I always get a little nervous watching monster high redesign videos because i worry the artist's going in with poor intentions but i keep getting rewarded for watching anyway by amazing and thoughtful desings like yours. Catty's probably my favourite of the three

ooh love! rochelle is probably my favorite, but they're all so good! i would love to see a continuation, and if I may make a request I never see robecca get redesigned or appreciated in general (but no pressure lol. if you want to design someone else, or just not at all, that's totally fine. just thought i'd say something in case you were inspired to do her).
I absolutely love all of these designs!!! If you ever do a part 2 could you think about Gigi? She's my fav and I've never seen someone redraw her and I think your style would fit her perfectly

Hi! Thanks for your feedback! I started this hoping to make a series out of it, so I started with semi-popular characters to help draw people in. But, I have some more characters lined up for the next video that I'd definitely consider more niche. Thanks for watching!

My personal redesign for Jinafire also has gold accents. I made her skin a more golden brown while giving her arms, legs, and tail the golden highlight / accent / gradient

Ohhh i love those designs, i also like how you explain your choices as you go! When it comes to next character suggestion, i'd love to see Styxx, she's my absolutely favourite doll, but her clothes could use some work-- anyway, great job, i'm looking forward to more designs :D
I absolutely adore your redesign of Jinafire! She's honestly one of my favorite characters partially because she has my favorite pun name and the other reason is that I love the fact that instead of just being a generic western dragon, Monster hunter highest sighted Off off of an Asian more specifically a Chinese dragon. I also am absolutely obsessed with her golden skin tone and sculpted details on her doll. This of course made me all the more sad to see her G3 design because like a good handful of characters, I absolutely feel like Her new design is a downgrade. I think she looks ugly especially with that horribly clashing green and gold skin tone And she doesn't even look like a dragon let alone a Chinese dragon. I absolutely feel like your redesign did her justice and you actually were able to combine the green and gold skin tone in a aesthetically pleasing way

Ok I liked the previous design of her back then. But liked her train. Oh the coolest part on long dragons is their horns mainly deer is depicted but I like it a total dragon queen. You’ll like gargoyles the tv show.

I love all of your designs, but I’m surprised that with Rochelle you didn’t lean into the Roller Derby thing. Especially since that in one of the movies she was apart of the team for a rival school.

I got a little bit nervous when you were saying you didn't like Catty's design because I thought you were Referencing her new body type. Thankfully that wasn't the case but it genuinely pisses me off with the amount of fat phobia I've been seeing in the monster high fandom. Like if you wanna complain about Catty, complain about her outfit or the fact that she's clearly POC coded but they refuse to give her proper textured hair (On a side note I absolutely hate when a non human skin toned fantasy character that's Clearly POC Isn't given texture hair if they do have hair)
She's honestly one of my favorite characters, and them changing her body shape doesn't really bother me 🖤💖

I feel like they made those "curvy" bodies, but have no idea how to dress bigger people, so it just looks... weird. (I'm a plus-sized stylist, and I wasn't even taught how to dress myself in a flattering way while I was studying, so I'm not raging on them or anything. We just need to learn more.)

Culturally the side slit has become an iconic statement of the qi pao /cheongsam etc. In the early 1900s the qi pao began to shorten in length as the cultural opinions around women's rights changed globally. The higher cut of the skirt, along with the slit, symbolized empowerment as well as for functional purposes. I appreciate your concern, and I understand you may have interpreted the slit as sexualizing, but that was not my intention whatsoever. I am a Chinese artist and I pride myself on representing my own culture accurately. I made the slit high to symbolize Jinafire's confidence as well as show off the intricate details on the sculpt of the doll.
@ no lol im chinese and well yeah the slit is a well known aspect of the qipao its still way too high up in the skirt. unless shes wearing pants under it u would NOT see slits go up that high.
@ As I stated in the video, I was inspired by the qipao and took aspects of it to influence her outfit design. I purposefully exaggerated the slit and was not trying to exactly replicate a traditional qipao. In my headcanon, jinafire is not a traditional Chinese girl and she has more progressive views. I don't see the problem with this design as she is not suggestive or inappropriately portrayed. You have the right to your opinion on my design choices, but I also can defend my choices as well.
@ in my all honest opinion its still tacky. i have seen so many other white designs of qi paos where they purposefully design the slit to be higher to be sexier or more trendy and to that: please dont take inspiration from cultural clothing u have no stake in. ure very dismissal of my concerns but it is ur design so 🤷
@ there are other ways to adapt qi paos to be more modern other than just making the slit higher by the way. there are many designers (photos of such dresses on apps like xiaoshongshu) where there is plenty of inspiration with styling.
OK, this might sound a little fat phobic, but I do not give a crap! I dislike cattys new body. I am on the skinnyer side and I always related to catty because i’m a extravert and I don’t know if something about her just captured my essence, so i’m a bit sad she doesn’t match me anymore.
Most of the characters in MH are extroverted and skinny. Also opening up about not caring if you sound bigoted is a wild choice, i think you need to self reflect more.

@@WAVEPOOLSUN Which is why I say reflect on that. Her personality is virtually untouched. she’s just not skinny anymore. And it’s a good thing to change up these characters body types, the lack of diversity in the lineup was always a problem in monster high. If they’re gonna redesign the dolls for the new gen and with a better budget than gen 2, of course it’s best to try a new shape for their bodies. At the end of the day, the vast majority of Monster High dolls are skinny and personality wise they’re mostly extroverted. Plus, is not the message of Monster High Be who you want to be? Perfectly imperfect and you do it your way. Should the dolls not reflect the many children who will own them. Sometimes the logic is just diversifying your cast.
