I’m sure they’ve already had actuaries figure out how much they can make between the point in time they start selling this drug and the point in time when people start dying. And they would have already figured the lawsuits into the picture. Then they’ll pull the drug, and they’ll drive you to the street where you’ll find the drug. Then you lose your home and family and join the homeless community. They’ve used you up and you are disposable. Enter new miracle drug and repeat.

It is so frustrating listening to this, elderly doctor from Texas.
This old doctor clearly does not have enough sample size integrity to realize that there are it’s not possible to offer alternative options with treatment. Why don’t you a fair comparison between daily low-dose ketamine treatment, and the garbage, SSRIs, and arise and move stabiles we are all expected to find efficacious. My doctor has never suggested adding an opiate to my treatment. This was a completely unproductive 30 to 40 minute listen in my opinion.

As a long-time patient of the VA Healthcare system, I found out about S-Ketamine -- I believe that's correct -- when I was going to a community clinic in my area where I received TMS treatments for about 9 months; and at this clinic, they offer Ketamine treatments for treatment-resistant depression and OCD, in addition to TMS. I inquired after possibly receiving VA-sponsored Ketamine, however, I was told it basically was indeed authorized, yet, it had to be "administered on-site," which, despite being considered a "flagship" hospital (I assume it has something to do with working alongside local medical schools/teaching hospitals..but I don't know that for certain), my VA didn't offer that. Fast forward to very recently, I left a job that had provided me access to health insurance and I had not been to the VA hospital for over a year but that ended. Now, I understand, my VA hospital has a Ketamine Pain Clinic; for which my psychiatrist apparently cannot order a referral, due to the VA formulary -- again, something I don't believe any human can decipher at this point. I could probably practice medicine at the VA...just tell me the symptom and I'm sure there's a book on a shelf that I can pull down and say, "Yep. Cut it off..." because of the deep bureaucracy/rubric-based medicine. That was a bit of a joke, I suppose. Unless, of course, you've been a VA patient... Anyway, thank you, gentlemen, for your time and for sharing your focused knowledge with us laypeople.

Doctors, I’m gonna give you the best advice of your career. When you see a new patient who depressed you should ask what happened to them in their childhood. They told me I was bipolar, I’m not bipolar I suffered severe emotional abuse and was scapegoated by my entire family. I have cptsd, all the symptoms mimic bipolar. Why aren’t you doctors trained in childhood emotional abuse and narcissistic parenting. You people are in the dark ages. Most addicts who have depression have been abused, wakey wakey doctors

that is always my problem when a bunch of well to do gents getting together and trying to justify if ketamine should be administered or not. well consider yourself lucky to have to ability to even ask the question. because for those suffering you can bet that they don't have as much of the luxury of comtemplating it. another situation of diplomacy casting it's shadow over real world problems trying to figure out if the data lines up meanwhile the house is burning down. please excuse me for my lack of sympathy here. ketamine is a well tolerated drug even at anesthetic doses which is 2mg/kg. most ketamine administrations for depression will start at subanesthetic doses of 0.5mg/kg which is laughable in comparison by toxicology. is it non-addictive in the traditional sense ( no withdrawl sypmtoms). it is merely a nervous system modulator to promote a more productive state of mind. its turns out that you are not entirely a product of your emotions but of a complex chemical orchestra that is occuring in your body. the ability to modulate that and promote functional states of mind is paramount and very powerful to the everyday working man in need. but of course let's all take our sweet undoudtebly privilidge time to gather round quaintly and endlessly comtemplate how to ideally slice to proverbal pie. wouldn't want to be too hasty about it either because what is the rush afterall right? i mean you all seem like well put together men. contributing members of society of course. are you candidates for ketamine treatment? I wouldn't think so. my point is to think in a different perpective and for who this treatment is actually for. god forbid you muster up some genuine article compassion for the patients. have you seen the options for depression these days? most people get off them anyways because of side effects. that is simply not a way to live. ignorance is bliss but it is also destructive. its time to crackdown and demand more holistic treatment options which promote actual health rather than masking depression with more side effects than that of which should ever be. oh and did I mention that ketamin is dirt cheap. mainternance doses for positive effects are once a month. instead of taking a subtoxic pill everyday for the rest of your life. hmm. I wonder what options seems better?

