Holy moly, that's one of, if not THE, best struck 1921 Peace I've ever seen
I've actually seen ONE even stronger, and I've probably seen over a hundred at this point, it was raw in an online auction, but unfortunately I don't buy raw online. It's going to be a goal to upgrade mine to that level.
Yeah, that's amazing. I collect 1921 Peace Dollars, but I'll never have anything higher than a straight 65, I'm sure. The + is amazing.

Beautiful coins, especially the Peace dollars. The '21 is the nicest I've seen.
Nice 21 peace. Definitely got the plus on both the strike and clean cheek. The 28 peace dollar is a 65 in the rough. Had a customer years ago with a 1900-O/Cc Morgan in a PCGS 64 holder with a similar situation. Back has an area with displeasing toning over a section of the otherwise untoned gemmy coin. Sent it for conservation and they removed the toning and it came back in a NGC 65+ holder. Ya never know but I think if it can be conserved you’ll get that grade bump or at least a plus.
Strike doesn't seem to affect the grade. I've seen flatly struck MS66.

Could you get the 1928 Peace "conserved" in the hopes of getting stain removed?

You get it conserved it bumps to a 65 all day
I agree with getting it conserved. What if funny is they seem to be a lot more lenient on grading coins they have conserved than other coins. Kind of like they want to give you a bump to convince you that the conservation was merited whether it was or not.

First off as someone who submits occasionally, I love your unboxing videos and commentary. I try to guess the grade before you show it. On the 28 I was guessing 66 easily but I figured they’d drop it to 65 for the stain on reverse. A 64 was highway robbery on that. Terrible. The 65+ was probably warranted on the 21. You made out good on that one. Love that grade for that. Only 1365 graded 65 or higher. As someone who looked a long time for one and finally found one I liked for a reasonable price, almost all of them have problems and those are really rare in that unmarked condition. Should sell for around 3k.

I always like the adjective ‘disturbance’ to describe the marks on the the obverse field on the 21. The 21 is a superior coin mainly for the strike, as soon as I saw it I just knew it would be at least a 65, on the 28 I think that unsightly blemish on the reverse held it back.... in my opinion.
I don't know why but I don't come across many McKinley dollars. It's nice to see one here. I completely agree about the Pan-Pacific Expo coins. I don't think there's any of those I don't really like. I like peace dollars, but I love the 1921 and that one is beautiful. Thank you for sharing those!
Ben, this might be one of those examples that goes for significantly more than face value. Not a guarantee, but people seem to really like the very "white" examples, and the strike on this is crazy. Might even consider sending it in to-- and bear with me here-- CAC.

Express, you got screwed. Nice coins
I would strongly consider NCS conservation for the 28. They may be able to remove the stain and it might grade higher. I used it to remove a red spot on a gold commemorative and it was graded a 70 after the conservation.
The 28 has better luster too
I said the 1921 peace was 65 and the 1928 was 64+. The luster on the 1928 seems more flashy where as the 1921 is more satiny and maybe more white? About the same except for the toning spots. Exceptional examples. I have owned some 1921 peace dollars when prices were lower and I was a beginner collector but the 1928 I have wanted in high grade for a long time, it's one of my bucket list coins in 63 or maybe 64

Ben, I have to respectfully disagree on the McKinley. It doesn't look prooflike to me. It looks like it has a lot of original mint luster. Great looking coin.
On the 1928 Peace, I think the stain on the reverse hurt it. It would probably be worth sending it in to their conservation service and then have them regrade it.
Every coin we send in we all want a better grade. That Panama coin looks like Ty Cobb on the obverse
My first thought as well.
I also have a 21 peace in 65+, the prices have gone way up, got mine for $2150 and one sold recently for almost $6000.

I have a certified PL Mckinley. It looks a lot different. Really much more PL. But yours is nice.
That coin is definitely net graded 1 point from that almost rust looking spot, I'd acetone or dip and resubmit personally. (I'm also kind of proud I guessed only the McKinley wrong, I guessed 63 on that for some reason... Also not counting the + on the 21, I just guessed 65)

Tbh i think you got very lucky with the 21 peace dollar. The 28 is easily a higher grade coin. Once again, a good reason why i don't want to deal with NGC.
That 21 Peace is very nice with an excellent strike! The market for those is really hot right now.
I would pay premium 64 money for that 28 any day of the week.
That 28 should had been a 5, it's that blemish on the reverse that knocked it down but all are beautiful coins thx for sharing great video enjoyed it 😀

The stain mark on the 28 peace looks like lamination to me
I’m sure it affected the grade
Also as you pointed out it’s a much bigger deal the 21 is contact free being high relief so it gets much higher marks as it’s exponentially tougher to find so clean

What’s next like 65+-++ meaning it’s on the lower end of the 65+ but on the higher end of the lower end of the higher end plus grade ? Ie 65.7785
But if you crack and resubmit maybe it comes back 65. Maybe 66

Ahhhh yes ... I forgot The uselessness of population reports. People crack and therefore that coins pop reduces by 1, but PCGS/NGC isn’t aware it’s been cracked
So you see a coin is pop 50 in 65 when it could be a pop 20 because so many people keep cracking and resubmitting the same coins
Yes - you can submit the old cert so they remove from the data base ... but that doesn’t happen all the time . In fact I’d say it doesn’t happen often at all

Beautiful coins! IMHO, I don't think the 1928 should be an MS65 precisely because of the stain (?) on the reverse. I think it got it's "terminal grade" or highest grade it will get, unless it is a good candidate for conservation. Thanks for your most excellent content! :)
Having seen them both in the flesh, I'd say the 28 had better eye appeal; stellar luster. Still waiting for the phone to ring......

graded 1921 Peace ✌ dollar for my collection for bit under $200, not the price
for those highly graded mint ones. But they

21 peace are super difficult to grade for me. The hair details are just so flat that it throws me off

I love that 1928 Peace. Do you think it would go MS65 had you sent to the conservation service? By The Way, it’s way undervalued but it’s always been like that for Peace dollars
Are you sure you get the best graders on the express service? I was under the understanding that on express your coins take precedence over economy service but aren't looked at by a specific set of graders skills.
I have so many ideas that could make these companies producing products that we actually want with services and goods we acutely need.
I don't feel like these companies have people like us in the drivers seat telling them what or how we want things. One of the biggest problems being the us mint of course.

The area on the reverse is terminal. It won't come out. That being said the coin is worth close to 65 money. Very nice. A 65+ all day without the reverse issue. PNG dealer.

So, four coins and you are thinking that three are undergraded. Is NGC too tough? Is tough grading good or bad for the coin world?
