i swear the antenna on E3 chief makes him look like a RC soldier
I didn't think of that until you mentioned it, but I kinda agree now
I mean, I can see where it's coming from. The marines have a lot of Starship Troopers inspiration and given that that film has quite a good bit of gear that looked contemporary when it came out, Chiefs antenna could be like a radio-backpack
@danielllitpek2014 yes compare E3 Master chief with Metal Arms. Video game characters with radio backpack. Doesn't fit the chief
"She said that to me once, about being a machine"
@@AppleSauce612 only good halo game 343 made was a collection of bungie games. Curious 🧐
We almost ended up with a RVB character for Chief
Caboose couldn't figure out how to turn off the voice modulator in his helmet
@@frankficcle7081 I like the fact that it translates to Lord

Now imagine him saying "sir, finishing this fight" in that robotic monotone voice
Microsoft John: I need a weapon.
I met Steve Downes in real life and got him to sign this onto my sealed limited edition copy of Halo 2!
God just imagine if this was the chief we got
The game probably wouldn’t have had the same reception and who knows if the series would’ve gone on.
Bro sounds like Caboose but intelligent
What is funny is the Japanese Version of CE still has Chief with a Robotic Voice and can still be used in MCC.
bro blud sounded more like an suit ai than a super soldier lol
For real though! Hell I wouldn’t have tried to learn how to do chief’s voice if it wasn’t for Steve Downes cuz that is what Made Chief so iconic. If he would of had this voice I would of not played halo at all and would of stayed away from the game like the plague.
That “sir, finishing this fight” line is so epic!! 🔥💯💯
*Reads title*
*clicks short*
*Hears footed's voice*
Steve Downes was a great choice that dude loves being Master Chief and he sounds epic.
Can I just say I'm so happy they didn't go the Terminator route for his voice, because GODDAMN, THE MASTER CHIEF WE GOT *SOUNDS LIKE A GOD DESCENDED FROM THE HEAVENS ITSELF.*
And also, fun fact, Steve Downes almost didn't make it for the role of Master Chief in HALO 4, they had planned to give it to someone else, but after auditioning for the type of turn they wanted to take for his character, he was back in board. Crazy that we almost lost him!
There's a reference to this that says In One of the descriptions when you pause The Game. It says something about master chief being A cyborg
Yep you're right about that, it's; "Stage a one-cyborg assault on a Covenant ship and bring back the Captain" 👍
yeah, Keyes (the mission in halo ce) calls chief a cyborg, and the player bipeds are still called "cyborg" internally
I always wrote that off as Well, he's alive on the inside with a real human brain (and body) and super mechanical and robotic on the outside, fine, he's a cyborg, whatever.
Didn't know that was just an artifact of a changed plan.
And the chapter title after meeting Keyes on PoA is "AI constructs and cyborgs first."
Oh man lol DEFINITELY dodged a bullet there. Steve is f'n fantastic as the Chief!
Steve Downes is the entire reason this character gave me chills whenever he spoke. Halo would have been pretty forgettable without him
Sir.. curity camera
Fuckin caboose thinking about what happened during CE here
If I recall right, it was Microsoft who made Bungie change that
Oh right, that probably makes more sense then! I'm so glad Bungie went with Microsoft instead of Apple lmao 😅
The head nodding was the worst honestly lol 🤣
Chief is still technically a cyborg
I get what you mean, but Chief isn't part machine. That was the original intention, then they went hard into the whole Spartan idea which I much prefer. He's still a powerful human in a suit of armour but still very much human.
His armor is machine, and it's definitely *part* of his identity. Cyborg isn't that far away
The spartans in Halo, Chief included, are absolutely cyborgs. They have a neural link in their heads that interfaces with the chip slot on the back of the helmet. That's how Cortana gets in his head.