Mr Charlie, what would you say to someone who has been in therapy for the better part of 30 years, been on almost every antidepressant on the market, and still experiences a very limited life style and fairly frequent suicidal ideation. The SSRI’s cause weight gain and loss of orgasm at least in women. I don’t know about men because I’m not one. Is that something you’re willing to accept? Do you think a young person should accept it? When one is depressed, it really doesn’t help to make them fat and sexually impotent. The FDA didn’t have adequate studies or data when they approved the SSRI’s either. You are correct in that this should not be a first line treatment, at least not as this point. Depression kills. Ketamine, when properly administered, does not. Give us a break. The Covid vaccine didn’t have FDA approval either and look how many people were forced to get that.

The Texas guy has a "glass half empty," contrarian type personality . He enjoys shooting things down. The Yale guy's opinions are more consistent with the general view of ketamine in psychiatry, both in research and clinical practice. I know two psychiatrists who are either administering the treatment or referring people out for it. They both view it as a great positive breakthrough. The Texas guy's opinion that it is just activating the opioid system is not a mainstream idea. The Yale guy points out that studies have used Natrexone to block an opioid response and they still get the positive effects of ketamine.

Long boring story to write here, but after many treatments and therapies I’ve found a way to cope. But if this treatment has worked for so many people, over a long period of time without detrimental effects, then “for some” who have tried several treatments without much success, I believe the ketamine is worth trying. (But still, with much research into who would be administering it to you). Just my humble opinion.

I feel that the discussion is on data. What it lacks is real-world results. One is arguing the potential for opioids. The real-world answer to that is, "So what?". You need to understand that people with lifelong depression symptoms just want to feel better. If that comes from a potentially-addictive opiate, still I say to you, "So what?". I'm not sure it is quite understood the lengths some people would go through just to feel happy. Even for a day. We should shift from the failed 'war on drugs' mentality and just do what works. Obviously, we want the safety testing. We want the clinical trials. But in the end, we want to feel better. It's not all about brain chemicals. It's about mental self-awareness and awakening from states of misery. Psilocybin needs released from its decades-long imprisonment, for starters. For the people it can help, it helps tremendously.

I've been a patient who's received ketamine infusions, and I'm a psychotherapist as well. Infusions didn't work for me, sadly. And I've had 5 patients who've done ketamine treatment and the results were negligible. I know this really works for some people, I'm not trying to discredit that. I felt a need to include this because in my own research, I almost exclusively read about positive experiences. I truly wonder if the people in the minority are simply too depressed to share their experience.

I received Ketamine while I was in the hospital in my Anesthesia. It was a short-term miracle. I quit smoking after years. I felt joyful, just amazing. Then after 5 - 6 days, it hit hard. It makes it temporarily worse since you have the 'now' to compare to the 'bliss' that you know is out there. I searched for a clinic and have had 2 sessions and little result. I have stopped for now. I want to wait and look a little closer. The sessions are $550 each. It will pay to make sure you have the right fit and also, the price may go down.

And so many think because ketamine happened, now isn't. But didn't I mention? The ongoing ketamine is happening, right now! We are all co-authors of this dancing exuberance, where even our inabilities are having a roast. We are the authors of ourselves, co-authoring a gigantic Dostoevsky novel starring ketamine! This entire thing we're involved with, called the world, is an opportunity to exhibit how exciting ketamine can be. Ketamine is a matter of a miracle that is collected over time by moments flabbergasted to be in each others' presence.

Good evening, I agree with you. I believe that wholeheartedly until I was diagnosed with depression.
I’m 50 , wasn’t rich growing up . But through work & friends & just being grateful, I’ve overcame many struggles , loss of loved one a month before getting married. 26 years ago. Last time I cried. I’m crying every other day now.
A month after my eye surgery, I developed insomnia & palpitations. This went on for 2 months. A month after that crying spells anhedonia- Low energy, walked like a zombie. Spoke to psychologist councillor,
I’ve been told I have an adjustment disorder after my retina detachment.
I’m a high functioning father & husband, I’ve struggled for the last 6 months.
I first nasal spray today, I’m struggling with nausea, something I never experienced with the wellbrutin, Valdoxan & Brintellix
I never liked being high , enjoyed beers while watching a live soccer game.
So Ketamine treatment isn’t something fun for me.
Pray 🙏🏼 me . I’ve tried homeopathy ( sleep) , acupuncture ( don’t work) & hypnotherapy too. Nil success yet.
