- In September 2013 we celebrate the 70th Anniversary of the first flight of the D.H. Vampire.. This is a tribute to a beautiful little aircraft!
Kit Rating: 9 / 10 (Not bad at all, but recessed panel lines would have been better.)
Decal Rating: 9 / 10 (In very good register. Could have been less translucent.)
A fun build.. fairly straight forward! Recommended to modellers of all skill levels..

Thank you.. :) Have had a spell of a few days away from TH-cam.. sometimes it is good with a break.. :) Glad you are enjoying my videos.. ;) I sure like yours.. :)
i thought of your heller obsession today and what a coincidence you post a video :) awesome model, as always superbly built and painted. the swedish insignias are beautiful and definately the best choice!
You're very lucky to live where you live, getting a chance to see all these great aircraft! :) I'm old enough to remember seeing the Swedish Vampires in active service.. even if I was very young at the time.. :)
Thank you.. The Vampire is a classic aircraft and I'm old enough to remember seeing them in active Swedish service.. :)
The panel lines are raised, but I managed not to remove very many if any at all.. :) As far as I know.. :) I have the 2-seater as well, but the jet pipe is missing, so I will have to replace that with something.. not sure what yet! But I will get that built quite soon as well, as the show I want to display my Vampires at is on in a month and a half.. The club table theme will be the 70th Anniversary of the first flight of the Vampire.. :)
Thank you.. I like to share my work.. in as much as any of it is worth showing! :)
Спасибо! Я достаточно стар, чтобы помнить эти летающие в Швеции .. Это миленький самолетов! :) :)
Thank you.. :) And yes, I have the new tool as well.. hopefully I'll get it built before the end of September, I want to make that one as a Swedish Vampire as well.. especially as I'm old enough to have seen them fly, in active service.. :)
wow mate still standing strong with your great video's thanks for this work i just love to watch it
..and I'm from Sweden and I reply to your comments.. :)
Thank you.. Building the Swedish version came natural to me.. :) :) Airfix of old used to do a lot of aircraft with Swedish markings, it is a shame they no longer keep up that tradition..
Thank you.. :) I hope you have a great weekend, Pete.. :)
Heller-minator... If I started up a new channel I think I'd call it 'Hellerminator Models'.. :) This old chunk of plastic is not bad at all, and like I said in the video, it is available in a lot of guises.. :) So you shouldn't have any trouble finding one.. :)
The J28 Vampire was ahead of it's time, a nice oldie but goodie as a kit .... always amazed by your brushing technique's , it's unbelievably awesome.... adding weights to a known " Tail Dragger " only to find the build still a bit tail heavy is diassapointing taking the fusealage apart clearly isn't the best option.... using clear plastic sprues are a nice remedy... thank you for sharing.....
Great looking build. You really did that old kit some justice. Also nice to see it in something other than a bar metal finish.
Thank you.. :) Which version of the Viggen are you planing to build.. if you have the Heller kit of the JaktViggen you can do at least 4 different versions.. including fighter, attack, recon and trainer.. :)
Thank you.. and yes, it is a bit different! But the white markings were not standard on Swedish Vampires, I think they were part of some exercise or other, to mark out enemy aircraft, probably.. :)
very nice Rob, I love the vampire and I love what you did with them :) we had a vampire buzz our house a few weekends ago. truly amazing.
Thank you very much! It is a beautiful little aircraft.. :)
Thank you very much, Sir.. :) :) Hopefully you'll get to see the Heinkel He 100 in a video soon, once I have posted my Wildcat, which is due next.. :)
Thank you.. and yes, it makes a nice change.. :) But the RAF Vampires came in camo as well, I may get round to building one, as I have an original Heller boxing.. somewhere.. :)
Not in the mood for talkies right now.. I tried to do a talkie for my next video, using your eminent Wildcat photos, but it came out as 'bwawwdrrtghlo plortifnukl snip'... so I abandoned that idea.. Too tired to talk, my speach always get blurred when I'm tired.. :P Glad you liked my little bloodsucker, though.. :) Thank you.. :)
One more little gem Rob.. have a good week pal.. Pete..
Yes, it's not a difficult kit to find.. :) I have a Heller original boxing as well, which I should get built fairly soon.. if I could only find it in time.. I would like to have it done for the show in September, the more Vampires we can put on the club table, the better.. :)
Mr. Rob, a great bild again, and i love the painting and decals :], two thumbs up
Revell kit is probably the old Frog kit?
