TBH, I rly admire Colleen for actually going to so many shows in front of people in her getup and still staying in character. It's kind of hard not to feel self conscious, not sure if I could do it. But cheers for her. Ily Miranda!!!
I think it makes it easier because she thinks of them as different people so Colleen wouldn’t ever do that but Miranda would it’s kinda like how people in tv shows and movies are shy and then they play a A character who is brave so they are able to do things they would never do because there not themselves there that character And that probably made no sense haha
It's annoying. It's one thing for a movie or for your the tv show you act on. She comes off as rude and annoying and I hated the segment just because she couldnt be a normal person for 5 seconds.
+Debra Bigmessing It's not rude, it's just a misinterpretation. If you don't know Miranda is a character than you are most likely going to think she is in some way mentally challenged. Her character is a little out there, and it can be hard for an outside viewer to properly understand the goal of the character. The style of humor that Miranda relies on isn't for everyone, people have their own individual personalities along with beliefs and values.

Miranda Sings is a CHARACTER for you who don't know. Her name is Colleen Ballinger and she is hilarious. I know Miranda is what she is known for but it would really be amazing to see her, Colleen up there. But all that aside, I am a huge supporter of her and I think she did a great job for her first time on a show like this.

As an avid Miranda watcher I can attest to the fact that she is hilarious. It took me a while to understand her character. 5 to 10 videos maybe. It's an acquired taste and a distinct humor. This was definitely not the best way to introduce her to the world, but when Jerry Seinfeld believes you are genuinely funny, and invites you to join him on The Tonight Show, you don't say no. She was invited to be in character. Her real life self is a sweet, funny, extremely talented girl. The act isn't suited for television, but he believed she deserves the exposure. He talked about her on The Late Show with David Letterman. Then had her on his show, then invited her to be on The Tonight Show. If you believe Jerry is funny, but can't see what he thinks is funny, maybe you should look into it before you critique based on one bit. And yes, she is a TH-cam sensation. TH-cam is a HUGE place. Just because she's not from your mainstream neck of the woods doesn't mean she's not famous. She sells out on her world tours every year. This was a great moment for her and the fans that love her. It's not hurting you, so don't worry about it. Praise Jimmy and Jerry for appreciating all sorts of comedy.
Okay, for everyone saying she "ruined" the segment: She was Miranda on the show because the Tonight Show wanted Miranda. She butchered her drawings because the Tonight Show told her to butcher her drawings. She didn't guess right because the Tonight Show told her not to. Everything is set up, everything is planned. She did not "take it too far" or "ruin" anything. She played her character like she always does and followed instructions. This is how it was supposed to play out: the way it went was in no way Miranda's fault.

Exactly this. I've never once seen any of her videos, but I'd heard of "Miranda Sings" and knew it was TH-cam-related and her exaggerated behviour/voice (not to mention her outfit) immediately gave it away that she was a character, not being herself. I do think it was the show's mistake to bring a TH-cam character in with a bunch of "real people" though. Mainly real people who didn't KNOW said character. How else could it have turned out? :/
Like Jerry, I too would be pulling my hair out and shaking her into consciousness. Plus I think the 'not giving a fuck and doodling like a maniac' doesn't work when your playing with others, it's kinda rude rather than funny, although I'm sure she didn't mean it like that.

I feel bad about what a hard time Miranda had on the show. Her character is well understood by her fans, but the Tonight Show audience probably has no idea who she is and thought she was just being very difficult and is some bad stand up comic. I've barely seen her videos, but that's a lot to try to get an audience to take in if they're uninitiated.

im actually really proud of her for that. i would say the show can edit out her breaks because well she's already said they're able to do different sketches if the current one didn't work. but i don't think that's the case here..either way it was really good.

Exactly how it was for me. I was introduced to her years ago and didn't get it but then a few months ago I found Colleen's channel and then loved Miranda.
zhaquiri He also said that he found out about miranda/colleen because his kids adore her channels. Which is what got her on Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee (Jerry's YT channel), which in turn got her on Fallon to plug both her and jerry's channels. At the end of the day, she still has upwards of something like 7k subs between both her channels and she's astronomically more successful because of this one collaboration. It sucks that she got so much heat over this appearance but I mean come on, people shouldn't hate on her simply because they don't get her humor.

