    Brain fart: apologies, all - the lens should indeed work with RF focusing!

    I used that lens for backstage shots at a sports events this weekend (used it on a Leica MD262). It opened up some crazy opportunities.
    Nice video as always!

    So glad that more and more manufacturers are aproaching you for your opinion. Something tells me that such weird focal lengths can produce little marvels in a high building infested urban landscape like New York...

    For over a year I have been fully satisfied with my FE mount Voigtlander 10mm f/5.6. I have no desire to go wider. 🙂 These super wide lenses are also fun for capturing images of storms; however, it can be quite alarming if the storm turns on you. I remember one time I practically jumped out of my boots when a thunderclap sounded as if it was directly over my head. 😃

    Pretty interesting!!! I appreciate that they try to introduce “ different “ lenses like that

    I love this lens! I purchased it for my Sony A7R4. And it blows me away, the field of view allows me perspectives and compositions I was not able to do before. I like what Laowa is doing, they take risks with bringing innovations out but they do it successfully. Amazing! And who cared about manual focus??

    I have several Laowa lenses. I think this company makes incredible glass for a bargain. My 9mm 2.8 has changed my perspective dramatically. My 25mm 2.8 has unbelievable magnification. The Laowa 12mm 2.8 is the best Astro lens available at any price point.

    They are an innovative company. I have the 15mm F2 and have been pretty impressed with it.

    Do you know if the 11mm and 14mm will be released at the same time? I am so curious for the 14mm f/4 I was waiting for a compact affordable lens like this, I don't need 9mm or f/2 in wideangle but I want something compact with great image quality. So I'm hoping the 14mm can offer this.

    Very glad you reviewed this lens. If they made it for X mount it would be compelling to at least rent for me. I’m glad a manufacturer decided to release something refreshing like this. Thanks for your perspective!

    ordered before I saw your vid ;-) so looking forward to this. recently started exploring 360 and what it can do from an acquisition point of view. I'm hoping this too to be soo exciting shooting high res 4K/ +stabilising in post without the sacrificial cropping having to worry anyone, and being able to deliver 'wide' to square output formats like insta; or reframe into vertical without having to sacrifice. The opportunities are great for this lens from a creators perspective, something the iphones will have a hard time to achieve no matter what. Ultra wide on a big sensor is what's been really difficult to achieve and they've done it. love it. hope it delivers to the expectations

    Great video I too had a similar experience. I for one have a Fuji X-T3 and have been using a new off brand lens the 7-Artisan. Yes it gives me a feeling i had a long time ago. Its is very extremely well made, used manual focus and of all this is stop down metering! It's such a pleasure to use, like in my youth.I am using the 25mm f/1.8, but I'lll be using the 12mm f/2.8 once it arrives. Oh yes a but retro but they are so inexpensive I had to give it a try. They also have Lica M mounts.

    If they made a optical finder for it, I am sure there would be more than a few film people that would pick this lens up.

    • @TheSH1N1GAM1
      @TheSH1N1GAM1 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Were we told it would be 14mm on a crop sensor? That works out, doesn’t it? I got 13.5 when converted, close enough to call 14 for me.

    • @Markovratonjic
      @Markovratonjic 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      TheSH1N1GAM1 Thanks, i understood that you need 14mm on crop, not that if you put it on a crop sensor camera it will be 14mm.

    I was looking forward to this lens, but if they couldn't get it out before the pandemic I doubt they'd bother during. Crazy distorted wide angle shots are fun, but I don't like fisheye lenses and this would've been the only non-fisheye quite that wide that isn't built into a cell phone.

    What do I think? The Japanese have taken their eye off the ball and are about to get a shock. When I was young nobody trusted Japanese cameras; the view was that they just made cheap copies of German quality cameras. Somebody once floated the idea in the pages of Amateur Photographer that some Japanese lenses were even filled with water as an optical component. Well it was all nonsense and soon, in the 70s, we were all using Nikon and Olympus instead of Leica (i seem to always be awkward and decided against a Nikormat or the used Leica my father recommended and bought a gorgeous black Rolleiflex SL35 with Zeiss primes). Well the Japanese forget how they started and have been paying the Chinese to make their equipment for some time now. China now leads the world in technology especially in materials science. So we got these cheap prime lenses. Now we are getting the first AF lenses. I predict that within 10 years China will lead the photographic world. Honkong is photo mad and it has the biggest concentration of photo enthusiasts in the world. I expect to see the first cameras any day soon. They will be rubbish and cheap. But, i bet the third generation cameras will be world class. Be warned. Most high tech stuff in this world is sourced from china from iPhones to Nuclear Power Stations. The Chinese camera industry will soon be massive. By the way, all my early life I have had to zone focus as my cameras had a distance and DoF scale on the lens but no rangefinder. I cant say I got out of focus photos. In fact, in the 50s, my Kodak Brownie couldn't even be focused and, by definition, it was medium format. Have fun - winks ;-)

      Was that the Brownie that used HUGE 127 film?

    • @vicibox
      @vicibox 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@bobmorse5896 Yes it was and I have to say that looking at the surviving photos I took then they look amazingly sharp; all Ilford B&W my father's favourite film. I replaced the Brownie in 1964 with a Halina 35X 35mm camera, which to a 12yr old seemed the height of sophistication ;-)

    I am still thinking about this lens. Oh how I wish I was able to amble about the streets of NYC ... with a wide angle... this is a scary and historical moment that needs to be captured ( I know it is ... but I’d like my own shots ). I like wide angle lenses. I have a Sigma 14 f/1.8 .... some days ya just have to grab the Distortion slider in Lightroom.... constraint crop ON .... close your eyes and .... SLIIIIIIIIDE ... I know it sounds “Illogical” to distort a distortion... but what the heck, you aren’t creating if you don’t try. LL&P
