Sometimes I find myself forgetting that these are merely test flights; that all of the perceived triumphs and failures are little more than data points. I'm quite certain that one day a robust, reusable, and most importantly safe, spacecraft will emerge from all this testing. And frankly I can hardly wait what future awaits Starship!
FYI. In respect of the storage tanks, irrespective of what they will ultimately contain, It’s normal to fill pressure vessels with dry nitrogen when being transported. This is to prevent “ atmospheric air” containing moisture to enter and cause corrosion . The nitrogen stickers are to warn that the vessel contains suffocating gas and to ensure operatives are not overcome if the filling gas is vented direct to atmosphere
For a while I was afraid it wouldn't happen. I was very relieved to hear that work continues at the orbital launch mount. It looks like one more 'bay' will shortly be dismounted. I'm grateful these updates and the rest of the videos here are available. These folks do great work.
Ship 31 receiving almost catastrophic burning/warping in the areas SpaceX removed TPS tiles to test for catching points. They can't reuse a ship if thats going to happen. So has SpaceX made any changes to protect Ship 33 from that same damage?
They haven't removed tiles from ship 33 since it won't be caught (they removed them on 31 to see what would happen half expecting to lose the vehicle and won't do the same with 33), and they might just slap the tiles with the tower arms on ship 34 to assess the damage when it's caught. It's possible that the solution might involve transpiration cooling that region like Elon mentioned after flight 6
15:47 Ryan goes from “still work to be done” to “ could go through” to “ it’s gonna go through no matter what, elons is gonna get starbase Texas” in a matter of seconds lol
Hard to believe we're talking about Flight 9 already. F7 - either right before or right after New Year. F8 before end of January. Flights will quickly progress from 4 wk to 3 wk to even 2.5 wk intervals. Production pace will increase accordingly.
How crazy is it to say that it’s just weeks apart the next flight. I think StarBase will try and get each flight ready 3 days faster than the last flight. When it is up to 4 weeks from each flight it will do flight a week.
Yeah. I’m thinking that SpaceX wants to establish the principle and get the regulatory groundwork in place for about 2 flights a month well in advance of actually needing it. Maybe about this time next year, or next October or November if we’re really lucky, we might be getting to that sort of cadence but for the first half of next year I don’t think we’ll see anything like 2 a month. Assuming the 25-per-year license is approved (it isn’t yet is it?) my guess is that we’ll see something like 15 flights from Boca Chica in 2025. That would still be very impressive and, with that more than tripling the number of flights we’ve seen so far, should really push Starship development forward a lot. (Just look at how much progress has already been made from IFT-1 to IFT-6; imagine where another 15 test flights could get us.)
Awesome video! I still don't understand how the Ship gets on the test fire stand. Is there any video or pictures of them moving it on or off the flame trench? Do they still test F9 boosters like they are Ships (cryo, thrust sim, etc)? I can see during development but with desired launch cadence, commodities might be a limiting factor.
They just roll it over the flame trench with the SPMTs. Falcon 9s still get cryo and then static fire before their first flight at McGregor, then they don't get any of that afterwards
Elon would just pronounce it so it rhymes with scarcity for the lols. And there already is one near Moscow. Not to mention Arkansas and the Philippines.
I think flight 8 will be a cople of mounth after 7 given they probably need a new launch licence from FAA. I cant imagine anything else than a orbital flight for 8.
I have been away for a while so please forgive me if this question seems dumb. Ship 35 (?) has an extra ring. Is this ship still capable of being loaded with propellant on Pad A or will Space X need to load it on Pad B? I have no idea if the SQD on Pad A will be able to mate with this extra tall ship. I will appreciate if anyone can clear this up for me. Apart from that I wish everyone a wonderful Christmas and new year
There's no way that it would survive reentry sticking out like that. I think they'll do some kind of system where the catch pins will be completely hidden on the leeward side during reentry and only flip out into the catch position just before the catch during the flip/landing burn.
Interesting that they would want to incorporate other than to get away from the control of the county judge or commissioners. They could have their own police force so they wouldn't have to get approval from the sheriff but there are compliance issues with state election laws. In other words, they will have bureaucrats to deal with which probably won't be a big deal with SpaceX since they have unlimited money.
With Elon's demonstrated opposition to paying taxes as well as fair, unbiased electipns i wonder who will be expected to provide social services a city would normally provide to its constituents?
Opposition? They guy who paid 11 billion in taxes? Is everything you think and say so demonstrably stupid? I mean it's clear you're not terribly bright or honest, but even by accident? Ever? Tell me the sky is blue so you can be right about something at least once.. Just to know what it's like.

You seem to have forgotten that SpaceX plans to catch both the boosters and the ships next year. So maybe they only need to build a major booster or ship redesign every 2 to 3 months. Early next year they will begin flying with starlink v2 payloads. They also have plans for the V2 version of the booster as well as V3 versions of the raptor engines to test next year. SpaceX also needs to build both tanker and tanker-refill versions of the ship to support the NASA moon landing contract and demonstrate on-orbit tanker refueling. So lots of launches next year. btw: no need to be so rude and insulting.
@@datamatters8 are we sure about that? the current variant of starship has not been caught. they're not the correct versions, and are not fully ready for continued operation. hell - the booster they already caught isn't being used yet. development just doesn't happen that fast.
25 flights, not 25 new ships. For all your undermining how "smart" people aren't, you seem to conflate 2 fundamentally different things. If SpaceX is fully capable of catching and reusing rockets, then that would make them reasonably capable of launching/relaunching with a 2 week cadence. You only insult your own intelligence with this assertion.
@@Rockethead293 We should bear in mind that the statement was "up to 25 flights", meaning that they would have a maximum of 25 flights. This implies that they are hopeful they will be able to catch starships within a year, which would increase how many flights they can reasonably do. It doesn't mean they will achieve 25 flights, but it does mean that they are hoping to increase the amount of flights compared to this year
1. 25 is just a number they're shooting for, and not at all guaranteed. "Up to 25" 2. While reuse might not always happen, it will make this more achievable. Hope this helps!

Doubling up those seams with an extra layer of steel might solve that warping issue so i wouldn't be too worried about that uet.

25 test flights a year in 2025 will require a flight every 2-3 weeks. Flight 7 on 1/11, 8 also in January. Kick ass and take names, SpaceX!

We don't know
I hope they will call it Starcity :)

About flight eight, since they apllied for 25 launches on 2025 should end of january be a good date
When will the teststands get FSD?
I don't even think the engines installed on a the same ship are exactly identical.
The drones in NJ can’t be aliens or they’d be all over Starbase.

Block 2 ships can be launched from pad A without modifications. The QD port is still at the same height
Block 2 ships (so S33 and onwards) are one ring taller, but it's added in the propellant tanks so the QD is still at the same height as the SQD.
Flight 8 will be on Jan. 20th
The ship catching hardware is surely gonna get absolutely cooked with how far out it will stick, I wonder what they will do to mitigate that
