Nice simple solution for something that could be overly complex! I wonder if you could apply something similar to hill charts? I don’t think you could show them in the global lineup, as they would be too small, but having some way to correlate a hill chart to time allotted would be helpful. Maybe hill charts could have an optional start and stop date. When set, their own lineup pill would appear below the chart. This way you could quickly see we are 80% done through the time allotted, but are still “figuring things out” and may need to adjust scope.
Would your recommend this for project managers? I feel like the dependencies are important with managing projects. Then again with projects things are always changing and we have to switch things around and it becomes chaotic which frustrates me.
this is great! But what happens if a todos in a project are not completed and the project's overall end date has passed - meaning members of my team are behind. What are best practices for this?
The Lineup is my default view now. I would love to somehow toggle on or off my own "Todo's" on this view. I suppose you could choose to see all todo's or just your own, or only your own with dates, etc. But then I would be able to see all projects and all todo's in one view.
Thanks Denise. The URL will stay the same for now. We might update it down the road, but even if we do, the old URLs will redirect so everything still works. -JF
In order to see projects in the Lineup, you need to set start and end dates for the project. You can do that when you start a new project or by adding dates after the fact through the ••• menu. There's a guide how to do it here: 3.basecamp-help.com/article/668-lineup#adding-start-end-dates. Hope that helps! -Kimberly
Thank you for sharing these new features and how they work :) Do you have an appetite for future work on communicating the progress made on x project through the birds-eye view?
Hi Paige! Lineup doesn't specifically offer filtering. If you wanted to remove a project from the Lineup view, you could simply remove the start and end dates on the project, but that would remove it from the Lineup for everyone on the project, not just your view. -Kimberly
When choosing who can see the lineup and picking "invite only" will the people who have access to the Basecamp I am creating a lineup for, see the lineup?
Hi Justin! Anyone who is added to a project will see that project in their lineup. If the project is invite-only, ONLY the people who have been invited to the project will see it listed in their lineup. If a project is all-access, only the people who have JOINED that project will see it in their lineup. Hope that helps! -Kimberly
Thanks, Jason! Is there any plan to evolve The Lineup into a Gantt Chart? If yes, when can we expect it? If not, what other solution are you considering?
No plans, but there are lots of tools that allow you to work with Gantt charts using your Basecamp data: basecamp.com/extras#reporting-charts-planning -JF
Not the right layout for tracking progress in-projects. Progress isn't linear (unlike time, which is linear). Progress is more like a hill. That's why we have Hill Charts inside projects: basecamp.com/features/hill-charts
Jason this is so nearly useful! So close it's painful to see! You refer to being able to 'what's happening' and 'where we are' but without some kind of %complete or even %tasks done, (toggling maybe to different project card colors to show the health of the project) this is really just a list of projects! Being able to change the end date also misses on the chance to capture projects falling behind. If you allow variable end dates why not also show and fix the original end date. Render on the card days behind etc. Thanks
Hi there! While you're able to move forward or backward in the lineup in six-week increments, it's not currently possible to zoom out to see a longer time period all at the same time. But we're always open to hearing how that feature request might help you! Send an email over to our team at support@basecamp.com and they can log a feature request for you! -Kimberly
Really enjoying these videos, Jason! Thanks for taking the time to put them together.
Thanks Aylon, glad you're enjoying then. More on the way. -JF
Is it possible to change the time scale from days to weeks or months for projects with longer time horizons?

I learn so much from your videos. Will the URL change to indicate version 4?
Thanks Denise. The URL will stay the same for now. We might update it down the road, but even if we do, the old URLs will redirect so everything still works. -JF
I am enjoying these - thanks the new changes have made me abandon moving to clickup
If I have nothing in Lineup, but there are many projects on Basecamp- is it my poor package, or should I turn smth on?

Thanks Elia. Hill Charts are the answer: basecamp.com/features/hill-charts
Good to meet you here Elia, was just watching the vid and saw you in the comments, greets from René!
Can you filter the lineup? Show certain projects that meet certain criteria?
Hi Paige! Lineup doesn't specifically offer filtering. If you wanted to remove a project from the Lineup view, you could simply remove the start and end dates on the project, but that would remove it from the Lineup for everyone on the project, not just your view. -Kimberly

Quick question Jason. These projects look like tasks. It seems that we’ve created tasks as complete projects. Is it so?
Hey there! Any plans to add the Lineup feature on a project basis to track to do tasks or cards?