@FootedGhost Correct me if I'm wrong But doesn't he have like neural tech in his brain, and aren't his bones made of titanium or something? I refused to believe all his enhancements are just some super soldiers serum, If I remember correctly since the dawn of halo, he's always been cyberneticly and biotechnologically enhanced
@@jerrbear5958 He's had plenty of augmentations that made him stronger, and those augmentations gave him higher bone density as well as plenty of other things. I'm just saying he isn't a cyborg. I don't think a neural link or chip slot automatically makes them cyborg, but I could be wrong!
"master chief, you mind telling me what you are doing in that river?"
"Sir, shooting these unarmed civ-"
My favorite chief line
“Boo”
I remember that! The head bobbing like rvb is so funny! 😅😂 it makes sense for a proof of concept, but so glad we got steve downs! Iconic badass voice!
I know Steve Downes is getting older, so I hope with 343 potentially getting their act together under Pierre that they're able to find a good balance between Steve getting to play Master Chief as much as he wants and giving Master Chief a satisfying conclusion as a character.
I'm not 100% opposed to someone else playing Master Chief when Steve eventually passes, but I think it would be better for Master Chief to have a good conclusion and a new character to take up the torch.
I’d rather they just have a new character. It just wouldn’t be master chief without Steve downes. But in order to that, they should build up a side character while chief is still around. So that once chief is gone, the new main character is somewhat developed, and it doesn’t feel like they just pulled him out of their ass.
That master chief escaped from the red vs blue dimension being so goofy 💀
"They planed to make Chief a cyborg."
Well, yeah. They did. That's literally the only way he can safely wear his suit.
“I need a weapon”
The E3 voice isn’t bad
But oh my god Steve Downes is soooooooooo good
Do you think Halo still would've been the iconic series it is if they'd kept that voice? I don't think I would've been as mind blown playing a robot protagonist like that. The concept we know was a smart change and nice middle-ground. Chiefs humanity really adds to the stakes, you're a warrior of the highest kind, yet you feel so small and futile.
It’s not terrible, but it’s so generic sounding, master chief would not be considered as much of an iconic character as he is.
Red vs blue vibes lol
If his voice had been like that, the game would have flopped. Hard to believe the only thing standing between greatness and failure was one lone man’s iconic voice.
Yeah Chief’s balls dropped after that 2000 demo
He kinda sounds like a robotic version of JFK to me
The Master Chief has gone Rampant!
Dude, Steve actually saved this character. Absolute legend
That's why his health is cyborg_health and shield are cyborg_shields
I remember if you had the limited edition case it came with a 2nd CD with funny shorts and behind the scenes and this was also a part of it.
Some of the grunts voice lines in CE call Chief A Cyborg
And looked how Paramount massacred our boy 😭😭
I love Steve Downes as Chief, but the original voice is also kinda cool I don’t think it’s that bad, I think if it what ever used, it would be interesting, but that’s just my personal preference, like, Master Chief sounding like that even other Halo games even after Combat Evolved, that could be a good Halo What If.
"Bad cyborg!!" -random Grunt
Me speaking in the fan 😂
Reminds me of those very old videos of a master chief figurine playing halo : lelelelelelelelelelelelel
Steve downes will forever be master chief in my eyes
Not to mention him spazzing his head around like he's a cameo in RVB
Bro’s even doin the machinima head bobble
ngl i was half expecting a lopez joke after you mentioned cyborgs
"Sir, curity camera"
Sir
Finishing this Big Mac
So that’s why chief was called “cyborg” in CE’s files. That makes a lot more sense now
Sir, curity camera
"The drop zone is clear. I repeat the drop zone is clear.
That voice was never planned to be the final, it was a place holder. Before Steve came along, Jeff Steitzer was actually originally cast for Master Chief. Then they asked if he wanted to do the multiplayer announcer, and now both are legendary
So basically Caboose from Red V Blue when he’s got that alternate personality and is in love with Sheilla
This explains why in Keyes the objective is “stage a one cyborg attack”
His voice really was beep boop
Sir, finishing this Big Mac
If you watch videos of Steve Downes doing his Master Chief voice, he practically eats the mic to fit all that bass in there. Now I just imagine the Chief doing the same inside his helmet every time he speaks. 😅
I think there’s still a grunt voiceline that says “bad cyborg” or something, I could’ve sworn I heard it yesterday
In the original trailer he sounded like a Star Fox 64 character.