Guys come on, give her a chance. It was her first time on big time live television, and she wasn't really given much of a chance here to show off her character. I think she just needs to be given a solo moment to shine and to show off her character. Judge her once that has happened :)
Jennifer Clarkson "Finally someone understands"? What's to understand? It's a comedy character. Who cares. Some people like the various comedy characters created by Jim Carrey, Baron Cohen, Andy Kaufman, Paul Reubens, etc. They rarely work on a talk show. Colleen Ballinger isn't in the same ball park as any of these comics and I'm insulting those people by mentioning them relative to Miranda Sings.
I think she just needs to be given a chance to let people understand her character. I didn't find her funny at first, and I thought it was pretty unentertaining, but after learning about the character I can't stop watching her videos! :) I think that miranda sings may not be a suitable kind of comedy for this show, but I'd say that Colleen Ballinger's sense of humour would fit in perfectly.
Senbonzakura Kageyoshi TH-cam is the perfect place for her. People who like her can get as much of her as they want and the rest of us live in blissful ignorance.
People need to realize a couple things that Colleen (who plays Miranda) cleared up today: 1. Jerry asked her to come on as Miranda to do this with him 2. She was nervous to go on because she knows that a lot of people might not get Miranda as a character if they're seeing her for the first time. So yeah, Miranda is not a character many people might not like because this is their first experience with her. But if you watch her stuff, you understand her more as a character. Plus, if you watch Colleen, you really get an awesome person who, even on her own, is fantastic. If you don't like Miranda, great, this is the only thing you have to watch of her. But don't hate on a character when this is her first big exposure outside of TH-cam. Colleen did the best she could for the hand she had been dealt. So just think before you go off saying anything about Miranda, Colleen, or anything (especially those people who are tossing around jokes about mental illness)

I highly doubt people are watching it for Martin Short or Jerry Seinfeld (or maybe they are), and the other videos in this channel barely have views over 300K! (apart from a few)! I watched this video because Jerry Seinfeld in one of the funniest people alive. NOT because of some ANNOYING youtuber, I thing she ruined this part of the episode.
It should be clarified that the *character* Miranda was invited on the show by Jerry, not Colleen herself. She knew going into it that a lot of people wouldn't understand her character and that's fine. Even I was pretty iffy about it when I first found her channel but when you understand the development of the character and how Miranda came to be, it's SO much funnier. There definitely should have been a more in depth introduction of Miranda AND Colleen but it is what it is. Colleen was wonderful and deserves nothing but respect.

YES!! The first video I ever saw of Miranda was with Scott Hoying and Mitch Grassi of Pentatonix on their Superfruit channel. I was like... what the even heck?! But then I saw the bloopers of them filming that and found her PsychoSoprano channel. After watching her videos as her, and then watching more Miranda videos, I got it, and I adore her. :D
That's exactly what I did. I love her! But ... Her character did not fit in well with this skit and it was painfully awkward. I wish she would have done another interview with Jimmy Fallon in order to highlight her comedic style!
I love how Miranda's 10 year old fans are jumping in to defend her TH-cam legacy. Obviously she's not everyone's cup of tea but to each their own. That's the awesomeness of the character, being able to act natural in every scenario. I think she pulled off this one absolutely brilliantly anyone else would have just drawn and guessed, she added extra acts in the game.
It really sucks reading all of these comments. Colleen (Miranda) is probably the sweetest person you can find on youtube and all she ever wants is to make others happy. She said herself she was nervous for this because she knew her character is hard to interpret. All Colleen ever does is work hard and she may pursue something you don't understand, but she made it on the TONIGHT SHOW. thats pretty amazing. If you have bad things to say, thats too bad. Colleen, many people support you and believe in yourself that you are amazing and so funny!

