    In anticipation for the newest season of sharur, I have sold all of my audio equipment and have been spending my days meditating on a mountain top listening to all the beautiful music I can imagine with my mind. No more suffering, no more distortions. Peace

      Also unironically, this is literally my view on audiophiles/music listening too, most of them are so snooty but also weirdly larpy and consumeristic with their magic boxes that cost 4000$ even though they spend much more time listening to music on their 200$ bluetooth headphones, which is fine, but why the fuck are you talking to a salesperson about what overpriced audioquest silver speaker cables best tonaly match your setup? They have no Idea what they are talking about but because all of their audiophile buddies are there they have an auditory circle jerk talking about all of the tonal notes of the music, each trying to flex their ear training by using all the audiophile words they can while listening to something stupid like a bluegrass cover of an eagles song or something because theyve been told it sounds good and are one of the universally approved audiophile bands so they can further flex how cultured they are.
      I had an audioquest salesperson tell me to my face a week ago that he had to change his already 1000$ speaker wires to 2500$ ones because the sibilance "ruined" too many songs for him. I smiled and continued the conversation and didnt critisize him to his face because im not autistic but holy shit, shut the fuck up and leave me alone. I would literally start a silver mine and process my own cables before I would ever buy an audioquest product. Me asking about the capabilities of these cables actually visibly pissed off the three customers at the audioquest desk, as if just the possibility that I might not be supportive of them was enough for their snooty audiophile hackles to go up, its literally a cult.

      Its all about intention, lots of people in the community are fine but the amount of mid-wits looking external approval from an "approved" audiophile is so cringe to me. Like my neighbour is 50-something and has a 30,000$ focal sorround system that for a sound system sounds amazing, and even from a music listening perspective sounds pretty great, but putting on my audiphile hat I told him my honest opinion about how tonally aggresive the speakers sound and how it wasnt to my taste, and you could see that it really affected the way he felt about the speakers. To me, I wouldnt buy a system like that unless it sounded exactly how I want it to and anything anyone could say about it wouldnt deminish the enjoyment I take from it. Him and I went to an audiophile storefront and we listened to a setup with some 6000$ bookself speakers that really impressed me, and immediately my neighbour went over to the owner of the shop (who he is friends with (probably because of the 30,000$)) and asked "how do these compare to my setup and should I buy them" like one of the hundreds of bots in the comments section of a youtube audiophile show asking a super specific and personalised question because you can tell they dont trust themselves to make a "good" decision about audio, but for some reason to them this random dude they found on here automatically does because he uses all of the words correctly? No its because this rando is one of the few audiophiles that has the confidence to put an actual opinion out there, unfortunatly for you this rando wants you to buy from whoever pays him the most so this hypothetical person now gets to own a hifiman product lmao.
      If youre wondering my neighbour didnt buy them because the guy told him not to, not for any other reason. Crazy to me

    • @extramisc_etc
      @extramisc_etc 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      There was an entire other comment with my unironic opinion on audio/audiophiles that is similar to yours, but with sprinklings of audioquest representing everything I hate in audio but I guess it was too salacious because its gone. Essentially, most audiophiles Ive met are snooty, consumerist, and most/all opinions they have are based on whether others "in the know" will agree with them, and not whether it is measurably better or they prefer something in an ab test, and so they are intellectually incestuous. Audioquest is, and many pockets of audiophile culture are, literally a cult.
      I had an audioquest sales person tell me to my face that he had to replace his already 1000$ speaker cables in his home rig to 2500$ ones because the sibilance was overwhelming him on some songs. Oh my god.
      I would literally start a silver mine and process my own cables before I would ever buy an audioquest product.

      @@extramisc_etc hd599 does the job for me and honestly people who (even tho factually correct) tell me it's mid at best can fuck right off. not to mention the accoustics rabbit hole you can fall in. im not getting a phd just to argue with people online. a hobby is good for you only and only if you can afford it and learn to enjoy it despite people trying to slander you for not having the top shelf stuff. dont get me wrong learning is the best part of having a interest but if you have to sell your car just because some youtuber/critique told you it's worth it then it means this is no hobby rather than you forcing yourself into a community just to boost your ego. go outside form a friendship and you'll feel genuinely happiness instead of the false happiness achieved by trying to impress someone you will (most likely) never meet.

    I'm not as sensitive to audio quality as you are, but I had similar thoughts 11 years ago during my senior year of high school. The enjoyment I get from audio comes from listening to my new favorite songs, rather than constantly seeking "the next best thing" in audio. Surprisingly, a $9 Panasonic IEM brought me the most joy in my life. I'm tired of corporate greed, misinformation, and hype. I tried top-of-the-line 64 Audio equipment and never understood how people could enjoy that boring, clinical, and artificial sound. The Airpods Pro 2 are honestly very enjoyable most of the time, and the Truthears Nova is great too. When I bought the Thieaudio Oracle for general PC use, I never expected it to somehow change my life, I just wanted it to sound decent enough to make me forget about the gear I'm using, and it's been great for that.

