Ardent Race on my downcountry bike. Fast rolling, decent traction in the dusty loose over hard here in SoCal. Plus I get the thrill of almost dying everytime I try to PR a downhill Strava section.
Perfect timing. I was looking at a Ranger in the back and Trail Boss upfront but I think I will check out the Riddler. I went through so many combos before I found the right ones but Specialized discontinued the Captains so I’m on the search again.
Continental race kings are the bets tires i have used to this day. Maxxis has really solid protaction and shwalbe has amazing grip but the race king is a mix of both. And coming in at 605gr (for the 29er) it's lighter than it's competition.
I just asked a question about that tire, and right below mine I see your comment lol. How does it do on asphalt, I'll be using my bike to do the Florida Coast to Coast trail which is pretty much all asphalt riding, but normally I also do some light to moderate trail riding. Blue trails to maybe a red trail from time to time, not a teenager and I'm new getting into the sport so I don't to anything 'too' sketchy.
Sooo many tires! dhr ii 2.4 F / rekon 2.4 R Just rode Demo. Flow & Brail yesterday; combo rocks! 3,750 vert and felt slipper lite. Using this setup on the Mt Rose to Toads wild ride 13 hour tahoe death ride in Sept!
Running Schwalbe Rocket Ron 2.8 front and back on my Open One+ in northern California. Really surprised it wasn't mentioned. Great tires. Ride hard both down and up blue / black trails at Mt. Tamalpais, and no flats, excellent grip, and rolls **fast**.
Another informative video, thanks guys, got a lot out of your Maxxis video, iam changing to tubeless ( ikon) to ardent race, exo 3C Maxspeed 2.35. Hope it works out, iam green to mtb.. Hakuna Matata Zach ✌️🇦🇺
I’m using Nobby Nic front and Rocket Ron rear on my old 26 xc front right now, I'm absolutely fine now, I'm thinking about switching to Ray/Ralph setup for spring/summer 😎👍🏻
I know this is an older video but I use a Racing Ray (29x2.35) upfront and and a Racing Ralph (29x2.25) in the rear. I have a Cannondale F29 Carbon 3 and I have been using Schwalbe tires for nearly 10 years on this bike and my previous Flash 29. And I ride mainly XC.

Mezcals should work great. I have them on my XC hardtail which I mainly ride on the road. Another big benefit of the continuous center tread is that there is no humming noise on the road which is pretty refreshing.
@@Trhuster My next setup ill try those out, I've got aspens at the moment. also thinking of pairing a forecaster front with aspen at the back. It's quite a good all round tyre
It's a dirt jump tire, but the Schwalbe Billy Bonkers with tan sidewalls and 495g weight is very impressive. Considering slapping a couple on my Cannondale flash that I use mainly for pave and hardpack. Check it out!
I ran some rocket rons and found them to be super fast with decent grip, and really light! Really liked RoRo for hardpack and gravel, also did well in wet. With sharp rocky terrain though the nobs where ripping off. Had to move on to another combo that would hold up to where I ride.
The kevlar beaded ones came stock on my 2016 spark and I've been riding Ron's ever since. Great tyre. Find it has the perfect balance between speed and traction. IMO, anyway...
I still use a pair of Schwalbe Lil' Alberts in 26x2.1, I am looking forward to a new bike soon so I can slap some of this new rubber on some larger wheels!
I have wtb ranger 2.25 front and rear and they are great in dry and have realy good puncture resistance but when it comes to mud your dead. Literly no tractio and a lot of mud is sticking to it plus they are heavy for a cross country bike wich I have. After all great for dry and good puncture resistance but a bit heavy for xc and terible at clearing mud and giving traction in mud
I rode schwalbe but they sweat a lot more thru the sidewalls then maxxis. The schwalbes were leaking a lot. Were the Maxxis are solid tight. But I wanna try the new schwalbe in the new compounds. Maybe they are now more solid
Any recommendations for the Florida trails? Lots of sand, leaves, roots, steep uphills and downhills, tight corners.. I'd like to get some speed, but also grip going up, down, and on the corners. Thanks! I can only for up to a 2.2 on 29.
Man their truly is no do it all tire, just picked up a 2018 Giant Talon 29" hard tail for a great price on Marketplace. It has a Maxxis Rekon on the front and some Specialized super aggressive tire on the back. My issue is this bike will probably be used 75% on asphalt trails and I'm going to be keeping up with road bikes :-/ I have been able to keep up with them on a 4" fat fire 24 speed so I'm capable, just trying to find that "Perfect" tire that will give me low rolling resistance but just enough traction to do mild to moderate trail riding. ***When I say keep up with them, I mean they were coasting looking at the scenery and I was dying, pleading with my bike 'Come on Baby, come on baby, we got this.'*** Zooming in on the Continental Cross King or Continental Race King tires, any feedback on those two? Hi good day .... and have a great day ahead. .... just want to ask about vittoria mezcal lll tires ..... any opinion about this tires? I'm planning to buy over maxxis and Continental xking ..... hope you can help me on this one .... thanks in advance
I think trail boss is best all round grip roll and light weight. If u want super grip dhr2, if you want fast rolling and keep it maxxis then go ardent.
Working on a new Ibis Ripley build for mostly Michigan/Midwest (80%hardpack, roots, some sand patches) what combo would you recommend ? Looking for grippier but still fast in 2.4/2.35 for 27id wheels, not racing but like to go fast up & down, been on rocket Ron's speedgrip but I push their limits already on a XC hardtail..
Im a beginner rider, (only have had my MTB for about two months) and the tread on the rear tire is already worn. If i got lightweight fast rolling tires,am i more likely to get pinch flats on large drops and hucks?
Yes. You will get more pinch flats on lightweight XC tires if you try to ride them like trail tires. Try not to skid; especially on pavement. Some tires, like the Schwalbes, wear more quickly because they use softer compounds; but they grip really well. There’s always a trade off between weight and durability.
@Google Account I out ride everyone I know on my top fuel with the exception of one person and he was a pro motocross racer. Drops rock gardens bike park you name it. Not one problem bro. Not one.
That my friend is a Revel Rascal. Phenomenal newer brand that has come in swinging with some top notch carbon bikes. You'll see plenty of content from us around the brand soon.
I love the Vittoria Mezcals for a multi purpose tire. Not a great mud or sand tire, but on dry to mixed and rooty conditions, I have not ridden a tire yet that has pretty good grip, great durability, and be a super fast rolling tire all in one package. Definitely want to try the Teravails though
If you talk about the nobby nic, which one do you mean? Superground speedgrip, super trail speedgrip or super trail soft. I'm riding a XC bike. Most of the year I ride XC trails, but a few times a year i go to the mountains and do a lot of single trail tracks. During winter I also ride in the mud. So grip as well as rolling resistance are an important factor for me. Therefore, I was thinking of putting a super trail soft on the front wheel and a superground speedgrip on the rear. Do you think that's a good choice?
How do you like the Mezcal? I'm thinking my next tires will be Mezcal F/R. Most of my trails are hard packed/dry/and some tree roots. I avoid muddy conditions and I don't have enough downhill stuff near me to warrant heavy treads.