Julia f I just don't see it. Gilda Radner and charlie chaplin made me laugh. I just see her trying her best to be like them in her own way. However it's just not there. It may work in some videos but you say all the videos made you laugh and I think there is no way. I mean i can understand some videos may have mad you laugh but all of them. I just discovered 'Miranda' and think she is hilarious. I'm a 26 year old mother of a young baby boy and she helps bring laughter into my day when things are stressful, as they can be with a new baby. I'm not sure why she gets so much hate. If you don't like her humor, don't watch her. Obviously her career being 'Miranda' has served her well. When is the last time you were asked to to a show with Jerry Seinfeld or Jimmy Fallon?
Respectfully, I'd disagree. I'm a fan of standup and shows about classic cars, so I always watch Leno's Garage and Jerry's coffee show- which is where I first saw Miranda. I think her debut on the Tonight Show didn't go very well because she didn't communicate enough about her character. She did better on Jerry's show where she talked more, but to be honest, I didn't really 'get it' until I saw her with Jerry on the 'How to Be Famous' video. Knowing that she's a megalomaniac (and not just a curmudgeon) is essential to appreciating what Colleen is doing with 'Miranda.' There are fairly easy ways that this could have been signaled to the viewer, but none were used in this bit.
The reason why people are giving Miranda a hard time is because both Jerry and Jimmy just threw the character onto their shows with little or no background info that she is just a crazy, absent minded character or of any of her jokes. If they showed at least a couple of clips from her videos, the audience would get a hint of the overall joke. For all their usual audiences know, she is a waste of time. If people saw more of her videos, they would find her funny but I don't think her audience will grow as much as anticipated this way.
I totally agree but I have a feeling that the audience will look her up after hearing "internet star" and want to learn more about her so then I bet they' research her and find out who she really is
It was obvious she was "crazy" and "absent-minded" and playing a character and ... it just wasn't funny at all. Everyone I know knows how to play "annoying teenage girl," which is totally what she pulled off, in a totally unfunny way.

The original point behind Miranda was to make fun of those arrogant singers on TH-cam who think they will get famous and think they have a huge following when in reality, they have only 100 subscribers. However, since Miranda's popularity and following grew, the character just grew more insane. One thing that contributes to her act is being an adult despite living with her mom who still home schools her and her creepy uncle. That's why she acts like that. I agree that she wasn't very funny here. I didn't laugh at all actually. I didn't think Colleen put in all her effort into the character here but it was probably nerves that got to her or something.
honestly I can understand why many people comment here that they didn't find Miranda funny and that was also expressed by the nervousness of Colleen. Miranda has a really strong personality. when I watched her the first time I thought: "who is this crazy person? this is really annoying!" Till I realised that it is just a character with a lot of strange habits, but also thinks in a way out of the box. she is so unpredictable sometimes. you need to get to know her better to understand her jokes. but like food taste we all have different humor, so don't get mad when some people have problems to find miranda funny from the beginning. maybe it is harder for jimmys audience to get it because they are used to another kind of humor. I still think it is great she was in the show and they are open to new things. Colleen really deserves it! she works really hard!
The thing is, if you've been around the internet scene for awhile, her whole act is just a copy of others before her. Fred immediately comes to mind and she got the gratingness of his humor down pat. Then there's Boxxy, one of the many early viral stars on YT that had the same crazy/over-the-top personality. Both Fred and Boxxy were of course characters, the latter actually being funny at the time, while the former seems to have reborn as Miranda Sings. Not funny.

Tabeida Tinat Well, Boxxy and Fred were both pretty big around 2006-09 if I'm remembering times correctly. Now, they aren't really relevant with the younger crowd anymore, so I can see how a Miranda Sings could get popular with the same formula, but many of the people saying she isn't funny like me are probably people who have seen this shctick before.
You might love it, but the character is a mainstream (i.e. "Normal" appeal) kiss of death for CB. When was the last time you saw her invited to any of these shows with any of these type of guys? The video you're watching is in 2014, ffs. Hope for more success for Colleen than just being appealing to YT audiences.

Wow, most of these comments are brutal. I just watched Colleen's vlog, and she was super nervous about this. She already knew people wouldn't 'get' Miranda, and that's why she was nervous. And watching this bit, you can tell how nervous she was. She didn't go full Miranda until it was almost over. Jerry invited her to come on the show with him, and I think she did a great job for it being her first time doing a show like this for an audience that has no idea who she is. I don't think that forcing Miranda into the spotlight on Fallon was the greatest idea. I love Miranda, but I can totally see why the people who are seeing the character for the first time are sort of turned off by it. Miranda Sings is a CHARACTER for you who don't know. Her name is Colleen Ballinger and she is hilarious. I know Miranda is what she is known for but it would really be amazing to see her, Colleen up there. As an avid Miranda watcher I can attest to the fact that she is hilarious. It took me a while to understand her character. 5 to 10 videos maybe. It's an acquired taste and a distinct humor. This was definitely not the best way to introduce her to the world, but when Jerry Seinfeld believes you are genuinely funny, and invites you to join him on The Tonight Show, you don't say no. She was invited to be in character. Her real life self is a sweet, funny, extremely talented girl. The act isn't suited for television, but he believed she deserves the exposure. He talked about her on The Late Show with David Letterman. Then had her on his show, then invited her to be on The Tonight Show. If you believe Jerry is funny, but can't see what he thinks is funny, maybe you should look into it before you critique based on one bit.
And yes, she is a TH-cam sensation. TH-cam is a HUGE place. Just because she's not from your mainstream neck of the woods doesn't mean she's not famous. She sells out on her world tours every year.
This was a great moment for her and the fans that love her. It's not hurting you, so don't worry about it. Praise Jimmy and Jerry for appreciating all sorts of comedy.