Bro almost sounded like pink sheep💀
So that’s why the grunts still have dialogue referring to master chief being a cyborg. How interesting
he is a cyborg tho
And he’s not nodding as he speaks.
Chief's original voice sounds like someone talking into a fan.
I read the original Halo CE manual that came with the game recently. It actually says that Masterchief is a cyborg in it.
That had to be a placeholder 😂
I'm fairly sure the guy who voiced him in the E3 trailer ended up being Mister Chief in Halo Infinitem
It’s like if you took the soul out of Nolan north and left just the vocal cords
Steve Downes is a 🐐🐐🐐. Bless this man for making my childhood.
On a side note though, I wonder if the OG armor from the trailer will show up in Infinite?
The NPCs and enemies still occasionally refer to him as a cyborg in Halo CE. Seems that Bungie still hadn't fully fleshed out what a Spartan was yet, but realized the robo voice was a bad call.
I remember when I was a kid seeing that demo for the first time lol
The first voice sounds like a Red vs Blue joke
I want to have a mod of what CE was supposed to be, and have this voice. Just as an entertaining mod
I bet this was the first thing that Marty O'Donnell did when he walked in the office. He probably just looked at them and said "guys, this is terrible." 😂
Sounds like the sudden strike 4 announcer 💀
fun fact: in the OG CE game manual some parts refer to Spartans as cyborgs...
I always imagine, if Chief ever did remove his helmet, it’d be Steve Downes under the helmet. He is the Master Chief.
I think in the original release, the booklet or back cover still refers to him as “a cyborg”
Steve is unreplaceable no matter what/what a legend 🗿
That was a placeholder.... Lol 😂
Lol I remember that trailer. I was just stoked for more regardless of voice
*Somewhere in a different timeline:* S I R. . . F I N I S H I N G T H I S F I G H T . . .
The Master Chief is still a cyborg, but with the voice of a badass gunslinger.
One of the loading screen texts in CE says “Stage a one-cyborg assault” (Keyes)
he sounds pretty cyborg as is 😂
Steve Downes said in an interview that he didn't realize how popular halo was until he was at a friend's house one day whose son was playing halo. He was like "oh yeah I was the guy. I was the main guy. The master chief" not thinking much of it. Next thing he knew, word had spread and there was a line of people at the front door wanting his autograph.
Halo would not be as big as it is today had they used the original cyborg voice.
This has that Darth Vader voice situation kinda vibe
I think they did that because of Marathon, cuz in marathon you play as a Mjolnir Recon Battleroid #54 who’s a cyborg and Marathon and Halo have so many similarities it wouldn’t surprise me if prerelease Halo was just a Marathon game plus in the showcase he says “Recon reporting”
Looks like a machinima with the headbob
I remember that trailer, loved it at that time
If you look back at the manuals too, even in the Gearbox PC port it says that the Spartan II's are cyborg super soldiers. It also says that Chief is that last Spartan II. (I just pulled out my old manual to check too)
They also called them "SPARTAN-II" Which implies that Spartan was just a codename or maybe even an acronym.
Gotta love that Halo lore was inconsistent even between the first game, novels, and manual. XD
His original voice sounds like he's from red vs blue
I wonder if Bungie wanted to make their own Robocop like character
I can't imagine the Master Chief without Steve Downes and his beautiful voice. So glad Bungie went with him!
Facts. Aye, where did ye get that Chief emoji?
lol robocop Chief or master c3po 😂
actually there are halo series, and halo forward unto dawn that have differente voice
Yeahhh share where u got the MC emoji por favor 🙂🙂
Imagine when they finally making a live action film or series and don't use Steve Downes voice and remove the Chiefs helmet every 4 minutes. That would be a sad day for halo fans.
