I know Apple hate customers repairing their own devices but that is a hell of a lot of steps to repair something that is integral to the device functioning properly!
Did the repair last night. Worked perfectly. Just have to be careful that you place the module on correctly since it uses adhesive. There are two spots on the case that align with the module to help you put it on. A lighted magnified glass is a must. Parts are cheap and usually come with tools. I got my lightning connector with nice tools for $16.99. Once you start fixing phones you start accumulating tools. I recommend using a razor when opening the iphone 7. Oh, I worked slow and made sure I got it right. Took me 4hrs. Could probably cut that time in half now that I know how to do it. Also, I used separate pieces of scotch tape to hold all my parts and I numbered them in the order I took them apart. Then I worked backwards.
Hey Walter, you seem very experienced guy. My iPhone 7 Reds' battery was draining even when shut off so replaced it under battery replacement program from Apple service center. The problem is still there. iPhone at 90% shut down at 11PM and switched on at 8AM next day drains to 83-84%. What should I do?
Definitely recommend following the link in the description to the guide. Use a few paper plates to place screws, write on plate to label steps. Use a plate to work over in case a screws drops as you unscrew it so you don't lose it.
When I did this I took a picture of the guts of the phone with the screen removed which is the easy bit. I then taped that picture (which I enlarged a bit) to a magnetic mat and just placed each screw and other bits on the picture, worked a treat...but don't sneeze ffs. All the items will only go in one place so that's not a problem. The important thing is don't get the screws mixed up.
Thanks iFixit for a good disassembly video but I would have appreciated you mentioning that the new lightning charging adhesive-backed circuit needs to be perfectly positioned on the reassemble for the ribbon connector closest to the battery connector to actually connect. (the one that folds over sideways isn't forgiving) I discovered this vital bit of info about 75% of the way through reassembly. Now to tear it back apart, peel up the lightning connector circuit and reposition checking with the logic board to ensure it will connect appropriately. When you are off by 0.5mm, you're still off and it will not connect.
Smash Ogre. I ran into the same thing 😊 this time I plugged first and with the adhesive slightly off, I repeated with the board connected insuring everything sits according.
Just completed the repair on my IPHONE 7 PLUS it is similar so it help really well, if you’re doing this repair just make sure to use a magnetic mat and to keep all of your screws organice with the parts that go on. It is not difficult you just need to take it easy and take your time. Good luck,
This is a very good dismantling video. However, you never mentioned - The hardest bit is always putting the new part in. You have to crease it in several places. Very important - align the holes with two white dots. If you want to see what I mean, watch a proper fix video
I did the repair twice and somehow managed to break the port each time I replaced it. I tested both before I started and they worked and then after I got everything back together it wouldn’t charge
Wish I had done this before I bought a new phone but had to get my old one to turn on before i could return to Apple for the discount. The quality of equipment and instructions/tutorials from ifixit are out of this world incredible. You can tell how much time and effort they’ve given create this company with details and guides to help anyone fix their overpriced stuff. I used to take apart my family’s house phone when i was little and have always wanted to see inside my iPhone. Apple didn’t disappoint me with the structure and beauty of these hand held things that most people have no clue how they work. I used a heating pad and worked great.
wow... just wow. I thought I could maybe do this myself but I really dont want to screw my phone. Its a total disassembly to change something that needs to be changed after a few years of usage.
This part is exactly like the heater core on a mid 80's Audi 5000. After the welded the vehicle together and painted it, the heater core and it's Box was the first thing bolted in place. I believe the flat-rate book w/AC & P/S, the job paid 15.7 hours of labor. I did one! I only did one not to ever repeat that job again. No wonder Audi techs have a soft-padded break room and Jack Daniels in the fridge, you know, next to the unclaimed tuna fish sandwich. WoW! ASE Master Tech since 1978
I've had a Google Pixel for 3 years and have never needed to open it, it just works! In the same period I have needed to open 5 iPhones to repair them, and with each new model Apple introduce a new fricken screw type, the reason? so they can get charge a fortune on repairs. I will NEVER buy another iPhone!
I found out you can replace the charger without removing the motherboard, just the 2 screws that need a mini flat head screwdriver, just bend the pin connector and lift up on the mobo and slide the top of the charger cable under the mobo so the connectors line up.
At first I was feeling good about this but about half way through I caught myself thinking about how I’m gonna ask Bulbs and Batteries if they’ll fix my lightning port and if I can buy the part and give it to them or if they sell them there, at a marked up price lol. I refuse to get rid of my matte black 128gb iPhone 7! I like the 3D Touch too much and besides the port and my battery, it’s perfect!
Wow. Four hours. This is impossible if you are not dextrous or have any degree of shakes. Can't do it without the trilobe screwdriver. Lining up the charger port and cable with the two white dots in the back of the phone case is vital. I would suggest removing the sticky covers from the port cable and counter-intuitively sticking the cable end first, lining up the dots and working down the cable to the charger port. Reassembly steps, use the written stripdown in reverse order on the ifix website. I have fiddled with several phones, replaced screens and batteries but this is the hardest job so far.
hmmm my question is on iphone 6 all the screws are different sizes and must be screwed back in from its original area. you're instruction is to take out all the screws without this important guidance. are all the screws for iphone 7 the same size? or maybe i missed that instructions
Excellent video - thanks. Esp for the great quality close-ups. I replaced my lightning harness yesterday from memory, but had to take it all out and re-do it. This vid really helped with what I needed. Thanks!
i am getting ready to do this to my phone and i am terrified that i am going to mess something up.ugh. i have to do it though because it will no longer charge. This is however the best video i have found for such a task
So I debating whether I should do this because my speaker works and my phone charges correctly but my earphones don’t connect? Would this also fix that problem
Merci.
I’d dare to fix it my own it’s not that hard if you pay attention to every screw and place it inside the screw hole on the plastic/metal when disassembled
Hi, I have an IPhone 7 that the sound does not work when you connect the headphones on lightening port. Would replacing the part fix the issue? Many thanks
hey bro i had bought 2 cheap charging cables for my iphone 7 plus as original was broken. My phone was not getting charged yest from the new one's and then i tried to do it with my brothers original cable and after numerous attemps i got the device on. now after that battery was lost now the phone is not charging nor it is going into any mode. I had shown it to the apple service center they said the device is not working and they said it has become dead. I dont know why and how it has happned or is it really dead or is there a problem with the charging port. Now it's not starting up and i have not dropped it and it doesnt even have any water or damage issue. I think because of the cheap wires my charging port would've stopped working somehow so should i check it locally or try to change the charging port in some local repair shop as the apple center people said nothing can be done from their side and they can only replace a new phone with hald price. I still have a little hope left cause nothing happned to my phone and it got switched off and stopped charging. please help bro
Okay so i have two major issues while doing this repair and I dont know how to fix them #1 (not as major as the 2nd) at 10:56 you connect the speaker, for some reason why wires are coming up short 2) MAIN ISSUE!!!! 11:13 you connect the ribbon cable which leads from the charge port to the motherboard. For some reason it keeps popping out and it is driving me insane. Can you help me?
You think it may be the charge port when i connect it to my mac nothing comes up it jus shows the logo screen popping up on the iPhone but nothin on the mac no sign that its connected
I get boot loop when charging port flex cable is connected to main board. When it is disconnected, there is no boot loop and phone starts normally. Can anyone help?
The instructions weren’t clear. I ended up at a 12 story building in Djibouti trying to convince a local man to reassemble my iphone in exchange for 2 pounds of avocado.
iFixit: How to replace iPhone battery (disassembles the whole phone) iFixit: How to replace IPhone Lightning Connector (disassembles the whole phone) iFixit: How to replace iPhone screen (disassembles the whole phone) They literally could've made one video for all their "how tos"
Jesus. I've replaced the screen on my iphone 7 three times over the years, and now the charging port is going out. What a nightmare this looks like. Perhaps it's just time for me to get a new phone.
I’ve done repairs and things before but sheesh....this is damn near an entire disassembly for the charging port....goodness. Guess I’ll need to just unhailbreak my phone and take it to Apple lol
It's odd they don't mention how cheap and easy it is to replace the waterproof adhesive?! :/ I thought everyone always did this when opening an iPhone 7 onwards, par-for-course?!
Step 1: disassemble everything.
Nice job! I didn't expect that a simple port replacement would need an almost full disassembly!
Daniel McTech tbh almost all new smartphones require this, you should see the S8
Well thats Apple for you
I know Apple hate customers repairing their own devices but that is a hell of a lot of steps to repair something that is integral to the device functioning properly!
apple dosent fix the lightning port ...
alexandre sansoucy Correct. You pay a fee and they replace it with a refurbished device.
Seriously! For pretty much the only part that experiences wear and tear

