@@yeli8662 I'm American & obviously I don't speak for or represent them all, but it just grinds my gears when people go to a different country & don't even have the decency to learn some basics.
Can't tell you the times I've been out of the states & heard my fellow country people yelling or speaking slowly in English as IF that would make them understood
So while it SHOULD be common sense laced with common courtesy - it demonstrates the class of respect for the country you're visiting
& I've butchered PLENTY of other languages but at least I tried

You town is absolutely beautiful! I am going to google it to view some daylight pictures and history videos! Happy Christmas from Burien Washington, USA, our town was named after Gottlieb Burian, (name later misspelled when put on town documents) a German immigrant who settled on a Lake later named Lake Burien, he helped create the old Burien town and the infrastructure to get goods to and from ports in nearby Seattle.

@@topherjoe1 Thanks for your lovely message!
It really is a beautiful town, even more when you get to see it through the eyes of someone who has never been here! I live here so I'm used to it in a way, such a shame because we lose the eye for the beautiful things right in front of us!
Besides buildings and history it's the people who make this town amazing. Volunteers everywhere, helping children, elderly, fair trade, refugees, so many other causes. Lots of international students bringing fresh air. Lots of traditional Karneval clubs, with dance competitions and the festivities in february (kinda Mardi Gras vibes). Open dance festivals in the historic town, concerts and flea markets there.
History is a big part, but will fade without the people of the present moment :)

I think this video is inspiring me to propose to our city council we establish a German Christmas Market in honor of the name sake of our city! We are in no way as old as this city (we are just a speck in our creators eye age wise compared to them) but nonetheless, it would be wonderful to honor our 1884 community creator and his heritage. Thank You!

Thank you for sharing it with us.

I live in Germany and one of my favorite Christmas markets is in Esslingen. It's a large medieval Christmas market, with crafts that date back centuries, and their Flammkuchen (like what you ate) is made in a traditional wood burning oven. There's a hand pumped small wood ferris wheel for children. I got an old witch's broom there, made the traditional way with sticks. As for the garlic grater, you can find them made of clear glass in numerous antique stores here in Germany. I have one from the 1800s. But you can also use the grater for ginger and various other things. There's a tiny village Christmas market by our village, and they were only open one weekend this month - they actually had steamed mussels and oysters! I never saw that at any other Christmas market. Stephanie's German pronunciation is pretty good.

An absolute joy to be guided through the Aachener Christmas market. If I visited in person I’d be like a broken record, having memorized only one line in German with “Ich hätte gerne diese Weihnachtskugel aus Glas“ which translated is more or less “I’ll have this glass Christmas ornament please.” I can never resist a beautifully done glass ornament. I think I’d end up with a couple of boxloads to carry home. PS: Stephanie, keep a pair of warm gloves in your car and in a suitcase or overnight bag you normally travel with to avoid future frozen digits and winter handshakes.

We don’t have Christmas markets like that here, I’m so jealous every time someone does a video of one. Beautiful crafts, gifts, foods and drink. I’m reduced to online shopping mostly this year because I stupidly stood on a chair to reach something, fell and tore my bicep muscle partially off the bone. It hurts😳still after a month. Helpfully my daughter has done some shopping for me but that means I don’t get to go see everything .
At least I didn’t break a bone or hip so I must be positive. Thank you so much for taking us along, I can see vicariously through your videos. Wishing you all a wonderful Christmas and New Years at the chateau. ☃️🎄☃️🙋🏼‍♀️🥰

One lucky lady you are ..I lived in Düsseldorf Benrath ten years and enjoyed visiting Christmas markets ..Aachen is one of the best …Also you would love Schloss Moyland and Schloss Dick …The best Christmas present any one could give me is a trip to the German Christmas markets . The Reibekuchen is Devine and the Ratskeller restaurant in Gothic Aachen Rathaus (city hall), is so nice for lunch And sit in the window looking out at the market ….This video is a elixir of love for me … vielen Dank

Fun video, here in Chicago the city started a Christ Krindle Market to capture some of that great German heritage. Loved Philip's (he's such a great guy) showing us around and Stephanie's sampling!
Are we going to see Stephanie rock that beautiful green dress at a Christmas party this year??
