    The description of this video has links to some playlists I've made for Basic Soldering. I also added some links to help you find items that are similar to what I'm using in this video.

    I've been soldering here and there for years, never being good in it though. God, had I these videos 15 years ago that would have saved me such a lot of frustration. Thanks for putting that together!

    We can also use painters tape if blue tack is not avaliable. I am by far successful in having clean soldered smd ic and parts!

      I've tried using tape before trying blue tack, but it kept flipping the tiny parts. And tips you can share to prevent that?

    Excellent video for Americans. Other SMT videos are with a thick GB accent, and reference to solder and cleaner that are available only in GB. Not on Amazon.
    Your instructions are clear with handy hints.
    What guage solder wire do you use?

    • @HowDoYouDIY
      @HowDoYouDIY  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! The solder that I have right now is 1mm I think, but it's thicker than what should be used for SMT parts. It's easy for me to accidentally add too much. 0.5mm would be better.

      It does seem to evaporate quickly, but it's still nice to use.

    Any good techniques to fix damaged boards from trying to solder without watching your videos 🤦‍♂️. I was trying to solder a new hdmi port and ruined the pads from getting it too hot trying to desolder.

    Can a surface mount component be replaced by a component with pins?

  • @BimoPradana

    Wow, if only I had subscribed to your channel earlier! Can I ask for your opinion?
    I have a mouse, and its micro switch is worn out (I've been using the mouse for more than 5 years), so I'm going to replace the switch. However, when I was removing the original switch by desoldering it, some "copper" on the motherboard got lifted as well.
    Is there a way to reattach the copper to the mouse motherboard?
    I'm not sure what the term for "copper" on the motherboard is. It's located beneath the soldering iron.

    I wish I had seen this before I tried doing a Surface Mount Fuse replacement. I ended up ruining a board completely because I was trying to do it wrong.

    How can I keep still a small small cap

    • @HowDoYouDIY
      @HowDoYouDIY  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      In this video I show a couple ways you can try. If the board is small, you can use the string trick. Or you can use the blu tack trick.

    • @HonieFlakes
      @HonieFlakes 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@HowDoYouDIY what if the size of cap is like 008004

    • @HowDoYouDIY
      @HowDoYouDIY  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oooo, that's a tough one to answer. I've never even thought about working with parts that small. The string trick I used wouldn't work with those. The blu tack might work? Or it might just cause issues instead. I also thing that some type of machine would be needed. I'll think about other options, but I'm not sure that I'll have any good ideas.
      You've got me curious about how to do that.

    • @HonieFlakes
      @HonieFlakes 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No worries I was watching vids to learn never done this before and I'm attempting a difficult job I managed to remove the chip clean solder added solder and stuff but lost 3 decoupling caps but they not needed but would like to put it back.
      Also the ic chip has pads on bottom and side do both have to have a solder connection or just bottom? Cuz it's on bottom atm with some both connected the little copper pads on side of chip and the bottom but still no power

    • @HowDoYouDIY
      @HowDoYouDIY  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think that depends on the board design. It's possible that if there are copper pads in both places, both may need to be soldered. I can't say for sure though.