You were wearing any type of
Gloves ?
Himanshu Jagtap Do what apple wants you to do, they assembly it like this so you have to go and get another iphone
So basically you are telling me that the lightning connector is the very first part installed and EVERYTHING has to come out to get to it?
And Apple cant make the connector properly so it doesnt start hitting the shitter in a few months use.
... and then go down to the store to buy a new 7.
Very informative video. I now know that I have to go buy a new phone. Thanks iFixit!
I guess she knows I will break my phone on the first half of the installation so she doesn’t explain how to put it back together.
"and just like that" lol
Nevermind, I think I can live with it
Video Tittle update “ How to figure out that you just need to get another iphone” lol
It‘s really easier than it looks.
I literally was thinking about doing this until I saw this video. This is way harder than taking apart my MacBook Pro!
Definitely recommend following the link in the description to the guide. Use a few paper plates to place screws, write on plate to label steps. Use a plate to work over in case a screws drops as you unscrew it so you don't lose it.
LMFAO you have to take apart the entire f*cking phone in order to change the charger? Thanks apple
Totally by design.
It’s... the same for all phones...
The best thing is that they don't fix it 😔🔫
To be fair you need to remove a laptops innards before you can replace a keyboard
Fucking stupid there’s no way you have to take it all out
When I did this I took a picture of the guts of the phone with the screen removed which is the easy bit. Thanks for the video. Can't wait to open one ...completely
i can't get the screen open
screw that, looks like im getting ripped off at some phone store
I just love opening up a phone and finding stripped screws from so called Geniuses
Great video! Very informative, but i do believe that i will just upgrade.

