For some reason when I call people I can not talk and I also can’t hear what the other person is saying. Also when I plug in headphones it doesn’t detect it. When I open up siri it just doesn’t even let me try to speak it flat out just doesn’t work. Does anyone know how to fix this? Edit: My phone doesn’t work again sorry for not responding

Apple knows about this problem, but won't admit it. They want you to buy newest iPhone. They don't care about you or the environment. I paid $800 for this phone 2 years ago. It's a ridiculous amount of money for a phone which lasts for no more than 2 years. Something has to be done.

Brendan O'Connor I took it to apple and they tried to tell me that I dropped it and I messed it up so if I wanted it fix I had to pay out my pocket but after emailing them every day and showing up to their store yelling a bit and causing a little scene eventually they offered to get it fixed and admitted that it’s their fault idk what the problem was but apple is the only one that can fix that problem

Okay so what happened to me was my old phone he loop disease. It’s where a manufacturing defect cause the mic chip in your I phone 7 to break. I tried to fix it but I ended up ruining my phone. I just bought a new one because the tools and equipment necessary for fixing loop disease far exceeds the price of an I phone 7 nowadays.

If there is no Noise Cancellation option shown in Settings, General, Accessibility, then turn on Hearing Aid Compatibility. It should give you a message about not being able to use both at the same time. Then reboot. Go back into the settings and see if the Noise Cancellation option is there. If so, make sure it’s off. Try a voice memo or calling someone now. This worked for me.
Just want to update this. After about 1/2 hour, the microphone stopped working again. I rebooted a 2nd time and it’s working but I feel like there is something wrong. I’ll try to keep updating the end result here. I canceled my appt with Geek Squad and will monitor the situation.
For all of you having the problem where people would barely hear you i had the same prob and fixed it by turning the noise cancelation off and not allowing some apps to use my mic so something of those 2 fixed it
The iPhone 7/7+ audio has 3 microphones and they are used differently (e.g. Siri uses the microphone on the back next to the rear facing camera and Voice Memos uses the one on the bottom of the phone). This video makes no mention of that and is of limited use in helping people debug or understand audio problems.

This is usually caused on iPhone 7's due to the Audio IC board failing after multiple drops/thuds. Basically the chip inside phone comes loose after vibration & you microphone isn't being detected anymore.

@@sad1332 I’ve fixed phones on my own but this is an issue where you have to solder a chip on the board so I took it to a shop. The phone started malfunctioning right at the shop when I went to pick it up. With the age of this phone, you’re better off replacing it. It was my wife’s phone, yeah she dropped it a lot, a case isn’t going to fix that. Go find a used iPhone or a really cheap Android phone on swappa.com if you’re strapped for cash. Now that black Friday & cyber Monday are this weekend, it's actually the best time to get a phone off eBay or Amazon! This is the time of year I usually get new to me (used) devices.
@@galaxymcdragon704 Short answer: No. I attempted to have the chip reflowed (redo the sauder that holds the chip to board) and it failed immediately after. Due to the age of the device, I ended up getting another phone.
It's the selfie mic on the back of the phone. Siri and the video camera recording app uses the selfie mic. The dictation/voice recorder uses the mic on the bottom of the phone. A can of compressed air will usually fix the issue or replace the cable leading to the selfie mic (just under the screen). It's a problem in iPhone 6 and up to the iPhone 7. When recording video you will hear a hissing sound at playback, this denotes something obstructing the selfie mic, possible some moisture or dirt, thus preventing the mic from picking up sound.
I have this same issue, voice memos, after hitting the record button just sits there, doesn't do anything, freezes even when I try to stop the recording, then eventually stops.
From what I gathered you have to send it in for a micro-soldering repair. The iPhone 7 has inherent weakness' on parts of the circuit board near the Audio IC chip when the phone is bent back and forth just from normal wear and tear, sometimes those joints fail and need to be resoldered. Ipadrehab.com was very nice, quoted me at 150.00.

voice memo, siri, and youtube (rear facing camera) all pick up audio for me. However, my iphone 6s camera app, when in rear facing mode, will not pick up audio. it's extremely muffled. Weird it works fine on youtube, but not anything else.