Okay, for everyone saying she "ruined" the segment: She was Miranda on the show because the Tonight Show wanted Miranda. She butchered her drawings because the Tonight Show told her to butcher her drawings. She didn't guess right because the Tonight Show told her not to. Everything is set up, everything is planned. She did not "take it too far" or "ruin" anything. She played her character like she always does and followed instructions. This is how it was supposed to play out: the way it went was in no way Miranda's fault.

I've never once seen any of her videos, but I'd heard of "Miranda Sings" and knew it was TH-cam-related and her exaggerated behviour/voice (not to mention her outfit) immediately gave it away that she was a character, not being herself. I do think it was the show's mistake to bring a TH-cam character in with a bunch of "real people" though. Mainly real people who didn't KNOW said character. How else could it have turned out? :/

I feel bad about what a hard time Miranda had on the show. Her character is well understood by her fans, but the Tonight Show audience probably has no idea who she is and thought she was just being very difficult and is some bad stand up comic. I've barely seen her videos, but that's a lot to try to get an audience to take in if they're uninitiated.

Some people like the various comedy characters created by Jim Carrey, Baron Cohen, Andy Kaufman, Paul Reubens, etc. They rarely work on a talk show. Colleen Ballinger isn't in the same ball park as any of these comics and I'm insulting those people by mentioning them relative to Miranda Sings.
I think she just needs to be given a chance to let people understand her character. People need to realize a couple things that Colleen (who plays Miranda) cleared up today:
1. Jerry asked her to come on as Miranda to do this with him
2. She was nervous to go on because she knows that a lot of people might not get Miranda as a character if they're seeing her for the first time.
So yeah, Miranda is not a character many people might not like because this is their first experience with her. But if you watch her stuff, you understand her more as a character. Plus, if you watch Colleen, you really get an awesome person who, even on her own, is fantastic. If you don't like Miranda, great, this is the only thing you have to watch of her. But don't hate on a character when this is her first big exposure outside of TH-cam. Colleen did the best she could for the hand she had been dealt. So just think before you go off saying anything about Miranda, Colleen, or anything (especially those people who are tossing around jokes about mental illness)

I watched this video because Jerry Seinfeld in one of the funniest people alive. NOT because of some ANNOYING youtuber, I thing she ruined this part of the episode.
It should be clarified that the *character* Miranda was invited on the show by Jerry, not Colleen herself. She knew going into it that a lot of people wouldn't understand her character and that's fine. Even I was pretty iffy about it when I first found her channel but when you understand the development of the character and how Miranda came to be, it's SO much funnier. There definitely should have been a more in depth introduction of Miranda AND Colleen but it is what it is. Colleen was wonderful and deserves nothing but respect.

YES!! The first video I ever saw of Miranda was with Scott Hoying and Mitch Grassi of Pentatonix on their Superfruit channel. I was like... what the even heck?! But then I saw the bloopers of them filming that and found her PsychoSoprano channel. After watching her videos as her, and then watching more Miranda videos, I got it, and I adore her. :D

I just discovered 'Miranda' and think she is hilarious. I'm a 26 year old mother of a young baby boy and she helps bring laughter into my day when things are stressful, as they can be with a new baby. I'm not sure why she gets so much hate. If you don't like her humor, don't watch her. Obviously her career being 'Miranda' has served her well. When is the last time you were asked to to a show with Jerry Seinfeld or Jimmy Fallon?

Respectfully, I'd disagree. I'm a fan of standup and shows about classic cars, so I always watch Leno's Garage and Jerry's coffee show- which is where I first saw Miranda. I think her debut on the Tonight Show didn't go very well because she didn't communicate enough about her character. She did better on Jerry's show where she talked more, but to be honest, I didn't really 'get it' until I saw her with Jerry on the 'How to Be Famous' video. Knowing that she's a megalomaniac (and not just a curmudgeon) is essential to appreciating what Colleen is doing with 'Miranda.' There are fairly easy ways that this could have been signaled to the viewer, but none were used in this bit.

