- Today we’re watching The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part! The first LEGO movie is hailed as one of the best animated movies of all time, so why is the second one often overlooked and forgotten? Though directed and written by largely the same crew, the story ends up tangled in a mess of time travel, dual realities, and meaningless plot twists. But can the LEGO humor and amazing animation save the movie? Let’s find out.

The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part - 2019
The citizens of Bricksburg face a dangerous new threat when LEGO DUPLO invaders from outer space start to wreck everything in their path. The battle to defeat the enemy and restore harmony to the LEGO universe takes Emmet, Lucy, Batman and the rest of their friends to faraway, unexplored worlds that test their courage and creativity.

Tbf, a point of the movie was Rex teaching Emmet to be a master breaker, so of course, he won't build as much.
Remember the Christmas commercial for this movie, we’re kind of showed the General Mayhem and Queen whateviwannbe as the main antagonists. And Emmet offered a pumpkin coffee to Lucy/Wyldstyle.
This ad is one of my stims now LMAO
I honestly have no clue how I didn’t realize Rex was voiced by Chris Pratt up until the reveal 💀
Neither do I 💀

"The old Ninjago cartoon" is still going dawg, it just got a reboot.
Yes, the fact that they're LEGO characters does not play into the story at all, it's pointless and is extremely distracting to some, but the animators push what they can do with literal LEGO characters with rectangular bodies and arms that are too short in action scenes to the fucking limit, it's downright impressive. And the lore does not need to go nearly as hard as it does.

@@marioboi323 ba-dum tsss
You’re actually right. There were numerous rewrites for this if I remember. They eventually just settled on one (I think it literally was their first draft), and just ran with it.
Apparently it also took them months to make a rig/system to make that “liquid” Lego character (forgot her name) to flow fluidly.

I feel like part of what made The LEGO Movie 2 obscure, was because of Into the SpiderVerse. That movie evolves on what the LEGO Movie 1 did, as it spread widely acclaim. So when the LEGO Movie 2 came out, it just felt like it was made in a different era, in an era where animated movies were slowly starting to make more stylized films.
The "honey where are my paaaa-[air raid siren]" at the end was one of the best pieces of film media ever created.
10:58 The entire time travel plot and rex being emmet still is happening only in the kids head
13:00 Same here, they are NOT acting on their own. The kid is imagining them acting on their own
Thank you! I don´t know how people are so confused about the time travel and Emmet fully moving around thing when this entire franchise is all in Finn´s imagination, Rex literally stated it in the movie himself, I feel like people keep looking too deep into it and forget that these movies are all just a metaphor for a child playing with his father´s ¨highly sophisticated interlocking brick system¨ in his basement.
Lego lore
Yeah. Finn literally says earlier in the movie that he's doing a time travel plot, and the way Rex moves around in the real world is how a kid would move a lego around. He hops around unevenly and waddles as that's how most kids and even adults do. I'm impressed the animators went that far into the detail of making him move.
@@gtd5626 Something else I find interesting about Emmet in the sequel is that during the scene where Rex is basically teaching him how to do a more angry version of Focus Punch, Emmet doesn´t admit he´s mad that his friends were kidnapped, rather he just says it as ¨not good¨ and ¨super not good¨, it´s like he doesn´t want to admit that he´s upset, or even want to allow himself to feel angry and just keep being his usual happy and positive self, most likely cause he fears hurting his friends.

The Lego Movie is certainly one of those Gen-Z movies that, I think a lot of people are fond of. Whereas this one just doesn’t feel right. I don’t feel like it was really made for me. Or, anyone for that matter.

Me and my younger brother saw this movie at the theater for 13th birthday. Honestly It was decently good. Not as great as first though, but it still should get some recognition.
The first one was made because of decades of LEGO fans. It’s a movie for both adults and children. It’s self aware, while taking itself seriously, and and has a satirical take on movies (chosen one/destiny stuff like that).
The second one was made… because the first one ended on a cliffhanger. That’s not the whole reason, but sequels that exist just to continue where a movie left off can feel flimsy. And the sequel has plot twists, almost solely for the sake of shock value.
I don’t mind there being a LEGO Cinema Verse (because the LEGO Movie/Batman Movie already made that a reality), but I don’t think The LEGO Movie 2 should’ve been The LEGO Movie 2.
Like it could’ve done what the LEGO Batman Movie did and focus on a separate character from the first movie. The LEGO Ninjago Movie did that too but uh… yeah there’s already an entire show with the same name.

