However, this is not at all out of character. Viewing the rest of his body of work, it's clear to see this man lives and breathes dedication and patience.
@@TheNameIwantedWasTkn The original Antikythera Mechanism is actually the very one Chris is making right now, which will get thrown back in time into ancient Greece the very first time he sets it in motion after completing it. It'll then get found by a merchant and end up in a shipwreck. Then remains will be found in 1901, and then later x-rayed and used as a template by Chris to make itself.

Wow welcome back. Been missing this series. As you mention 360 as a potential division it comes to mind that the ancient Hebrew calendar was 360 days to a year rather than 365.
Actually so we're the calendars of most other ancient people's that I am aware of. Since a lunar calendar would get out of sync in only a few years it seems to point to me that the solar year may well have been 360 days at one time and possibly some astronomical catastrophe must have happened. It is interesting to research into this...
@@johnpokrzywa1139 If an astronomical catastrophe capable of adding 5 full days to the year had happened after the invention of writing, we would definitely have evidence of it, at least in the mythology.
I remember looking into this 360 day calendar a long time ago. And my archaeology friends told me that within two years every culture on Earth changed from a 360 day calendar to a 365 day calendar. I think the simplest explanation is that the Earth used to have 360 days in a year and it ended up getting changed at some point. Likely a near-miss from a very large meteor

@@Koumajutsu Or the mechanism was a mechanical time machine and he had gone back to the past to learn from the master? Hmn, could Chris have been the original apprentice who built the machine and thrown it into the sea on purpose?
Now I see what was alluded to a few months ago. Truly impressive work. Not only the build itself, but the detailed research, the presentation and clear explanation. You have broken new ground, where everyone else wasn't even in the room. Not only have you made a beautiful mechanism, but have done the original research to contribute to it making yours the only accurate model of this, one of the most important historical mechanical devices discovered.
Unless you're the only one with a key to your work shed there's no point cleaning it out. Usually, "Her indoors" sees empty storage space as an incentive to find something to fill it with. :( I've got a little 1 car garage sized "Man cave" workshop, But it's had literally TONS of junk abandoned in it for years now. I cracked last week and decided I wanted to clear it out and organise it enough to be able to do simple DIY projects and do servicing on the car myself again without having to spend 3 hours digging through stacks of junk to get to everything I needed first. As it was, even if I COULD find the tools I needed, there was no actual free space to do any work in there, and one stray grinding or welding spark could have smouldered in the mountain of avalanched household junk for hours before finally catching light and burning the place to the ground ! I've took 4 full trailer loads of household crap to the recycling centre so far. I've found the welding equipment I haven't been able to get to in an age, I've been reunited with my lathe that had boxes piled all around and on top of it, and unearthed toolboxes I couldn't find when I needed them. I've been busting a gut all week trying to get my workshop into a usable state again, and I'm finally starting to see some progress........ But yesterday I got asked if I thought I'd have it cleared out before next weekend? I asked why it mattered how long it takes me to "Excavate" my workshop (I was expecting to be asked to fix something once my "Man cave" was usable again), But she said that one of her friends is moving house and she needs somewhere to store stuff for a few months !!!!! I said "How does "Not happening" sound?!!" and told her they can pay the £30 a week I had to back when I needed to rent a storage unit. Most of the crap I've already clear out of my workshop is from when one of her other friends moved over 5 friggin' years ago !!!!! I'd told her several times over a year back that I needed it collecting ASAP or I'll have to get rid of it myself, but nothing ever got taken, So I'm feeling that I'm quite justified about finally dumping her abandoned crap....... And now I'm being asked to allow ANOTHER of her friends to do the same?!?!?!
As impressive as this is, I think your work on what tools and methods were possible at the time may ultimately prove to be even more informative than how this specific device works.
I am flabbergasted at the level you and the people around you are operating. You are solving one of the great mysteries of the antiquity and making an immense contribution to our understanding of the world that was before ours. All the best in your research and building!

Thank you for your great work of keeping our planet's timekeeping and clockmaking tradition alive. Without timekeeping and calendars, we wouldn't have agriculture. The ability to carry this information into the future is vital for the continued survival of the human race.
Great to see you back Chris and resuming this work - much anticipated. This whole thing is amazingly fascinating. I can see just how much work has gone into all the research and the resulting paper.
The fact that this project is back and not abandoned made my day! So glad to see the progress made in your absence and it's extra special for me as I come from Greece. Thanks for the amazing work and great videos!
This kind of detailed, careful research and commitment to accuracy is what sets Clickspring apart from most other TH-cam channels. Thank you for taking us along on this journey.
He had to go back to replace the original after he discovered some errors, same errors that caused the time gap, that's why he was missing for more than a year. Luckily he had enough prerecorded clips for his other channel to compensate the paradox.
You are basically one of the pinnacle channels of my TH-cam subscriptions, and I've been watching this series since the start, it doesn't matter to me that it takes the time that it does to create, because it simply is that good.
Its great having you back Chris. Missed listening to you voice as you explain step by step how this amazing machine is made. Will certainly read the research paper. Well Done
No uploads for ages... "G’day Chris here... oh by they way here is a journal article I authored while trying to figure out parts" TH-cam doesn't deserve such quality content ahaha
Awesome Chris! Just when I think that you cannot possibly be more impressive with your work and studies, you just blow those thoughts away! Thank you so much for your time and research into this, it will benefit the present generation and many future generations as well!
Whoa!! So that’s where youve been! Doing revolutionary research before continuing your build! I’m so glad you’re back and the build is back on! This will be so amazing to watch, especially since you actively contributed to this discovery! Much respect! Cheers!!
Here's the challenge: alternate between watching Wintergatan's Marble Machine builds and Clickspring's Antikythera builds. It's okay to lose your mind.
This is honestly one of the most thorough build projects that I know off to be fair. Not only does it showcase some astonishing craftsmanship, but it also highlights the capabilities that once existed so far back in time. The Antikythera mechanism is a rather complicated device for what is expected of its time. At times it makes me wonder, what if this type of technology weren't lost. What if it continued on and how would that have changed the world we live in today? Considering that some of the mechanical details and general finess showcased in the mechanism is easily a thousand years ahead of its time. Wouldn't have been unrealistic for an industrial revolution to have happened far earlier than it actually did.
I looked at the post time and just got the chills.. I’m going to savor every second this video like the last bit of iced lemonade on a hot summers day.
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 Chris, this is a monumental contribution to human knowledge! You are even part of a cutting-edge empirical study on the topic! That *cannot* be understated! Fantastic work!
Congratulations and I relate very personally to the feeling of not being able to continue a project until you've wrapped your mind *fully* around what you're doing. This is such a poetic example of this.
I am 100% blown away by your dedication and the degree of your craftsmanship. It is honestly nothing short of inspiring. Absolutely loving this channel. I'd love to know more about how you got into this stuff? Maybe you could do a video detailing your development as a craftsman and what inspired you in this journey? Just an idea. :)