    • @Coolhand69
      @Coolhand69 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yup I just use my AirPod pro 2 and that’s good enough. My novas just were not worth the hassle when my AirPods have a similarly good sound, give or take in a few categories, but overall similarly good. Starting to think IEM is useless if you don’t have to worry about leaking noise. High end speakers are just the best.

    The best way to have audio as hobby is to get something that covers your bases in terms of audio quality and comfort and then move on until it's time in few years to pick up another piece. Essentially exit the game for large periods at a time.

    Finally, a really good perspective from Sharur. You addressed something in this video that was missing from your prior videos: PERSPECTIVE. Just because something is "trash" in audio quality doesn’t mean it's limited. Just like you said, sometimes trading audio quality for convenience is sometimes a thing too. It just depends on the person, their lifestyle, and what they value. One size does not fit all, and you addressed it. You sir, are GROWING 🙌

    You can only use 256 Kbps SBC on Windows AFAIK unless the wireless headphone has its own dongle and drivers (like Maxwell). The lossy aspect isn't that meaningful in practice. I think it would be barely audible for most people. The real issue is the latency, which is something more people would notice and obviously makes them useless in a professional setting.

    All that i care in headphones is that they are not to bright. So if they don't have extended treble after the Harman hump (4k), they will be good enough for me. Many of the headphones that have hump at 5 or 6k they are just scary bright to me and are unenjoyable .

    I think something needs to be said about how consumer audio quality has increased dramatically in the last 20 years. If you look at the frequency response of the new wireless earbuds the big brands are using, the tuning of them is usually much much better than what people might have been using some years ago. In a min-maxing perspective I really think the average person would be more than satisfied with those and that any extra time the average consumer could spend trying to research to find something objectively better would result in mostly wasted time as they probably aren't going to realise much of a difference anyway or have it be realised into a higher level of music enjoyment.
    If I didn't start this hobby, I would have still been enjoying music, so I sometimes think I might be the same way - but at the same time I don't regret it all. Some of the bs I believed in the past I do regret and the associated time I lost from it, but I've also had a lot of good experiences too and have experienced much higher sound quality than I had in the past - overall it's mostly been positive. Maybe I could have been spending my time in a more fulfilling way, but that goes with everything I do - I could have also been spending it in a worse way as well. In a way, we're only able to look back at this hobby like this because we went through this experience.
    I'm at the point where I've mostly tapered off with it all, because I don't think there is much else I can do to make it worthwhile for me and I've moved onto other hobbies where I can gain more value with a lot less time. I still keep up with things but it's not really my primary hobby anymore.
    Also, I think in terms of your points about obsession and how it limits you from the simple enjoyment of the comparatively diminutive gear that we might have used in the past as well, luxury is often times a weakness. When we increase the quality of what we own, we often become dependent on it as we can't go back to lesser quality things without being aware of the lower quality, as we've largely adapted to stuff of higher quality as our current norm. Once you maintain some kind of lifestyle inflation for a period of time it's hard to go back and high quality audio in this case could be considered a type of lifestyle inflation. I try to avoid lifestyle inflation where possible, but it all depends on what you consider important. I don't think it's necessarily bad to strive for high quality stuff, provided you're selective about what matters to you.

    Bluetooth is okay, Ldac compared to wired mostly ruins the bass response and some fine details in the mids. If you need bluetooth on-the-go, you can't hear these details regardless.

  • @JessicaFEREM
    @JessicaFEREM 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    If you're going to use bluetooth, aim to use the highest codec you can at the very least.
    you're probably going to need a BT transmitter to get anything above AAC from a lot of devices sadly.

    • @JessicaFEREM
      @JessicaFEREM 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I still prefer my Bose QC15's because they don't hurt my ears, the good headphones I've tried end up giving me a headache after a few hours. I think it's more about the vibe quality to most people outside audiophile circles, as long as it vibes they're good.
    at least it's not the sony WH-1000 series those are not much better than dollar store headphones in terms of sound quality.

    most "music" is not worth it, created by them like in 1984, amen rhythm in everything, what's the point of mastering something like that? it's like movies with all kinds of guns, how many guns have you already seen? how many movies had somebody with a gun on the poster? there is no value, same with music
    actually, bt/compression created a problem which didn't exist in 2000, when you had Discman and good Sony earphones you had a higher tier than now with bt and compressed data from host, you were connected by wire straight to 700MB uncompressed 44100 16b, now it's more like they are trying to recreate that around what they had already and they trying to make it premium - there is nothing premium about it, straight wire, a lot of data and that's it.
