Even after all these years, the new graphics and technologies, this is still the best of the entire series. The game balance and play was positively superb, and the titan match was unbelievably fun.
to be honest i feel as tho 2142 was one of the few that really got the mix of vehicles and soldiers right, you could succeed as either one but no one was overpowered
This game has all the futuristic stuff we love: -Drop pods -Cloaking devises -Orbital bombardments -Flying bases -Battle mechs And more. The best part about it is it doesn't feel stupidly over the top. Everything feels so believable even if it's not realistic. A true masterpiece.
The tech I liked the most was the fully enclosed body armour that even covers your face, so EMP grenades are essentially flashbangs as well because it takes out your in-helmet screen with static. I thought that was bloody smart design.
This was 2 years ago so it's probably valid. It's pretty fun now though. Jets and Helis and Wingsuit are s-tier fun Moderate destructibility updates Portal is cool, mostly BF3 servers (missing several versions of BF with populated servers though) *more reliable servers It's currently my fav battlefield to play. But I hope it gets more maps and we get a new Battlefield 2142.
Even after 10 years, there's still not one game out there that gives the same experience to players as 2142 did.. Futuristic shooter done right IMO. EDIT - HAD to revisit this after 2042!
Planetside 2 is pretty good, it's like BF2142 on a "continental" scale (7km X 7km), with standard 12v12 fights all the way up to 100v100, or three way 24v24v24. Really fond memories of this game. Especially it's multi-player demo. Since grenades were an unlock introduced later, you didn't need to worry about them. So the titan finales became a nail-biting advance, clearing each bulkhead at a time to reach the reactor. Everyone packed close together behind cover. Sadly this stopped with the introduction of grenades. Someone would just plonk an ammo crate down and fling infinite grenades down the corridor.
In my opinion grenades should have been disabled for players inside of the Titan. But it's fine anyway. Battlefield 2142 is so good, I honestly have very little complaints.
SovietWomble Really didn't expect that you played this game too. Yeah, the grenades were a pain in the ass, even though I was one of the assholes that were camping inside the Titans corridors with their shield and MG, spraying down everything that moves.
This game reminds me of my childhood. I was constantly with my big brother, it is thanks to him that I discovered this game. We took turns playing all night long... We were in the middle of our carefree youth. Now he has his job and his wife and I almost never see him anymore. I miss that time terribly...

What about battlefield 1942, I missed that one because I always get into the games too late but I'm there with you guys on b2 and 2142, but I bet 1942 had it's amazing moments like in 2142 when you were jumping off the exploding ship at the end of the round or how that laser turret was unbelievablely accurate and would give me a crazy kill score down a corridor, or how in b2 you could be an anti sniper sniper, those were great moments.
I am lit. All the memories … i did everything in ghe intro on all those maps a ghousand times. If felt like a life left behind flashed before my eyes. Wow… what a time to be alive back then.

Everyone has that ONE game that they miss more than anything. That they wish they could go back to the excitement levels they had when they were playing it. This, this is that game.
The opening always brings me to tears. I know this installment of the BF franchise wasnt that popular, but if you were there to experience this game you know it had something that no other game had. Yes, it is futuristic, but its setting never sacrificed the "Fun Factor."

This is still, by far, and after all this time, the BEST intro for any game. The game itself is nothing short of amazing across the board! I still get goosebumps when I watch this intro, especially at track 2:38, when the Soldier gestures to "press on". That gesture, combined with the upbeat harmonic desperation of the music, I can't help but get teary-eyed. This is a real Gamer's Game..I would love a re-mastered release.

+Doth Weed It is actually correct. Battlefield series existed from 2002 to 2006. BF2142 was great but at the same time, EA bought DICE. Right when 2142 was finished and released, EA turned Battlefield brand to Battelfield. And we all know what happened to quality after that.

