- In this training we are going to learn How to calculate GPM for FCU & AHU for chilled water system.
The GPM formula is derived from the equation of HEAT Formula : Q = mc∆T
Heat Formula:
When heat energy is added to a substance, the temperature will change by a certain amount. The relationship between heat energy and temperature is different for every material, and the specific heat is a value that describes how they relate.
heat energy = (mass of substance)(specific heat)(change in temperature)
Q = HEAT
m = mass flow of water in (lb/hr)
c = specific heat of water
∆T = Temperature difference (F)
thanks sir ur may best mentor now i know how to compute gpm.thnks a lot more power..,

Really u r great sir u r giving such a good thing related to hvac I hope I can leartn lots of thing from here
Basic formula was ( TR * 12000 / 500 * ∆T )
12000 is used for conversation purpose for TR to BTU
What is 500 here, Why it is used there ?
Pls explain Sir.. Had this doubt throughout the video.
Btw Video is Excellently made. Keep it up.
Thanks Sir, Really you are great
You are awesome

what if the Delta T in degree celsius. Normally in District cooling we consider Delta T 8.9 to10 Degre celsius. Pls reply whether To find GPM we need to input Fahrenhiet or Degree celsius.
Thanks....this is the good way....👍👍
Dear can you please tell me about this 12000, and 500? these values are showing what???
Good explaination sirthank you very much
Thanks and please keep it up
Thank you very much sir for this awsm video and ur help.
Welcome Wasim
So the delta T we get from spec sheet of the fcu/ahu/chiller?
It is the design engineer who decides it at design initial stage.
Excellent explanation... Thanks
You are great sir... thank you so much
Welcome Imran.
Thanks for this video sir.
Sir agar hum Delta T celsius me calculate karte hai to gpm alg value aayegi
Yes
Good, thanks for this information
Thanx for all videos , pls upload designing videos for dehumidifier.
Thank you 🙏
how do consider fcu capacity as 5 TR and how to arrive that capacity of fcu or Ahu ?
load calculation is required to determine the total zone capacity based on which number of FCU capacity is decided and distributed.
Super
In case of reheat coil how can we calculate the gpm which is generally fitted between the ducts
Sir, I am Student. Your video is very good and informative. Could you please clarify my doubt... If Air handling Unit is installed then, No need of FCU in Air cooled System. Also, If FCU is installed then no need of AHU. Am i right sir? Simply means AHU (or) FCU any one we can use (or) We need both AHU and FCU in a Air cooled system. Awaiting for your reply sir..
This depends on your type of building or system design. It can be either FCU or AHU and combination of both depending on requirements
@@hvacsimplified Thank you Sir.. 👍
Thanks for the great video.. so helpful
In case we have AHU designed and the evaporator coil sized to specific capacity, can we increase the airflow to achieve higher capacity?
A chiller designed to specific capacity and connected to AHU to achieve a certain indoor temperature and air change rate, whats could happen if the AHU coil changed to another one smaller with the same high air flow?
The face velocity will be higher?
The effects on sensible capacity?
The effects on latent capacity?
Thanks again
It's is not possible by increasing the airflow. The system is designed at certain indoor design temperature with a perticular leaving coil temperature. The increase in flow will change the Psychometric properties of air.
Nice
Thank you soo much.
Welcome 👍
good teaching sir
Is the formula applicable also on chiller equipment?
If the fcu or AHU capacity is design by
l/s then how we calculate?
Does GPM depends anyhow on the size of the coil we take. I mean dia and length
Sir is formule me ju 24 he ye aik constant figure he lekin ye kis terhaa calculate huee
Best video
Very nice sir tnx
Sir how to calculate GPM in airwaher system
Sir. Please tell me what is 12000 and 500. Why we will take this.
The GPM is derived from the equation of HEAT Formula : Q = mc∆T
Heat Formula:
When heat energy is added to a substance, the temperature will change by a certain amount. The relationship between heat energy and temperature is different for every material, and the specific heat is a value that describes how they relate.

Q = HEAT
m = mass flow of water in (lb/hr)
c = specific heat of water
∆T = Temperature difference (F)

or
Imperial gallon ?
Excellent..
Thank You for all of your support.
Sir,Fcu power consumption kitna hota kyuki motor 100w ki hai but cooling capacity 5.8 kW hai.please clear my doubt.
Cooling capacity is the total requirement which is the coil capacity of FCU, the power consumption of standard FCU is for the blower motor

Sir ap my Chilled water ka Temperature bataya hai 45°C or hot water ka 55°C ya Fixed temperature hai ya Har area ka alag alag Water temperature hai phali chez ma designed kar rha hn Dialysis Ky liy Us ko Chilledwater chahea hum Water per dalon kasay calculate karn gy ky humy din ka kitna water chahea or 11mechines hn
This is standard temperature for chilled water system for water. You need to understand Delta T and differences in temperature
We'll explained 🙂
I'm sorry I don't understand the language but I appreciate the video and the knowledge very much. can someone explain to me where the 12000 came from in the formula?
It's basically to convert the unit of RT to BTU/Hr. as 1 RT = 12,000 BTU/Hr.
Thanks brother

Thanks u so much super
Plzz let me know what is 24

Sir, formula kahanse aya derivation chahiye
Rule of thumb .10 degree TD coil selection requires 2.4 GPM chilled water per ton . 10 degree Td condenser selection requires 3.4 GPM. condenser water per ton.
Please take an example for more clarification.
Sir Delta T has to been in degree Fahrenheit

PLs Anybody Hlp Me I Need This Ans.
Excellent video. I have 1 doubt please solve it.
From internet i saw this formula relation
GPM = 24*TR/delta T
This is for water.
Now for derivation of this relation:
We know from heat equation
m*c*deltaT = TR*3.52
Where m=mass flow rate of water in kg/sec, c= Specific heat of water in KJ/Kg-C, TR= Tonnes of refrigeration.
Now m = Density*volume flow rate
Now putting, c = 4.2 KJ/Kg-C and Density = 1000 kg/m3
We get,
4200*Volume flow rate (m3/s)* deltaT = TR*3.52
Solving, Volume flow rate = (3.52/4200)*(TR/deltaT) m3/s
Now to convert it in GPM we know
1 m3/s = 15850 GPM
So,
V = 13.3*TR/deltaT
These 2 relation is not matching. Please check and tell where i am doing wrong. I have checked multiple times. Please help.
delta T is 5.55 Deg c, not 10 Deg fahrenheit
What is 24. What is 500.
1 tr is 2.4 gpm but your calculation 1 gpm is 2.4 tr
500 kaha se aaya sir
But we want to know ....second question

Where came from 24
