Extracting Gold from Rocks!

  • These quartz rocks had real gold in them! Running a hard rock gold ore sample from my Olalla claim to see what kind of gold value's it contains. After running this sample I estimate the ore to have about 5 grams per tonne. Not a very rich quartz seam, but enough to keep looking in the area. This was the last day I had to run the Icon i150 centrifugal concentrator as the icon was just on loan for a year and had to be returned to be sold.

After studying the Montana gold explorations for the last 150 years I've found that 19th century geologists out here were very primative in their explorations. I'd bet they only found the stuff laying on the surface in many places. There's a lot of gold still laying around the west unfound.

Hi Dan. When you were panning the water was hitting the back of the material and taking some of a thin line of black sand with it. I've been painstakingly avoiding this in a bid to not lose any precious metal..... which is thus far somewhat elusive here in southern Western Australia... Am I being too cautious?
Thank you. Love the show for all the content and the company you keep.

    Praise the lord!
    We’re back!
I’ve been watching and waiting for the Hard Rock mining!
    Icon is going away.. 🙁
Getting a Shaker Table or another concentrator?
I built a ore concentrator loosely based on an old Keene concentrator. It’s been almost perfect at concentrating the ore. I can add several buckets of finely crushed ore with very little loss of very tiny micron size gold!
Check it out sir it may be a good inexpensive alternative to a shaker table or a replacement icon type unit!
BTW.. the gold you showed would be captured 100% in my concentrator!
    As always thanks much!

Hey there Dan bummer you got to give the “Icon” back sad day. I love this set up and with that being said are going to take down the whole mill? Or could you do a series of large sluices after the icon is gone? What’s the next step? Thanks much I have a note book and I take detailed notes from all your videos. Keep them coming sir!

    • @theinternetisaseriesoftube5107
      @theinternetisaseriesoftube5107 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes. Very, very sad.
I'm guessing the setup will stay put, and your sluice recovery system prediction will be correct.
The Dream Mat guys are saying crazy stuff about their mini dream mat (which I own), and I believe them. They say that people who use rock crushers are using it, and even ditching leaching systems in favor of it. I'd be interested to see how those claims hold up against Captain Red Beard's testing, though.

I'm at 6:02 in the video and screaming "don't process wet material in the jaw crusher!" We just spent half a day cleaning ours out. It'll make a cement - almost - and it won't fall through as it's crushed. I'm writing this not knowing what will happen in your case Dan. Pushing play to see if I'm right or wrong.
Now at 10:24 and Dan's rock crushing went off without a hitch. I think I know the difference. We were feeding in a batch that was already crushed that had formed a paste around the smaller bits of rock. I guess larger wet pieces don't clog. Just don't ever feed stuff in that's already been crushed with wet finely crushed residue on it - you'll regret it.
Now at 14:24 and the sounds of Dad taking apart the clogged impact mill - funny to me after having been through this experience just yesterday.

So we were on a claim earlier this summer, and it had recently been logged, making it very easy to prospect. Because of all that clearing, it exposed a really nice section of bedrock. Within that bedrock (from above, not the side) I found a large amount of mineralized, super rusty orange, rotten quartz. The deeper I dug, the more orange it got. I kept a pail full of that material (which this video reminded me of), still have to process it when I get a crusher. Is there a chance that that could be the start of a larger quartz vein hidden underneath?

Dan, I enjoyed the video, but, now I have a question. In the gold shown in the microscope there was a large piece of metallic brown gold material, is that gold? If so, what makes it brown? Thank you Dan.

I'm not sure about the one odd piece in there. It looks out of place.

For a cost breakdown on the icon and product moved, is it a good investment. The icon looks amazing.

cost of icon must be too expensive, Dan used it for 1.5 years and still didn't buy it.

@Dan Your link for the gold panning kit doesn't work. Do you have another. Id like to give you the affiliate sale.

Hey Dan great video. Sad to see the icon go but was a really neat journey while you had it. What’s your next step now? Do you have a different setup to use with the hammer mill?

That is a really cool machine. I live in an area where they’ve been mining for gold for over 100 years. I was hiking with my son and had my minelab 800 with me and found quite a few rocks with quartz in them! I really want to crush them up and see what’s inside! What’s the cheapest way that I can do that?

I think I’ve founded a few black stones containing shiny sand like gold. Is it truly gold?. I can share the video if you don’t mind.

I have questions. I'm not trying to sound sarcastic, I'm just trying to get educated. Is it worth all of this work and money spent to get such little gold? And is this just searching for a spot that may have a huge amount? I've watched a lot of your videos and I've never seen anything that made it worth your time, unless, of course if it's just a hobby of yours. I can tell you love what you do