It is the old Heller kit.. still going strong! :) :)
nice job. great looking plane. like the green with white. well done.
Very nice, the paint job looks great!
Revell in particular rebox a lot of other kit makes like Italeri, Hasegawa, Zvezda, Heller, PM Models, Frog, Matchbox (a lot of Revell kits are actually old Matchbox kits) & Esci, just to name a few. Any Revell kit that hasn't got the Revell logo & a manufdacturing year stamped on it somewhere, is a reboxed kit. Airfix used to do a lot of Heller kits as they used to be part of the same company at one point, but not any more.. I have a video explaining what to look for.. :) Will PM it to you.. :)
This was the first jet used by the Swedes,.. The first jet BUILT by the Swedes was the J21 R.. But yes, I have built a few J29 Tunnans, including one in UN markings and camouflage.. :)
Looking forward to seeing it... :) Saw the video you posted earlier on my mobile phone, but could not comment on it for some reason.. Will try and remember to watch it again from the PC.. :)
No problem.. :) At least I know now for next time (I will build more Vampires) to add more weights so it won't sit on it's tail again.. :)
The new tooling is far better than this old kit.. but this kit is perfectly fine if you want a single seat Vampire in your collection! I have the new kit and hope to make it into a Swedish Vampire trainer version before the end of September.. :)
It's a little beauty! I must admit, like ChancerNW, to being curious how you deal with having to fill and sand with raised panel lines present? Actually, don't tell me, I'll let the magic speak for itself! ;)
Well, I had planned to stay away from the Heller kits for a while.. but then I remembered I had to have this Vampire built for a show I'm going to by the end of September, so decided to get it done.. :) I hope you took note that it has been reboxed by Revell as well.. Luckily for you you're not likely to come across any reboxed Revell Heller kits as they tend to be mainly in the 1/72 aircraft range, and to the best of my knowledge you don't build too many of those.. :) :)
ah I see what you did, that's what I was thinking you meant, by keeping the nose down :) She turned out great man, The Swedish colors and markings are especially nice :) I've got an old Swedish Viggen I need to build soon :)
Thank you!! It sure is a cool looking aircraft, I agree.. :)
To stop the model from sitting on its tail.. in this case I did not add enough weights though, so it still ended up leaning backwards.. :P
I haven't made a Vampire in Italian markings yet, only in Swedish so far.. :) I hope to do another Vampire before the show we're going to in September, as we will have a clubtable full of Vampires.. hopefully> :)
Thank you.. It was quite easy for once, at it was only green over grey., No camo pattern!! :)
Always happy to educate.. :)
Another great build, sir! I like the Swedish markings and enjoyed your brief history. This model certainly has been reboxed a few times.

A twin boom is one boom.. but two! :) The Vampire and the Tunnan had a similar type of engine if I remember correctly, even if the one in Tunnan was larger and more powerful, I think.. so there would be a similarity in shape, to a degree.. :)
Excellent build!! :) Lovely Swedish markings and colour scheme you got there it looks really good :)
brilliant as usual..btw, have you built the first Swedish jet, the barrel or some such name?
I saw pics of it in UN markings for work in the Congo, somewhere :)
I'm from Germany and I'm watching your videos^^
hat a cute thing the Vampire is, and this kit makes him look yet more cute :) Besides, those -white?- bands on wings and tail booms increase his beauty as a contrast with the cammo dark color. A really elegant kit. Very well done.
Excellent build, very neatly and tideley done. After all the filling did you re do the panellines. Though I know they are raised. I have one in my stash but I will wait till I get the Airfix 2 seater so I can have both on a display stand.
I guess I better pop over to your channel and see if there's anything new.. :) Have laid low on the internets the last few days.. posted this video because I was due, but haven't really been in the mood for all the interaction, much as I normally enjoy it! My stomach is playing me up, but my wife is forcing me to see the Dr this afternoon, at gunpoint.. We'll have to see what becomes of that.. :) Can't say I'm overjoyed.. :P Flobbadobba prrrrt fzzzzz.. gazumple..
I think there might be one based at North Weald, which isn't that far from here.. but I'm not sure.. It never flies over here anyway, if so.. :) But I still have vivid memories of the Swedish ones I saw all those years ago.. :)
Do all these kit companies Airfix, Revell etc share these mould because they seem to turn up over and over in different boxes.