Dec 12, 2020. That was the date set on Tony's time machine...
The plot thickens
Wait for real????? Link?
what no way?!?!?!?!!!
He had to go back to replace the original after he discovered some errors, same errors that caused the time gap, that's why he was missing for more than a year. Luckily he had enough prerecorded clips for his other channel to compensate the paradox.
@@forton615 what's this other channel you speak of?
You are basically one of the pinnacle channels of my TH-cam subscriptions, and I've been watching this series since the start, it doesn't matter to me that it takes the time that it does to create, because it simply is that good.
This is the single most important thing on the internet this year. I actually had to tell myself to breath when this popped up.
Well, your sudden appearance just proved TOT actually has time machine inside his lathe... Cool.
Oh shit, I just re-watched his motorcycle clutch vid before this popped up.
Its great having you back Chris. Missed listening to you voice as you explain step by step how this amazing machine is made. Will certainly read the research paper.
Well Done
Hot damn! This is and will be outstanding
No uploads for ages... "G’day Chris here... oh by they way here is a journal article I authored while trying to figure out parts" TH-cam doesn't deserve such quality content ahaha
I've been checking every week or so for a year, this feels so good.
We've missed you
Legend tells that he would one day return. That day is finally here.
He’s back!! I’ve been binging click spring for the last week going through all the great videos. Glad to see you’re finally back chris
Awesome Chris! Just when I think that you cannot possibly be more impressive with your work and studies, you just blow those thoughts away! Thank you so much for your time and research into this, it will benefit the present generation and many future generations as well!
You have no idea how much of a breath of fresh air it is to hear "G'day, Chris here, welcome back to Clickspring."
He's back!
Whoa!! So that’s where youve been! Doing revolutionary research before continuing your build! I’m so glad you’re back and the build is back on! This will be so amazing to watch, especially since you actively contributed to this discovery! Much respect!
Cheers!!
They said it would be years.... I’m glad we could wait
Omg this is the turning point of 2020! THE RETURN OF THE KING!!!!
ABSOLUTE LEGEND..!, Your work inspires me to pick up a file and start the fabrications for my Telescope, I've put off for fear of failure.
Here's the challenge: alternate between watching Wintergatan's Marble Machine builds and Clickspring's Antikythera builds. It's okay to lose your mind.
Wintergaten's build is actually next on my list. right after i catch up on my other subs... only 1800 videos to go! (I'm bad at this.)
Add Tally Ho's rebuild on Sampson Boat Co and This Old Tony and you have my top maker channels.
@@jdwxly I'll have to check put the Samson Boat thing. For chuckles add uncle bumblefu- AvE
Add the Astro Skeleton clock to your list!
@@jdwxly already got them! Acorn to Arabella is another good boat build.
So glad to see this build continuing. Thanks for sharing your amazing work Chris. Looking forward to following along
Merry freakin' Christmas!
This exactly what we all need right now.
I am content, the warm glow of this man’s commentary lifts my spirits every time 🤓😁 as does the content.
Welcome back !
It is awesome to have you back on the build. Such attention to detail here both in the research and the construction.
Who else cried when he said “I’ll see you latah”
I didn't cry. I just got a little smoke in my eyes.
It's just sand, I'm too manly to cry.🥲
Pressed like before I even pressed play, not even ashamed to admit it. Welcome back Chris! 👍🏻
I didn’t believe how much I loved this series until it was suddenly gone. Thanks for coming back and sharing this amazing build and historical quest!
G'day Chris, we've missed you. Oh how we've missed you.
Nearly brought tears to my eyes to see my favorite series is back.
I have learned so much from you already and used it in my oun projects often, thank you
I looked at the post time and just got the chills.. I’m going to savor every second this video like the last bit of iced lemonade on a hot summers day.
This gives me hope of a Primitive Technology video coming out soon.
Don’t forget salmonella academy
Yeah, where has that slacker been hiding. ;)
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 Chris, this is a monumental contribution to human knowledge! You are even part of a cutting-edge empirical study on the topic! That *cannot* be understated! Fantastic work!
You’re the man Chris and, as a young engineering student, a huge inspiration. Keep up the killer work man.
IT'S TIME FOR "G'DAY, CHRIS HERE"!!!
Thanks for this video and information Chris. I'm looking forward to your future videos. I hope that all is well in your world.
I was just checking your channel a couple days ago to see if there was anything new. Glad to see some more!
It's finally here!