how did it go?
Which size pentalobe screwdriver do you use ?
I see on the ifixit website there is an option for white, black and grey, is there any difference in the part for each?
Where can I get the fix it kit from?
I’m just gone hire someone fix this
to everybody watching this video - like you can fix it yourself.....
Good thing you don’t have to buy 7 new tools you’ll never use again to fix it.
Will this fix my audio issues with the lightning contenter
So I debating whether I should do this because my speaker works and my phone charges correctly but my earphones don’t connect? Would this also fix that problem
george hernandez no that’s a problem with ur headphones...

Is this honestly doable for the average dude
So I’ve got it all to pieces now and the instructions stop!
Is it possible to replace the lightning port with a usb c port
well that's a new one lol
total How many screw in their??? Is there all screw is same size???
WHAT IS A STANDOFF BIT??? It wasn't listed in the materials needed
that charging port was removed previously, that why it comes out smoothly
Help plz, I change the lightning conector and now not work Touch ID but home Button works 😔
lol the dongle comment is painfully accurate
FUCKKKKKKKKKK THISSSSSS!!!! I’ll just take it to a repair shop and pay the money.
I’d dare to fix it my own it’s not that hard if you pay attention to every screw and place it inside the screw hole on the plastic/metal when disassembled

You can get it here: bit.ly/2wAQiKq
changed a port on the 6 and it was so much easier.... annoying that they put the logic board on top of the charging port now.
There are many DIY repairs in life that the average person can do, this is not one of them.
Looks hard but I can do it.
Doesn't show you clearly how to remove antenna cable from loud speaker.
OK!!! I followed it and got it replaced.! Now my phone won't even turn on! Any suggestion?
Make sure and double check that everything is plugged and is connected corredtly
Tenzing Norsang sane :( did you fix it??
The instructions weren’t clear. I ended up at a 12 story building in Djibouti trying to convince a local man to reassemble my iphone in exchange for 2 pounds of avocado.
"and just like that" I came to the realization that my phone is fucked, time for a new one.
From 0:54 to 3:14 is the same exact video as the one that tell's you how to repair the speaker 😂😂😂

iFixit: How to replace iPhone screen (disassembles the whole phone)

This is precisely how Apple forces you to upgrade your phones. Joke.
wtffffff this is sooooooooo much more difficult than the iphone 6s
Tom Budin its pretty easy I did It to mine, I mean I have never fixed an iPhone 6’s but Iv done it to the X 7 and 8 pretty easy
hella inconvenient and an obscene amount of steps, but you gotta admit, that is some damn engineering
I’ve repaid my old iPhone 4 a few times but with my 7, I might as well just buy a whole new phone ugh
Jesus. I've replaced the screen on my iphone 7 three times over the years, and now the charging port is going out. What a nightmare this looks like. Perhaps it's just time for me to get a new phone.
I got big fingers and there is no way I am that nimble with extremely small parts!
I’ve done repairs and things before but sheesh....this is damn near an entire disassembly for the charging port....goodness. Guess I’ll need to just unhailbreak my phone and take it to Apple lol
We need jesus fixing it
Yup not gonna do it myself
And how to assemble IPhone back?
jyra jyrawich هههههههههههه ليس ضروري ان يرجع
Put all the pieces carefully into a trash basket and shake vigorously. Check results. If phone is still unassembled - leave in trash and buy new one.
@@jonscott623 MAde my day ! lol
You literally taking the whole phone apart.
It's odd they don't mention how cheap and easy it is to replace the waterproof adhesive?! :/ I thought everyone always did this when opening an iPhone 7 onwards, par-for-course?!
I can get the connector out now, how can I assemble the phone back? O_O"
just reverse the video.
That’s a lot work
im gonna fuckin break the screen as soon as pry with that thing😂😂😂😂 and have no phone for a week till i get a new screen THANK YOU APPLE
