Bittersweet memories seeing and hearing this again. It's Dec. 12th 2020 as I watch this and am already in a very sentimental mood due to the holiday season and missing all of my loved ones, both living and deceased.....the 77 and 78 Yankees are my 2 favorite teams of all time. The 78 team meant the world to me.
This commercial brings me back to my youth. My brother and I used to sing the words to the commercial "Hey, look at that shot.." all the time. Thanks for posting this video.
l grew up in Brooklyn, too. I was born in 1977. I remember first watching WPIX Channel 11 in the 80’s when it was called 11 Alive. I like the 1978 Yankee promo. Catchy tune. Go Yanks!
I was the low man in on air promo at WPIX TV and was charged with producing these spots. We would gang produce the spots for a whole day to cover the entire month. I can never get this jingle out of my head. NEVER!
Did you save any of the tapes? Another jingle I've been waiting for decades to resurface is the NYDaily News radio jingle they used to play on WOR every morning. ""While it's hot get the latest. From the paper they call the greatest. I foresay go the way of the Daily News. Today, tonight, Sunday."" Probably mid to late 70s.
The year Reggie & company won their 2nd consecutive World Series championship. After 1978, the Yankees had to wait another 18 years until they win the World Series again.
Chris Chambliss hitting his pennant winning home run. Mickey Rivers wacking one down the right field line for a triple. Gregg Nettles with another fielding gem at third. Roy White sliding into second safely. What a team that was. They knew how to fight and claw, unlike some overpriced guys from today.
Anyone know the lyrics to this? Whacking that horeshide power??? Can never figure out if that is the line or not. Have argued with my prother for 50 yrs about it. Lol
I'm a red sox fan so those yrs were hell. Lol. But wpix was one of the 1st channels included with cable TV. So was always listening to that promo. Even that promo was better than the red sox promo song back then. Haha

I thought the line was "whacking that horsehide harder".
@@ChuckD79 oh maybe. That sounds correct. Been stumped on that for years. Lol
@@thestaffofrighteousness3221 LOL...yeah, makes sense that the Yanks would hit the ball harder than their competitors!

I always heard "harder."
