    My VFA team was Port because of Fred Cook. Went to a few VFA finals at the Junction Oval as a 12-13 year old with friends and brothers.They were wild affairs,on and off the field.Great days!

    That’s awesome that Lloyd’s idol was super boot. His career finished before I was born but he a was one of the best forwards in the 70’s & 80’s before Lockett, Ablett & Dunstall. Kicking 70 meter drop punts with pretty good accuracy. Now guy’s like McKay from Carlton 30 meters out in front of goal snapping from where he’s standing

      That wasn't my experience. I had to do a year of high school in Adelaide in 1982 when my father was transferred there to manage a new office for 12 months. The locals I knew couldn't get enough of the VFL - and everyone had a VFL team they supported. I adopted Norwood at the time.

      @@KennyTC63 That sounds like a truly unique experience, and no doubt it would have felt like home. However I've been following the SANFL since 1972, and as Blightly once told Mike Sheahan "It was all about the Adelaide footy". We had "The Winners" on a Sunday night that showed a highlights package from across the border. The VFL scores were mentioned after the SANFL league, reserves and mini league on the news. Little to no mention in the newspaper of the VFL. We were all way too into the SANFL. For me it still is. No Crows, No Power.......the SANFL reigns supreme in our household !

    • @davidbradshaw3303
      @davidbradshaw3303 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Just shows the strength of the team. I always thought Jim was marginally better, and he was named in the forward pocket. Phil didn't make North's team of the century either. Jim was named on the bench. For the Indigenous TOC, Phil would have been up against Nicky Winmar or Syd Jackson for a half forward role. I'm not old enough to have seen Syd Jackson, but yeah I would have had Phil marginally ahead of Winmar. No way Phil knocks off Matera or Michael Long off a wing.

    • @johnd8892
      @johnd8892 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      VFA the original comp from 1871.
      A big upheaval when teams left in 1896 to form the VFL.
      Rivalry was fierce but the VFL won out with even more teams leaving the VFA for the VFL like Richmond, StKilda, North Melbourne and Footscray.
      Williamstown poaching the top Collingwood goal kicker Ron Todd was big news and attracted big crowds to Williamstown matches and helped them win multi premierships.
