hi, I started altering...following some tutorials, loving the art and loving the game.
I have a problem with destroying/upkeeping my brushes. does anyone knows a good article or tutorial to help me with that? already thnx

Sorry for getting back to you so late! Synthetic brushes usually wear out faster than natural hair brushes do, and it usually shows in the price. I'm a DIY kind of artist and I can fully say that even worn brushes can be used for certain effects. The most common issue people have when starting out is that they buy into brushes too big or "blobby", like most brushes in starter kits are. I try to get the thinnest and smallest brushes, usually with a flat shape rather than a pointy tip. Hope it helps!

Hey your alters are amazing and you're truly an inspiration for altering. I did have some questions though. It seems like a lot of people recommend thinning the paints? Do you do that, and if so how? Also When I go to paint on my card it seems like whenever I try to paint over a spot I've painted on it erases the paint underneath it. Am I not waiting for it to dry long enough or is my paint bad or is it because I'm not thinning it? Also it seems like you don't wait long before painting over previous layers. Is that because of how sped up it is or does the paint just dry relatively fast? Anyway, thanks for the help and keep on doing what you do

Thinning acrylics is simply adding a bit more water to your brush and/or paint mixture. Heavier paint application can build up and other artists warn about too much texture appearing on your finished piece.

Question for the materials you use. I've seen some people use eraser is there any reason you prefer sandpaper?
Also, someone mentioned a varnish spray to give a similar sheen all across the card as well as keep the acrylic on. Have you heard of or tried this?
(Asking because I am starting to get into altering some swamps and other lands and wanted to know other materials I may need).

Sorry for getting back to you so late! I've never tried eraser, but I can imagine it could work! As for varnish, I find it tricky as some varnishes are very liquid-ish and others offer matte/glossy finishes. Either way I feel it might make the card look different. I do without, trusting that sleeving it up is protection enough.

@@PieterSneep thanks! I've been experimenting around since the comment. The hardest part is getting colors right not really the materials I guess haha. erasing has been working fine so far though!
