I like the Mathias albums, pre LAFS a lot. I enjoy Uli’s playing a lot more but think their song writing got a lot stronger after Uli. What I love about the two era’s is I feel I’m getting two awesome bands for the price of one.

I do admit that I am a little worried about their next studio album. It will be Accept's first studio album without Peter Baltes ever. According to Wolf Hoffman from past interviews , Peter Baltes had a major part in the songwriting process about 50% and Wolf Hoffman the other 50%. Now looks like Wolf Hoffman will be doing all songwriting for the music, unless he lets other members contribute.

The original Scorpions band that recorded Lonesome Crow album broke up soon after that album and young Michael Schencker joined UFO.
With the band no more two of the ex Scorpions aproached Uli Jon Roth to join them in a new lineup but he refused and continued with his band Dawn Road.
So singer Klaus Meine and guitarist Rudolf Schencker joined Dawn Road alongside lead guitarist Uli Jon Roth. bassist Francis Buchholtz , drummer Jürgen Rosenthal and Keyboardist Achim Kirschning . However after Dawn Road recorded their debut album they decided to change their name to Scorpions, and the rest is rock history.

I had never heard Scorpions. Just one song. Sails. A friend played it for me. That lead guitar!!! Bought the 4 Roth studio records the same day in 1980. Cut outs! Remember those? Like $3 a pop! Cherry new records still in the cellophane with a little chunk cut out each of the covers. What a wonderful way to be introduced to this band. I might have even got Tokyo Tapes that day too. Don't remember. The hunt for Crow was on! Somehow didn't hear it for years. I used to stand in the stores for hours going through the cut outs. CD's didn't exist yet. I ended up with like 800 albums after years of it.

He had Rarebell record the bass drum, then the snare, then the cymbals, and so on.. At least, that's what they said in an interview in 1990 and that was one of the reasons why they stopped working with him and they went with Keith Olsen for Crazy World.

So much great stuff from the debut to Blackout, but the Uli era...KILLER!
They also did some of my favorite power ballads, along with Priest and UFO.
Also, the dog on the cover Animal Magnetism (doberman?) is what made Pete's dog bark. Hadto'vebeen.
    10/10.

You might have done one already on these. I think you did a Ranking the studio albums video on Traffic, but I don't know about a top ten song video. Anyway, I enjoy watching your videos, even if you do ignore my comments....lol (Just kidding). Well, I hope you're staying safe from the Coronavirus, and keep up the good work.

I'm good up through 'Savage Amusement.' I first heard Scorpions when 'No One Like You' was getting lots of airplay on FM radio. It got stuck in my head, and I never forgot it. Then, of course came 'Rock You Like a Hurricane, but 'Savage Amusement' was the first Scorps album that I had the money to buy new. Before that, I listened to the radio A LOT and recorded the songs that I liked off of that. The songs were always stuck with the DJ talking all over the intros! They almost became an expected part of the songs for me!
    Here's my list:
    Top 10 Scorpions:
    01. In Trance

So I was in high school when Love at First Sting came out. My first taste of the Scorpions, which I loved!! Sometime after that, I found Virgin Killer on cassette I believe in a bargain bin. Which lead me all the great Uli stuff. One of the great things about TH-cam is I always thought Uli was soooo underrated, and come to find out, there are a lot of people who love him. (though I still think he's way underrated). I loved the fact he recently revisited those years and put out a couple albums of it!!!!!

    Pete,
You and I are the same age and I've discovered over the years of watching S.O.T., we agree on about 85% of everything (music, monster movies, etc.).
I totally agree with you that Scorpions' best music is between 1972 and 1984; however, since Scorpions are my favorite all-time band, I have to defend their later catalog to some extent.
First, my favorite album order would be:
    1. Blackout (this album hit me like a ton of bricks in 1982 and still does)
    2. Lovedrive (probably their best songwriting...and Michael Schenker as a guest/member)
    3. Virgin Killer (Uli's best playing)
    4. Intrance (this was the first album where Scorpions discovered their style)
    5. Taken By Force (Sails of Charon, Your Light and We'll Burn the Sky...nuff said)
    6. Animal Magnetism (great writing, Matthias' guitar sound not quite as developed as it would become)
    7. Fly to the Rainbow (Drifting Sun and Speedy's Coming are phenomenal)
    8. Love At First Sting (Scorpions classic but a bit overrated...though some great deep cuts such as I'm Leaving You and Coming Home)
....Unlike you my friend (and with great respect),...I still find much joy in their later catalog. Here's the rest of my list plus a few suggested songs that you may want to give a chance/second chance....
    9. Unbreakable (great "comeback" album after some softer orchestral stuff...New Generation, Love 'Em or Leave 'Em, Blood Too Hot and Deep & Dark are all very strong..if this 13 song album were cut down to 9 or 10, this would be a classic)
    10. Pure Instinct (underrated IMO...But the Best For You, Soul Behind the Face and Oh Girl are true Scorpions' gems)
    11. Face the Heat (strong but some tracks are a bit dated....gotta love Alien Nation, No Pain No Gain, and Ship of Fools....Woman has a classic Scorps groove-rock feel plus some of Klaus' best vocals ever)
    12. Savage Amusement (a few great tracks but a bit over-produced...worth it for Every Minute Every Day and Love On The Run...great Matthias' solo)
    13. Crazy World (again, cut this down to 8 or 9 songs and its a much stronger album...Money and Fame is a hidden gem)
    14. Return to Forever - (probably their last studio album....like VH's last album, contains bits of previously unfinished older material...Rock My Car and Hard Rockin' the Place are awesome)
    15. Sting In The Tail (a couple decent songs but mostly written or co-written with outside writers)
    16. Come Black (mostly re-worked versions of some older songs but about half the album are covers done with Scorpions' special flair...Tainted Love and All Day and All of the Night are excellent)
    17. Eye To Eye (well-produced but a bit out of character for Scorps....A Moment In A Million Years is a truly moving ballad; 10 Light Years Away is cool ,too and con-written with Mick Jones of Foreigner)
    18. Moment of Glory (interesting for sure as Scorpions meet the Berlin Philharmonic; the title track is not bad nor is the instrumental, Deadly Sting Suite)
    19. Humanity (the title track is great but, again, most songs were written or co-written by the producers)
There you have it! Because of their unique style, I think Scorps' catalog, as a whole, is superior to most other long-lived bands. Top to bottom, I'd put this catalog up against any other bands' entire catalog. I think the only bands that even come close, given the length and quality of their careers, would be UFO, Uriah Heep, Golden Earring and ZZ Top!

@@pvdguitars2951 Yes, Philippe, I played the hell out of Narita, just so strong from top to bottom, especially 49er (what a riff!) Born To Be Wild (smokin' cover song, Reale's guitar tone so tasty) Narita instrumental speeding toward the heavens, Here We Come Again (another absolute corker!) and Road Racin'......hell, every song is top shelf hard rock! Guy's vocal ability is through the roof, man what a perfect hard rock voice! I also liked Rock City and albums with Rhett (Restless Breed is pure gold!) and feel that any fan of hard rock would jump on board the stellar catalog that Riot put out.
