  • This video explains possible lifting phenomenon, It highlights the lifting possibility with two and four lifting lugs. This video demonstrate the lifting analysis of horizontal vessel by two lifting lugs which are 60 to 90 degree with respect to lifting hook. It explains how to calculate the vertical distance for respective height analytically. It also explains the contact formation for lifting lugs, meshing guide, loading and boundary conditions. It highlights, how to prepare deck for lifting analysis along with results extraction like equivalent stresses, deformation and reaction validation

    Thanks for this video!
    I have two queries;
    1. We get different deformations for different approaches (i.e. rigid, deformable or beam). If deformation of the component while lifting is my concern, then which approach should be used or which is more reliable?
    2. If I use body to ground beam from at the lifting surfaces of lugs & carry out analysis i.e. one end of the beam is connected to lifting lug and other end of the beam is grounded, Do you think this approach can be used instead of remote point?

    • @graspengineering9249
      @graspengineering9249  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hello Jigar, Please find my reply for the both queries:
      1. If deformation of the component while lifting is my concern, then go with deformable approach.
      2. Your said approach can be used (grounded should be at lifting coordinates) . But better try to simulate the realistic approach, dont try with any simple tricks.
      You are doing actual lifting so you should decide how physically model will behave while lifting and decide accordingly lifting scenario. Try all configuration and compare with more realistic one.

    For the same tank, can we consider the tank as a rigid body and the supports (saddles) as flexible? if yes, does ANSYS includes the mass of the rigid body in the analysis? can we confirm through reactions at the fixed support equal to the weight applied? Please reply

    Hello team, can you please explain us what is the basic difference between displacement bc's and remote displacement bc's in ansys workbench. What are the different applications?

    • @graspengineering9249
      @graspengineering9249  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      As name suggest remote BC create remote point to apply the boundary or loading conditions, while in case displacement BC you can apply directly on the geometry (surface/solid). Remote BC is useful where you want to apply remote loads ie. away from geometry (like in case of nozzle loads which are acting due to external piping, will be applied at the center or nozzle shell junction through remote BC)

    Hi Grasp team,
    It is really a knowledgeable video and it is very simple to understand the scope of the task but some of things difficult to understand because in between the video your voice is missing.
    So can you please check and upload it again.
    I have two question:
    1- Adjusting the density of vessel to get overall weight of the assembly. My questing is why we are considering the assembly weight? actually my understanding is we are lifting the vessel by mean of slings so we should focus only the vessel weight.
    2- could you please explain why remote point should align with CG, even if we consider some eccentricity from CG location it should not affect the lifting of vessel.
    Hope I am able to explain my question.

    • @graspengineering9249
      @graspengineering9249  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for appreciation ! Please find reply below for your questions:
      1. You should represent the actual operating scenario through simulation. You can either add the mass in vessel density or else add separate mass, the reaction should have the overall operating weight of the vessel while lifting.
      2. It will be good if your CG will align with lifting point (hook), it will help to reduce the extra moment to due to eccentricity. In case of eccentric lifting, the additional moment due to eccentric distance will act.

    Why is it necessary to insert individual remote point for each lifting lug? Can't we select both the inner surface of hole with single remote point?

    • @graspengineering9249
      @graspengineering9249  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes can simulate with single point also. Please refer our lifting beam analysis video for more detail on lifting scenario.

  • @akshaysawant2394
    @akshaysawant2394 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    That's really an informative video. Appreciated ...!!! I am having doubts, 1. Why we are not considering acceleration in the lifting direction? (4g, 5g) Because as far as I know, We do consider acceleration in case of problems like lifting analysis, transportation analysis. 2. If the lifting position is a little eccentric with CG of structure, then in order to avoid extra moments, what should be my boundary conditions?

    • @graspengineering9249
      @graspengineering9249  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for appreciation ! 1.This is just explanation video, how to perform lifting scenario, for lifting it should be 1g only. For transportation the acceleration will be higher. 2. The boundary condition represent the actual site condition, so you need to fix the geometry as per site condition only.. In order to avoid extra moment, you need to constraint the rotation dof.

      Timing in solution means? If you increase time step it will increase solution time & help to converge the solution but will not effect results.
