I had the same issue on an 80's Toyota. Ended up being an inertia drive issue in the speedo, should be an easy fix for an instrumentation specialist

I was raised to see a big Detroit V8 that burbles as the best sounding thing ever. This Bronco is not far removed from a tractor and it's awesome.

1:56 "This one has been slightly massaged in terms of making it a little more drivable" After that I proceeded to watch the rest of the video, and my mind kept wondering back to that statement at the realization of what this must've been like _before_ the upgrades, "vague" must barely scratch the surface lol. That 302 sounds absolutely legendary though, binaural audio does the trick _every_ time!

I own a 1977 Bronco done up almost the same way for 39 years.
You did a good job describing the experience. You are right that it takes a while to get used to driving them. With 4:11 gears it can be more usable in 3rd.
They are a blast to drive.

It looks right at home on some fall woodland backroads. Like I imagine theres wild broncos somewhere deep in the forest and at 3 AM you hear that V8 growl for a moment and then it's gone like a ghost.

I've had my 1970 Bronco for 30 years and mine has dual shocks in the from plus after market springs which help minimize body roll. Going down the freeway at 80 mph is not a problem and the best thing is on off road and the streets of San Francisco when you jump it, it flys evenly through the air so neither the nose or tail drop down.

This brings back memories. My dad had an 80's Bullnose Bronco (from right before they ruined the styling of them) and I loved going on rides in it as a kid.

It's so interesting to me how different engines sound, like post-'90s vs pre-'90s. There's like this dry airy rasp all older engines have; it's very neat to me, and I wonder why that's the case.

    • @MultiParasite

You should do a review on the Crown Victoria Police Interceptor. I own a 2011 SAP. These cars can fool you. They're actually decently fast cars and feel very luxurious on the road. Heck, if you're willing to come to NC, I will let you review mine.

My 65 mustang has a 3 speed and its the same gearing. The owner manual states to shift to 3rd at 30mph, sometimes I feel I'm driving at 700rpm lol. The power is there, I don't feel any lugging but I get your point. It feels very weird but apparently its normal.

Crazy story this is the car that almost killed my father, not once but twice when he was a kid. It's only because these things tip over so easily. They were great vehicles, just be careful with long turns and be gentle with the steering wheel. If you lower the vehicle half of those issues disappear.

    • @Porkycheun

I remember these when they were new. The driving experience was more civilized than this video leads you to believe. The Ranger model in particular was quiet with an acceptable ride. You could cruise at highway speed and it didn't feel like the top was about to blow off like it does on this test drive.
