    I was told by a guy that rebuilds these pumps. "When in doubt? Set it to 1mm pre load, and it will always start up." Apparently that is its default.

    Turns out as per Vince's DIY- turning back the crank too far will also stop the dial. Turn back the dial VERY short!

    my book says to set it 2.5mm of preload when installing the gauge. before starting the crank rotation process.

      Ben Burrows Yeah I forget where I read it was 7mm of preload. Regardless- my issue was I was turning the crank back way too far. After resetting the gauge it is a VERY small amount of movement..I was moving way too much. Anyway, after I figured this out, the thing has been running like a champ the past few years