I like the sequel! Sure, it’s not as great as the first LEGO movie but I still think it’s pretty good!
Oh yeah it’s not horrible by any means but it’s just not as good as the first or Batman one either
@@Toon_Lucario It's not a bad movie, but it's not a good one either due to the time traveling BS.
Only good thing is the message
I always thought the Rex time travel plot was like the kid regretting ever creating the original kind and build centric Emmet character because it eventually led to being forced to play with his sister, thus creating a new version of him that was the exact opposite, one that wanted to destroy rather than build and was more selfish. (plus the kid was basically projecting how he felt into the character, as a means to create a story in his head how he would get Rex and Emmet to destroy his sisters creation)
and similarly to how kids just make up shit on the spot whenever playing, the kid most likely just went "fuck it, time traveling evil Emmet"
I remember when the first Lego Movie came out, it was one of my favorite movies for like 4 years. Then the 2nd one came out and I didn’t find it that bad. Now that i rewatched the movie, it could have been better. I don’t find it horrible thou
While the second movie definitely feels derivative (hey guys, we made a callback to the first movie, remember when this funny thing happened in the first movie?), I REFUSE to accept that it can be better than Bionicle. The Lego movie sequel disappointed me when I was a kid, but the thing that STILL will continue to piss me off is how manipulative/gaslighting the queen is in order to get batman to marry her, the dubloxes shouldve stayed the villains, made rex an anti-hero and should be gotten rid the whole time travel and little sister plot points entirely, at least I still have find memories playing with the promotional McDonald toys for the movie ......
DAY 16 of my petition to request MWS to microwave the shrek franchise eventually once they get the time to do so (or maybe they can do the raggedy Anne musical that keeps on appearing on my for you page or the shockingly bad, worst ghibli movie ever made, earwig and the witch, that would be hilarious I think idk)
As a kid?! Stop making feel old!
But then how would all of that transfer to the real world. If the duplos are evil, then the sister is evil, but you also wanna get rid of the little sister. If Rex is the antihero, would that make Finn also the antihero?
@@gtd5626 tbh you have a point, maybe rex can NOT be finn himself, maybe he can be his real life friend who comes over to his house and helps to steal the legos back from his little sister. Maybe instead the queen could be a misunderstood villain (maybe the general mayhem could be an advisor to the queen) but instead of her having no ill intentions, maybe she could be presented as the naiive and young princess but also a snobby brat who eventually is convinced by wildfire and the group to end the war and return/rebuild their home but then emmet and rex try to do that themselves, maybe rex goes too far and destroys the dublo planet or awakens a lego monster that can represent ar-MOM-geddon but rex gets redeemed by emmet and they both help along with the wildfire, batman, the queen etc. to rebuild both of the worlds, idk really, I'm just brainstorming some random stuff (also NO wedding between batman and the queen, legit too manipulative in the movie for me, somehow I'm still displeased about it till this day lol)

It’s strange to see in this movie are trends that the big kids fall for during a certain period of their growth: watching time travel movies. Don’t get me wrong, but I fell for the trend when I was 12 years old watching ‘Back to the Future’. It makes you feel like you wanna go back in time and undo all the HORRIBLE THINGS that happened in your life. It was a rough phase, but thank God I’m past it. If you rediscover this kind of trend in this film, or any other time travel film ever, warn your children that time travel isn’t actually real. Thanks for sharing!
As a person who recently rewatched the Lego movie, I wasn’t bored during the entire movie. But the second I started watching the second LEGO movie, I kid you not, I fell asleep.

This one had Sibling Shenanigans, Ninjago had Jackie Chan telling a story with his Cat inserted into it, Batman was just Batman, and the First One was just an Infomercial on why you should Buy Lego and not Glue them.

Hot take: not every lego movie and tv show has to have the story take place inside a kids imagination and the characters be actual lego toys to be good for example: lego ninjago, it would not only be reptetive but that premise would ruin the show

It's funny that the guys quoted "Toy Story" a bunch of times right around when the LEGO's got put into the bin, because that's literally the point in the movie that the rules change from, "this is all happening in a kid's head," to "the toy's can come to life and interact with human's."
Yes, I know they technically don't interact, but how the hell can the kid hear that the LEGO's were singing unless this was following Toy Story logic? They literally changed their entire set of rules in the last ten minutes of the movie! How? How?! HOOOOOO-
Elementals is actually kinda alright, surprisingly heartfelt story.
I feel like the marketing did it kinda dirty.
On some of the lego instructions it specifically states that you should not have lego outside
By far the worst thing about this movie is that Chris Pratt posted a video of himself playing around with all the Lego minifigures of characters he’s voiced/played to promote the movie, and didn’t do it again with Lego Mario to promote the Mario movie.
When I was just a bit younger and my mindset was like 7 years old, I really appreciated this movie and really didn't think the plot twists were bad nor that it was slow. Few years later, I realize it's not as I remember. Really shows how you gotta see this movie through the eyes of a kid.