Ok so for anyone who's having a problem with the mic, look at the bottom of your phone and check out the left "speaker" (it's a mic) I just cleaned the bottom of it and it was filled with GUNK. You may be having a problem with that. So get a needle and just scoop out the dirt in circular motions. It should be good as new when you're done :D

I spent about 30 solid minutes vigorously cleaning the open holes on the bottom left next to the charger port with a needle. I was shocked how much dust was caked in there. And after i got most of the dust out I restarted it ( I let it stay shut off for about 5 min) and then my phone was able to make phone calls again with the mic working. Thanks!!!! I was about to have to spend a bunch of money, maybe now i can get another year out of this iphone 7 ;p

It’s An Audio IC Issue ... Motherboard Chip Replacement will fix that for you, it’s very common with IPhone 7’s

Bruh thank you so so much this happened to me when I came home from a long day and school and I was freaking out because I watched other videos but none of the steps worked but thank god for your video!
If there is no Noise Cancellation option shown in Settings, General, Accessibility, then turn on Hearing Aid Compatibility. It should give you a message about not being able to use both at the same time. Then reboot. Go back into the settings and see if the Noise Cancellation option is there. If so, make sure it’s off. Try a voice memo or calling someone now. This worked for me.
Just want to update this. After about 1/2 hour, the microphone stopped working again. I rebooted a 2nd time and it’s working but I feel like there is something wrong. I’ll try to keep updating the end result here. I canceled my appt with Geek Squad and will monitor the situation.

For all of you having the problem where people would barely hear you i had the same prob and fixed it by turning the noise cancelation off and not allowing some apps to use my mic so something of those 2 fixed it
The iPhone 7/7+ audio has 3 microphones and they are used differently (e.g. Siri uses the microphone on the back next to the rear facing camera and Voice Memos uses the one on the bottom of the phone). This video makes no mention of that and is of limited use in helping people debug or understand audio problems.

This is usually caused on iPhone 7's due to the Audio IC board failing after multiple drops/thuds. Basically the chip inside phone comes loose after vibration & you microphone isn't being detected anymore.

well shit. I drop my phone a lot. does that mean I have to get a new one / get it repaired? cause crap. I know I won’t be able to fix my phone / get a new one for a while. @@sad1332 I’ve fixed phones on my own but this is an issue where you have to solder a chip on the board so I took it to a shop. The phone started malfunctioning right at the shop when I went to pick it up. With the age of this phone, you’re better off replacing it. It was my wife’s phone, yeah she dropped it a lot, a case isn’t going to fix that. Go find a used iPhone or a really cheap Android phone on swappa.com if you’re strapped for cash. Now that black Friday & cyber Monday are this weekend, it's actually the best time to get a phone off eBay or Amazon! This is the time of year I usually get new to me (used) devices.

@@galaxymcdragon704 Short answer: No. I attempted to have the chip reflowed (redo the sauder that holds the chip to board) and it failed immediately after. Due to the age of the device, I ended up getting another phone.

It's the selfie mic on the back of the phone. Siri and the video camera recording app uses the selfie mic. The dictation/voice recorder uses the mic on the bottom of the phone. A can of compressed air will usually fix the issue or replace the cable leading to the selfie mic (just under the screen). It's a problem in iPhone 6 and up to the iPhone 7.
When recording video you will hear a hissing sound at playback, this denotes something obstructing the selfie mic, possible some moisture or dirt, thus preventing the mic from picking up sound.
This has happened with me three times now, I’m done with apple 😂

I have this same issue, voice memos, after hitting the record button just sits there, doesn't do anything, freezes even when I try to stop the recording, then eventually stops.

From what I gathered you have to send it in for a micro-soldering repair. The iPhone 7 has inherent weakness' on parts of the circuit board near the Audio IC chip when the phone is bent back and forth just from normal wear and tear, sometimes those joints fail and need to be resoldered. Ipadrehab.com was very nice, quoted me at 150.00.

voice memo, siri, and youtube (rear facing camera) all pick up audio for me.
However, my iphone 6s camera app, when in rear facing mode, will not pick up audio. it's extremely muffled.
Weird it works fine on youtube, but not anything else.

Im having problems with Siri, memo, calls, and videos. If I want to use my mic I have to turn off my phone and turn it back on. It only works one time, like if I want to call someone I can only do it once and afterwards it won’t work. If you guys have any suggestions that will help plz tell me.

Ok so for anyone who's having a problem with the mic, look at the bottom of your phone and check out the left "speaker" (it's a mic) I just cleaned the bottom of it and it was filled with GUNK. You may be having a problem with that. So get a needle and just scoop out the dirt in circular motions. It should be good as new when you're done :D

I spent about 30 solid minutes vigorously cleaning the open holes on the bottom left next to the charger port with a needle. I was shocked how much dust was caked in there. And after i got most of the dust out I restarted it ( I let it stay shut off for about 5 min) and then my phone was able to make phone calls again with the mic working. Thanks!!!! I was about to have to spend a bunch of money, maybe now i can get another year out of this iphone 7 ;p
Class action lawsuit here. $1000 phones that last less than 2 years... with a consistent design issue like this and for which Apple has no desire to do the right thing for its loyal customers?
