  • A video which I recorded some time ago but inexplicably overlooked when uploading with a selection of Wrenn locomotives and Hornby Dublo rolling stock.
Featured: Wrenn 2-6-4 Class 4 Tank locomotive.

Any Dublo or Wrenn running session is a good one.
The sound these heavyweights make as they thunder over point work.
The wonderful smell when they warm up.
The sheer weight and presence they have when you hold them in your hand.
I saw the light a few years back now and started running these classics.
I very much enjoy all your videos.
That Bulleid is simply beautiful by the way.

These trains were (are) bulletproof, easy to maintain, lovely to look at, well engineered and built to last. Buying one of these back in the day was not only a gift to your child, but to your grandchild and with care, your great-grandchild as well!

Love these trains . Ok on close inspection they lack the detail of todays models , but they did , and still do, capture the charm of the real thing . I could watch these for ages . Love them all , but that Wrenn West Country must have cost a fair penny !

Thanks again for showing us the superiority of metal locos and coaches. Yesterday I left an ancient 2P running with a couple of Wrenn coaches and some others. I came back an hour later to find a deserted railway. The whole train had fallen off. Couplings etc. all over the place, but the Wrenn coaches were as good as new!

I'm sorry to hear that! The rule is never turn your back on a running model railway!😩 It's happened to me, the Law of Sod! I sincerely hope your trains have been through your works and are ready to resume their duties again. You are quite right though. Thank you for your comment.👍

Absolutely adore Hornby Dublo and Wrenn locomotives. I especially love the feeling of revitalizing them to strong like new runners.
Thanks for showing off that Southern Railway Spam Can! I have a Triang one but would love a Wrenn version.

Hi, Thank you very much for that endorsement. Yes they are strong runners and there is a lot of satisfaction to seeing and hearing them run. I have a few 5 pole armature motored Wrenn locos and to be honest they don't really confer any advantage over the 3 pole versions. I have found that if you need to give them some kind of 'boost' replace the iron magnet with a neodymium magnet. A quick easy and cheap solution. Works every time. Wind back on my videos and you should come across some Wrenn 'Royal Scots' and two other 'Spam Cans' 'Tavistock' and 'Lamport and Holt Line'.
      Many thanks for your comment.

@@crewelocoman5b161 Thanks for showing off your collections! Rather than replace all the magnets in my locos, I actually purchased a magnetiser from a man called Ronald Dodd. He has his own channel on youtube and shows how it works. While pricey, it was definitely worth it! It absolutely makes my locos run like new!

I have a few locos and a load of wagons, in my eyes they still look great.

Excellent! You know people moan and demand more and more detail, a retool every 5 years and every variation possible. I am happy to sit and watch these trains all day! And it's not an age thing as I'm 38. Well maybe a little lol. But there is a certain charm with these. I like the way the light catches the coaches, particularly the maroon set. I like the way that these models tend to warm up once they've been running for a few minutes and you have to back off the controller a touch. I like the way that they just work and don't fall apart if you have to pick them up. While these are definitely not standard models they have that retro charm. I see the lamps, reporting numbers, close coupling and probably a few other tweeks I have missed. I'm glad you are still uploading and as I have said before... If there was one TH-cam layout I'd like to have a play with it's this one.

Thank you so much for all your support and encouragement. I've said it before and I'll say it again, you always understand and appreciate what I'm trying to achieve here and it' something which genuinly keeps me going. You are so right in your assessment of where we are in this hobby. I love those tinplate coaches even though there's a lot wrong with them from a scale and detail point of view yet such was the magic of H.D. that whatever the compromises they still managed to look 'right' even today. That tinplate 'gloss' looks exactly like the finish I recall seeing on newly repainted/outshopped Mk 1s from back in the day.
There's your good self and like minded folk who regularly comment on my uploads and it is for all of you that will keep uploading. It is a joy for me and I relish the challenges it sometimes presents me with.

Thank you for running some of the more 'rare' Wrenn loco's. I guess that if you don't run them, and once Wrenn has faded from memory, they will end up in landfill? That's the attitude I have with my Wrenn collection and I too have some really 'rare' items.

    • @crewelocoman5b161
      @crewelocoman5b161  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

Hi Timothy, Thank you for your comment and observations. I've never been a 'mint box merchant' and I enjoy seeing these models run. All of my Wrenn are second hand all in very good to excellent condition. Some, mostly 8Fs and a few Castles, have been resprayed and re numbered with some judicious detailing added (glazed windows, front buffer beam detail including scale buffers) but the majority are as factory finished. Will Hornby-Dublo and Wrenn fade from memory? I suppose it depends on the future of the hobby? I do recall some of the disdain that was (unfairly imho) heaped on Lima back in the day. Funny thing was though that when they went out of production people were clamouring to get their hands on them again... Well done Hornby for acquiring the tooling!
