What I don't understand is why are there no other US interests in Portugal. I live near the Central Valley in California and I hear Boston has a respectable Portuguese community as well.

I agree mismatch. But the US foreign office says that their station in Porto Delgada is the oldest diplomatic office we have. Dates back almost to the revolutionary war days. What I don't understand is why are there no other US interests in Portugal. I live near the Central Valley in California and I hear Boston has a respectable Portuguese community as well.
