This is such a beautiful song it makes my heart ache. I couldn't have asked Jani to leave us with a more perfect example of his talents as a lyricist along with his amazing vocal abilities. I know when he was in high school he was offered a partial scholarship to Kent in their theatre arts program and I imagine it was because of his impressive vocal abilities.
Beautifully said and so very true. I get tired of hearing how underrated he was but love hearing why. So many leave comments talking about him not being appreciated yet have absolutely no idea what he was being unappreciated for. He did write some amazing rock music but nothing beats the beauty of his ballads in the sweetness of his voice when he singing them.
"Washington Square Park" by Jani Lane reflects themes of nostalgia, heartbreak, and reflection. The song paints a vivid picture of the park as a central setting for memories and emotional moments, symbolizing both a physical place and a space in the heart where past experiences are held. It's melancholic yet beautiful, capturing the longing for connections and times gone by. - ChatGPT
I heard Manhattan is a million stories old The place where the Brooklyn bridge is bought and sold And the Indians made the series man, that's cool I thought the beads were jewels Somewhere in California someone's got it made I heard they got a drink called electronic lemonade But I couldn't get one if they're giving them away Cause I was born to lose Uh-oh-oh Down to one last smoke Tonight it's sure to get cold Where to now we don't care Maybe take a walk down Washington Square A million tiny lights come flicker into life Busy dodging glass as the day approaches night They're all headed somewhere too A place that's warm and bright I got no one at all I'm working without a net, hope I don't fall Where to now we don't care Maybe hangout in Washington Square Thought I heard someone say Tomorrow would be a proper day if you pray So I pray until my strength's gone Well nothing came, nothing came In the village, the line slips tonight Bleecker's close down, only two souls in sight One's an artist, the other is a clerk Neither can find work Down to one last smoke I never knew New York will be so cold Where to now, we don't care Maybe find a blanket in Washington Square Uh-uh-uh (2x) ------Metaphorical explanation from me: A million tiny lights come flicker into life -> these are the fireflies coming into life during night time... Busy dodging glass as the day approaches night -> these "glass" are light bulbs, fireflies dodges bulbs and fly around them... Bleecker's close down, only two souls in sight -> Bleeker street
@@victorialey2867 I posted so others can correct, will you please? Would appreciate it very much as I listen to this song almost everyday but my ears can't seem to dissect the words.

"When the (Cleveland) Indians made the (World) Series, man that's cool". (Janie was from Ohio) Can't make out the next line. Sounds kinda like "thought the (beads?) would too"?
Jani does not get the credit he deserves such a talented writer and performer who left too early

He had such a subtle way of using inflection to convey feeling in a simple melody. Those verses are just pure gold.

Awesome song 👍 the essence of Jani in this song for sure
Its crazy Jani didnt release these Jabberwocky songs. Theyre way better than what Warrant was putting out late 90s earlys 00s.
So much talent. Seriously. Just ridiculous talent. Jani was truly one of the greats.
My favorite song off this unreleased masterpiece!

If that's the case you must know why the completed songs have never been released.

I thought the beads were jewels
Somewhere in California someone's got it made
I heard they got a drink called electronic lemonade
But I couldn't get one if they're giving them away
Cause I was born to lose
Uh-oh-oh
Down to one last smoke
Tonight it's sure to get cold
Where to now we don't care
Maybe take a walk down Washington Square
A million tiny lights come flicker into life
Busy dodging glass as the day approaches night
They're all headed somewhere too
A place that's warm and bright
I got no one at all
I'm working without a net, hope I don't fall
Where to now we don't care
Maybe hangout in Washington Square
Thought I heard someone say
Tomorrow would be a proper day if you pray
So I pray until my strength's gone
Well nothing came, nothing came
In the village, the line slips tonight
Bleecker's close down, only two souls in sight
One's an artist, the other is a clerk
Neither can find work
Down to one last smoke
I never knew New York will be so cold
Where to now, we don't care
Maybe find a blanket in Washington Square

How the fuck these songs remain unreleased?!!!
Can anyone make out the two lines after "The place where the Brooklyn Bridge was bought and sold?" Beginning with "and the Indians made(?)"
"When the (Cleveland) Indians made the (World) Series, man that's cool". (Janie was from Ohio)
Can't make out the next line. Sounds kinda like "thought the (beads?) would too"?
I never got married 😂