Maybe I’m misinterpreting things, but it seems like when the dad started letting the son build freely with the legos, he was really good at it and made a lot of cool, interesting, well constructed things. Then the dad decided to let the little sister who was Duplo age play too, and she destroyed everything the brother built, and now, when they’re a little older, she’s stealing his legos, building mostly nothing with them, dumping glitter on the minifigs, and just tossing them in bins when she gets bored. I feel like the “sis-star system” genuinely is the bad guy here.
Damn. Well said, what a horrific message.
im sorry i didnt mean to destroy my brothers lego chi monke mecha for the funni blue straws that happened to be EXACTLY in the middle of the torso, requiring me to dismantle the pretty big build just so i could not use the parts in my awesome mismatched sled. i... i got better :)
Yo you just stated what I have been thinking since this movie came out
I wouldn't say that. Bianca is only the duplo age and she's not intentionally destroying stuff. She was like 3 or 4 and kids at that age are hard to play with as they touch everything and do things they shouldn't ve doing. And even then part of the movie is from Finns perspective so Bianca may not even be destroying everything, UT to him she is. As Bianca got older she tried to play again, but Finn doesn't trust her and thinks that she's "evil" which transfers over to his lego characters. Her taking Finns toys was kinda bad ngl there. She had good intentions with it though. She just wanted to play with her big brother.

When I was a kid I would sometimes take my plastic cowboys to the lawn and hose a specific part of the ground on the edge of the lawn to give the appearance of a small waterway for the cowboys in the wagon to sit next to.
I thought the Lego movie was too self aware for you.
(It was somewhere in the mega mind video, if I’m correct)
im pretty sure they meant the first movie, and yes it was mentioned in the megamind video
A problem I have with this movie is that the soundtrack (besides the songs) is really forgettable. It doesn’t have the same fun energy from the first movie. The only piece of the soundtrack I really remember from this movie is the “Apocalypseburg” theme, and that’s it.
3:48 I have that Lego set! It's one of my favorites. I also have all of the Lego movie 2 sets
I love how all of you are talking about how nobody remembers the Lego movie 2 meanwhile I can recite this movie (and all the other ones) by heart.
*"Cover your butts"*
"Cover the *what?"*
「WHAM」
Me but with Lego Batman, the greatest Batman (unironically to me)
Same!
I'm surprised you didn't mention Balthazar, Or as the movie refers to him,
*Attractive* *Non-threatening* *Teen Vampire*
Truly The Character of the 2nd movie.
6:34 I know what you should cover next. Best movie ever. (Seriously, I am not joking)
One thing I really disliked about LM2 was the fact it ran directly against the plot of the first film; President Business was literally proven correct about how mixing would lead to disaster.
I wouldn't say that. The siblings eventually get along and build syspocalypstar.
I actually love the second one 😭
“ Disney Korn” I love how Brendan did the Korn beat box 😂😂
Ok, hear me out:
Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie
0:01 This is a lead up to the lego batman movie
Y'all should watch Elemental, It's a surprisingly great movie In my opinion. Disney really did fucked up big time of the marketing for It though.
Also, the entire population of South Korea watched Elemental, that movie was like crack for them lol.
I think lego roughly translate to dainish as "play well" and I think in polish it's similar to a word that means "to build"
Jude literally said “imma do the Ohio howl real quick” boy returned to monkee
I remember when this movie came out, I was 9 around the time and I was so damn obsessed with this movie for literally no reason whatsoever. I memorized the entire movie, watched it multiple times a day, and basically worshipped it like it was a religion for some reason. Before it came out and I saw the trailers, I was counting down the days until it released. I came up with potential plots for a third film, an entire multiverse if you will. It’s honestly kinda nostalgic. Fast forward to 2023, and… holy sh¡t, this movie is mid 😭💀
(i somewhat ironically enjoy it, but nah it’s was NOT that good 💀)
The small Korn bit made me laugh harder than it should've.
I wonder about the alternate universe where this movie actually did well. I would have happened then? A LEGO Batman movie 2?
If only....
You... Do know they are making that, right?
@@SodorTimesToday Didn’t the rights to the LEGO Movies get sold to Universal?
@@brenlc1412 you know what, I completely forgot about that.
One movie that I think you got it should watch and that really isn't talked about much. As much as the other Lego movies is the adventures of clutch powers
12:51 he bought another set 😂
I can’t shake the feeling that this movie was rushed and the ending of the 1st one was just a quick ending gag but since the fans wanted a second one they made it but barely made the bar that the other one set (maybe didn’t even make the bar) so if this came out like a year after this was supposed to come out then this could have been better than the first one
13:34 WHERES MY SUPERSUIT!?
What!!??!????
13:37 I lost it here
@@Sandra_Run *WHERE IS MY SUPER SUIT!!!!?????*
This movie is so much worse than I remember. Especially the obnoxious plot twist of what the "Armamageddon" means, which is just one of the most obnoxious plot twists I've ever seen. And they think that ADMITTING it's a stupid plot twist makes it okay.
Armamagedon should’ve been an unavoidable event
8:01 They ripped off cinnamon toast crunch HA!
You REALLY need to get these guys to watch Lego Batman.
Only movie I can think of that didn’t have Bruce Willis in an air duct, was pulp fiction 7:14
9:32
I just want to point out:
In this shot Emmet is in the air and the ground is shattered under him.
*And in the next shot he's on the ground that is intact.*
I liked the second one just as much as the first just because it was a musical
cant wait for the you won’t aren’t like me when I don’t coffee (morning) movie
11:01 I think his backstory is just a backstory the kid made up for a different figure that isn’t supposed to be emmet but you know he’s using his imagination and stuff