The reason why people are giving Miranda a hard time is because both Jerry and Jimmy just threw the character onto their shows with little or no background info that she is just a crazy, absent minded character or of any of her jokes. If they showed at least a couple of clips from her videos, the audience would get a hint of the overall joke. For all their usual audiences know, she is a waste of time. If people saw more of her videos, they would find her funny but I don't think her audience will grow as much as anticipated this way.
I liked the reveal on Jerry's show at the end. I thought it was perfect.
I totally agree but I have a feeling that the audience will look her up after hearing "internet star" and want to learn more about her so then I bet they' research her and find out who she really is
It was obvious she was "crazy" and "absent-minded" and playing a character and ... it just wasn't funny at all. Everyone I know knows how to play "annoying teenage girl," which is totally what she pulled off, in a totally unfunny way.
jhssuthrnmama Miranda isn't an "annoying teenage girl" act. The original point behind Miranda was to make fun of those arrogant singers on TH-cam who think they will get famous and think they have a huge following when in reality, they have only 100 subscribers. However, since Miranda's popularity and following grew, the character just grew more insane. One thing that contributes to her act is being an adult despite living with her mom who still home schools her and her creepy uncle. That's why she acts like that. I agree that she wasn't very funny here. I didn't laugh at all actually. I didn't think Colleen put in all her effort into the character here but it was probably nerves that got to her or something.

honestly I can understand why many people comment here that they didn't find Miranda funny and that was also expressed by the nervousness of Colleen. Miranda has a really strong personality. when I watched her the first time I thought: "who is this crazy person? this is really annoying!" Till I realised that it is just a character with a lot of strange habits, but also thinks in a way out of the box. she is so unpredictable sometimes. you need to get to know her better to understand her jokes. but like food taste we all have different humor, so don't get mad when some people have problems to find miranda funny from the beginning. maybe it is harder for jimmys audience to get it because they are used to another kind of humor. I still think it is great she was in the show and they are open to new things. Colleen really deserves it! she works really hard!
The thing is, if you've been around the internet scene for awhile, her whole act is just a copy of others before her. Fred immediately comes to mind and she got the gratingness of his humor down pat. Then there's Boxxy, one of the many early viral stars on YT that had the same crazy/over-the-top personality. Both Fred and Boxxy were of course characters, the latter actually being funny at the time, while the former seems to have reborn as Miranda Sings.

hm.... never heard of them and I've been around yt for a while!i still think that colleen works a lot and deserves it. maybe she was inspired by them but i think her work is why she still is successfull and will maybe become it even more...just saying

Well, Boxxy and Fred were both pretty big around 2006-09 if I'm remembering times correctly. Now, they aren't really relevant with the younger crowd anymore, so I can see how a Miranda Sings could get popular with the same formula, but many of the people saying she isn't funny like me are probably people who have seen this shctick before.

You might love it, but the character is a mainstream (i.e. "Normal" appeal) kiss of death for CB. When was the last time you saw her invited to any of these shows with any of these type of guys? The video you're watching is in 2014, ffs. Hope for more success for Colleen than just being appealing to YT audiences.

Wow, most of these comments are brutal. I just watched Colleen's vlog, and she was super nervous about this. She already knew people wouldn't 'get' Miranda, and that's why she was nervous. And watching this bit, you can tell how nervous she was. She didn't go full Miranda until it was almost over. Jerry invited her to come on the show with him, and I think she did a great job for it being her first time doing a show like this for an audience that has no idea who she is. So haters back off! ;) And learn to not take things so seriously. Miranda isn't meant to be taken seriously.

This is exactly what colleen(mirandasings) was afraid of. All the hate on her in these comments are ridiculous. (back story)Colleen created Miranda on the full purpose for everyone to hate her and be super annoying. Now that i think about it, she achieved that whole purpose. Most of the comments find her annoying, which is a win=win for me. If you really see the actual Colleen, she is very pretty and a talented person. I hated miranda before but then I started seeing her vlogs and videos in her character and eventually got used to her annoyance, and pretty much like her. Jon Hernandez Jimmy says it at the very beginning .. Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee (Jerry's web series). Jerry asked her to be on his show after seeing her content online. They were all just playing along with her skit by being annoyed and confused by her weirdness. But they respect her.
I don't think that forcing Miranda into the spotlight on Fallon was the greatest idea. I love Miranda, but I can totally see why the people who are seeing the character for the first time are sort of turned off by it. Without knowing Colleen and how the character came to be, it's hard to grasp in this bit.