Also how can you tell whether a kit was used before by a different company.

Pretože som Švédska .. a ja som slúžil vo švédskej letectvo! Môj modelovanie klub buduje veľa upírov pre modelovanie show v septembri bude naša téma bude 70. výročie prvého letu De Havilland Vampire .. :) Tak som to urobil švédsky jedno .. ;)
don't they have any flying over there where you are? we have 2 vampires here and a venom. saw all 3 at an airshow earlier this year.
Smashing build of that old kit Rob, Have you got the new tool Vampire, Airfix have released?
Thank you very much! Would love to make one in 1/48 as well.. :) It wouldn't be very big.. :)
Thank you very much! :) :) :)
Well, masking tape takes care of any lines that need protection.. other than that I just hope not too many gets removed.. :) :) I would love to build a Vampire in 1/48 with a nice dtailed cockpit.. :) At least this is an aircraft I have actually seen in active service.. even if it makes me feel ancient admitting to it.. :)
The kit probably never went supersonic... nor did the aircraft!! :) It's a nice little jet though, Luftforsvaret did use them as well.. :) Hopefully we'll have at least one Norwegian Vampire on the show table in September.. :)
Lovely little build :)
Yet another splendid model by you Sir!..i was thinking about buying the new tooling from Airfix... i might just do that after watching this video. :)
Blå Kalle....
Kommer ihåg att man byggde Hellers gamla byggsats på det glada 80-talet....
Snyggt jobb!
Yes! It is! :)
What is a twin boom? ;) ^^ I like the style of this plane. Reminds me little of the shape of Tunnan but with different wings and set ofc. Well done my friend!
I got the holy water & garlic...uh, wrong vampire...LOL!!! Awesome builds bro, very unusual aircraft & the name too. Looks more like a stubby plane with a very short stubby wing span, but looks cool in it's own way. Kutgw, peace!!
Hi Sir..yesterday i ordered the new tooling of the same its the Vampire T11 trainer of the New Zealand Airforce.I checked its contents and it had an amazing amount of detail to it.I am thinking of building it next as i have just finished my first Spitfire :) but i am in a dilemma between that and the Airfix 1/72Hawker Typhoon(old kit)
Super build my friend. If you have some free time over the next couple days, would you please consider pming me the video explaining what to look for with the reboxings as well ? I would be super appreciative of that. Look forward to your next build. Thanks for showing.
Indeed!! :)
Pekné modely . Prečo práve švedske letectvo ?
Great build Rob!.I do like the Vampire in british markins, rather than the others.Have you done it in italian markins, correct me if im wrong.Nether the less Great job! paint work Awsome!.
Nice build... Too bad about the inadequate ballast situation. Those overhanging tails should be lighter!
That is a great kit.. I have the Airfix Club edition, which is different from the ordinary Airfix boxing,.. I think the 'Huff' looks better though.. :)
хорошая модель получилась! оригинальная конструкция у этого самолёта из двух балок))
Did this kit go supersonic? I suppose this is an early child of the modern jetage.
Hm.. Had I known that..This Vampire would have fitted perfectly.. at least in this guise as it was used in the 1950's.. :)
I thought it would be enough but it turned out I was wrong.. and not for the first time either.. :)
Yes, it is a nice little aircraft.. :) If I was a multimillionaire, I would have loved to own one.. :)
... and the model is quite ok too!! I hope.. :)
I would love to.. if I could find some decals.. :) :)
I rwally must try and get myself that kit as well.. :) :)
it sure was ive got the F-86 SABRE to build the new airfix tooling will post a review soon
I found that the FB.5 undertook attack missions during the successful British Commonwealth campaign to suppress the insurgency in Malaya in the late 1940s and early 1950s. Looked for other examples of combat roles but didn't find any....
looks great nice job
Sorry for late reply.. :) Will PM you the video straight away.. :)
nicely done
Looks very good Rob :)
Well, you got there in the end.. even if it got flagged as spam.. :)
Cool! Fun to learn something new. ;)
Nice kit! :)
Hi Aaron im doing a group build starting tomorrow there is no rush but its on 1950s jets
You're from Sweden? I thought you're from England or so;)
Cheers!
Love it in Swedish markings
100 viewer!:D Anyway, awesome model! And it's so small and cute:))
Why do you use weights
On I guess they saw action in India and Rhodesia as well...
The Hellerminator saw that comment.. :)
