Yep, I'm now 62, recobering from DEFEATING stage 3 lung cancer. Chemo and radiation beat me up pertty bad. Kinda in a forced retirement. Got a little 12X16 wood craft shop in the backyard. I do the craft show thing, feel like I do OK. After working most of my life its hard to kick back. I have found myself making special tools to help in the shop. I do scrollsaw fret work and couple yrs back got a mini wood lathe. Life is good.....

I especially like the cutoff railroad chunk for an anvil. Those 120 pound per foot rails, once a thousand freight trains have been over them, are pretty thoroughly worked hard steel.

Youd be surprised how fast 1000 trains run over some tracks. That can happen in one year easy. Old tracks have run for 50 years or more now. Just think how dense that grain is!!!

Very nice da Vinci hammer. I built one from some cants of black locust timber. The fun part was coming up with a pulley combination to get the rpm just right. I see you added a caster the the helve to negate friction between it and the cam. I used a brass plate as a bearing shoe on the cam to negate wear and friction as my cam is made of fir timber.

After several years the brain cuts a lot of it out, but those frequencies are gone forever. Worst is, the hearing loss is asymmetric but the tinnitus is the same in both ears..so confusing..
Mainly industrial noise damage, but i supplemented that with Koss headphones that were capable of concert level decibels, back in the 70s and 80s.

I've thought of making a power hammer with 10ft or more drop height. It would use a pair of lift chains that catch the hammer at the bottom and release it from the top letting it free fall. The setup would probably require a sizeable flywheel to avoid overloading the engine/motor at the moment catching the hammer. Cadence would be quite low probably 10-20bpm at most. High impact force of course would compensate for that.
