Shield is one of those mechanics that is easy to understand on a surface level, but the mindgames that emerge around its existence and the risk/reward that emerges are one of my favorite things about high-level UNI.
an issue i had been running into when trying to shield was pressing a direction and D and figuring out the timing to not get locked out of cr shield, stand shield, or concentrate. hearing you say you can only switch to shield after 16 frames makes so much sense. I guess i need to be holding 1 slightly before pressing D to crouch shield and 4 before pressing D to avoid the concentration lockout. i kept getting counter hit and saying "i shielded that!"
Ohhh I finally get it, "green shielding" is just the action you take in blockstun, it doesn't even actually interact with a move? Like you never "green shield a move", it's like a stance you're locked in for a while if you whiff, but will let you (blue) shield the next move if they press during it? exactly! when people say you should green shield a move (aka green shielding akatsuki 214B) they usually mean you use a green shield to get the shield effect on the last hit

yeah, you gotta make sure you change your block before you shield!