I played this beta .... and it was pretty rough in the edges to be honest , not so many CTD but missing voices , a lot of bugs , etc . However this is a amazing game and definitly one of my favs of all time ,cant wait for 2143
***** It's still EA's own fault. They can compete by NOT BEING COD. Really when Modern Warfare 2 came out Activision decided to remove dedicated servers from the pc version of CoD. No longer could people make maps themselves...even though CoD 4 was insanely popular among the map makers community. Result was that pc gamers where stuck with a connection type that was normal to consoles but didn't work for the pc. Insane lags and lots of issues as it would be hosted by the one with the fastest connection. And Activision never fixed the bugs that came with it. You couldn't play with friends half of the time as their grouping thing was broken and you couldn't look for the same server as you could before. Back then Battlefield Bad Company 2 was about to get released as well and EA did the smart thing to advertise with "We do have dedicated servers for the pc gamer". Battlefield bad company 2 won over CoD cause it didn't do stupid shit like Activision did with CoD. The Multiplayer was a lot better and more stable. And the screwed it all up with BF3. They wanted to be like CoD, no longer did they compete by providing quallity, no they wanted to compete by becoming like CoD. Smaller maps, more focus on the infantry with levels designed for just infantry warfare.......look if i want to play a game like CoD i will play CoD alright....i played battlefield for the whole war feeling with tanks and fighter jets and helicopters and everything out there. Feeling like i need to hide when a tank rolls up, or dive for cover when a helicopter approaches....that's the feel i want to have......not some filled with cheaters and hackers corridor shooter where there is absolutely no need for skill or tactics.
EA has had a long history of sucking. From legitimately evil and illegal corporate maneuvers to steal an IP from an existing development team, to tearing down a genre so that it won't compete with their current business lineups, they're very underhanded. The day they fold and go bankrupt I will run to their old corporate headquarters and take a dump in their former manager's office in celebration.
The only thing missing from Battlefield 3 and Battlefield 4 are intros like this and the dialogue "Welcome to duty". Thats it. Other then that they're pretty awesome. I wonder when they'll make Battlefield Bad Company 3. I need more Hagard.

2142 titan mode was the best storming the reactor room then running and jumping to parachute off before it blew and getting the titan survivor medal.

From the trailer it's pretty clear that we're gonna play as US-EU and PAC or at least their predecessors.
They could still add final stand elements to the game we havent had alpha or beta yet.

The opening always brings me to tears. I know this installment of the BF franchise wasnt that popular, but if you were there to experience this game you know it had something that no other game had.
Yes, it is futuristic, but its setting never sacrificed the "Fun Factor."

Everytime the soldier signals to move in, i remember i allways played the scene like i was the soldier, good memories. One of my best childhood game.

This is still, by far, and after all this time, the BEST intro for any game. The game itself is nothing short of amazing across the board! I still get goosebumps when I watch this intro, especially at track 2:38, when the Soldier gestures to "press on". That gesture, combined with the upbeat harmonic desperation of the music, I can't help but get teary-eyed. This is a real Gamer's Game..I would love a re-mastered release.

Right when 2142 was finished and released, EA turned Battlefield brand to Battelfield. And we all know what happened to quality after that.

I played this beta .... and it was pretty rough in the edges to be honest , not so many CTD but missing voices , a lot of bugs , etc . However this is a amazing game and definitly one of my favs of all time ,cant wait for 2143

It's still EA's own fault. They can compete by NOT BEING COD. Really when Modern Warfare 2 came out Activision decided to remove dedicated servers from the pc version of CoD. No longer could people make maps themselves...even though CoD 4 was insanely popular among the map makers community. Result was that pc gamers where stuck with a connection type that was normal to consoles but didn't work for the pc. Insane lags and lots of issues as it would be hosted by the one with the fastest connection. And Activision never fixed the bugs that came with it. You couldn't play with friends half of the time as their grouping thing was broken and you couldn't look for the same server as you could before.
Back then Battlefield Bad Company 2 was about to get released as well and EA did the smart thing to advertise with "We do have dedicated servers for the pc gamer". Battlefield bad company 2 won over CoD cause it didn't do stupid shit like Activision did with CoD. The Multiplayer was a lot better and more stable.
And the screwed it all up with BF3. They wanted to be like CoD, no longer did they compete by providing quallity, no they wanted to compete by becoming like CoD. Smaller maps, more focus on the infantry with levels designed for just infantry warfare.......look if i want to play a game like CoD i will play CoD alright....i played battlefield for the whole war feeling with tanks and fighter jets and helicopters and everything out there. Feeling like i need to hide when a tank rolls up, or dive for cover when a helicopter approaches....that's the feel i want to have......not some filled with cheaters and hackers corridor shooter where there is absolutely no need for skill or tactics.
EA has had a long history of sucking. From legitimately evil and illegal corporate maneuvers to steal an IP from an existing development team, to tearing down a genre so that it won't compete with their current business lineups, they're very underhanded. The day they fold and go bankrupt I will run to their old corporate headquarters and take a dump in their former manager's office in celebration.

Anyone who's working on the new Battlefield games should be required to have at least 20 hours of BF2142 and/or BF2 before building a BF game.
The only thing missing from Battlefield 3 and Battlefield 4 are intros like this and the dialogue "Welcome to duty". Thats it. Other then that they're pretty awesome. I wonder when they'll make Battlefield Bad Company 3. I need more Hagard.
