The best book I’ve read this year is probably the remains of the day by kazuo Ishiguro. It’s an arguably boring story about a butler that drives around the English countryside and thinks about his life. But it goes into regrets and wondering if anything in his life actually mattered and wondering how he can go on with the rest of it. Incredible read and even though I’m young made me think about what I’m doing. Ishiguro did win the Nobel prize so what I’m saying isn’t crazy in anyway. I also read two of his other books never let me go and the buried giant that are also incredible and vastly different.

Bro! I grew up in Mormonism and left in the early 2000s. Sam was an early voice for me at that time.

Terrific video! I also read several of those books this year. Four Thousand Weeks is probably my favorite . I think the format of this video was a great idea - the way you grouped the books together by genre. And you gave just the right amount of information about each one. It was very much appreciated, and I look forward to more.

Great list of books I’ll have to check out! Some are already on my “TBR” list. Right now, I’m reading “The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat” I’m new to your podcast so still trying to figure out what works for me along with going to school with compressed courses. I think I’m a 30 min/10 pages a day reader at the moment as I have a lot of reading to do for school. Keep up the great work, so glad I found this podcast/book club!
    Cheers!

I love it! Olive Sacks was an incredible author. I get the school + life balance. I've gone back for a degree in Philosophy and English. Sometimes I question my life choices. 😂. Thanks for the comment.

Me halfway through watching this video (my first on your channel): “Wow, this content is excellent.”
Brilliant. Thank you! I’m studying to be a Psychologist and I have an interest in philosophy.

Hey, thanks for that! We have similar interests. How long have you been in school? I’m 44 and have gone back for a degree in Philosophy and English.

Adding some of these to the tbr!! I haven’t read any philosophy yet but I want to! Good tip on the translation rec. I also wanna read the reader come home one, I love brains!!!! One of my favorite books I read this year was the passion according to gh by Clarice Lispector. Clarice reads a little like philosophy, agua viva is existential as hell

If you like brains, make sure to watch my interview with Dr. Maryanne Wolf who wrote Reader, Come Home. She was great.

Thank you for sharing these! I've had _Reader Come Home_ in my TBR pile for a while, and I'm inspired to read that this coming year. I also have Crime and Punishment on audiobook (I sometimes enjoy audiobooks if I like the narrator), and I'm going to give that a shot (using your tips from your audiobook video). Also, I think you paced this video perfectly! It's a little more meaty and brisk than usual, but it fit the content. I really enjoy your videos (especially lately, as I'm trying to focus on mental health and work-life balance), and I feel calmer and more thoughtful after watching them.

🎉🎉🎉🎉That was great! I really enjoyed hearing what you read throughout the year and some of your thoughts about each book. So, as I was listening I did my own assessment of what I read under your guidance and inspiration in the Book Club and Podcast this year. Comparing my choices, I read 9 of the books you did, listened to 3 of the author's podcast with you and I have 5 additional of the books you mentioned waiting on my reading table for their turn to get read. All in all, I had a wonderful reading year with you, the Book Club, Pod Cast and the numerous tips and encouragement you have given us to read and enjoy a richer life. Thanks, Eddy. 2024 was a great year and I wish you an even better 2025. You have certainly earned it and been a great inspiration to us. Thank you so much! 💓

The best stage version of Frankenstein was done in London some years ago with David Tennant and Benedict Cumberbatch alternating roles as Frankenstein and the Monster. A filmed version of the play was uploaded to TH-cam during the COVID lockdown. I don’t know if it’s still there…but if you can find it, watch it.
