And don’t overlook the phenomenal 10:39 work that Charlie does on the cymbals in this song!!! The sax and cymbal unison in this riff are sublime!!! It is so unappreciated by the broad range of critics who have ever given us their “expert opinions” on the artistic value that this song has offered to us all. I am not some Juilliard educated music person (snob), but can easily pick up on the brilliance in the musical riff later stance when the sax and cymbal playing becomes one piece of melody that just takes over and drives this masterpiece into the final stanzas of this gem of a song that has never been given its due as being one of the great Rock and Roll songs ever. I will always refrain from saying “greatest” ever because music is art and the consumer of this art has the right to decide for themselves what they themself consider is the “greatest”. So on these social media platforms, it cannot possibly be defined as what group or artist is greatest or better than any other…. why??? Because we all have the right to decide what we ourselves deem worthy of being considered best, better, and/or greatest. Music cannot be quantified by any single data point or scale. We refer to album sales as a source for decision making any declaration of who is better or best. But that is not a correct scale for making that distinction. The folks who are using this information are doing so because it makes sense to boost their argument for the music they prefer.

"Can't You Hear Me Knocking" is on the Rolling Stones 1971 album "Sticky Fingers". The track is over seven minutes long. The main song lasts for under 3 minutes & wasn't supposed to include the extended jam session. But the entire track was recorded in one take with the jam session being included by accident.

I think Let It Bleed is their best album, personally, but they have so so many great albums and so so many great songs! My suggestions: The song, Let It Bleed, Jigsaw Puzzle, Stray Cat Blues (their nastiest, and I mean nasty!), Street Fighting Man, Rocks Off (yes, that's what it's about), Moonlight Mile (elegant ballad), Soul Survivor, Live With Me, Monkey Man, Midnight Rambler, You Can't Always Get What You Want. That can get you started!

Sweet! Filthy! Heh. Just listen to Charlie Watts carry that shuffle! "Can't You Hear Me Knocking" is one of the bangers from their Sticky Fingers album, easily one of the best rock and roll albums ever made -- "Brown Sugar", "Wild Horses", "Can't You Hear Me Knocking", "Dead Flowers" and much more. "Can't You Hear Me Knocking" finds the Stones taking on the way old school lyrical riff visited by their influences, notably "Keep Knocking (But You Can't Come In)" by Bob Wills and His Texas Playboys in 1938, "Keep A-Knockin'" by Louis Jordan in 1939, "I Hear You Knocking" by Smiley Lewis in 1955, and "Keep A-Knockin'" by Little Richard in 1957. Dave Edmunds took "I Hear You Knocking" to the top ten in 1970. There was a lot of knockin' going on back then, even when the van was rocking... 😀

“Midnight Rambler”, the studio version should be your first listen for this song. This is off their Let It Bleed Album. It has to be their most theatrical and sinister song in a long line of down and dirty. I would put the Let It Bleed album at number one BUT Sticky Fingers is right there with it. The jam in the second half is rather Latin-inflected, probably influenced by Santana. Their most creative album was Satanic Majesties Request IMO. Sort of a concept album, the Stones counterpoint to Sgt. Pepper. 2000 Light Years From Home stands out. Street Fighting Man is their best tune. An amazing song. I'm not a Stones fan but give credit where it's due. Too much of their music and their presentation incorporates satanic crap, SMR, Dancing With Mr D, Goats Head Soup, cetra, cetra. We get it Jagger, you think Satan is cool
