Great reminder ! Talk about the early days 👌🏾 putting a dual 12" car subwoofers an box in the closet . Not knowing that it was incorrect sound. As time went on I learned the difference between car subwoofers (note) they have different specs) ,. and home theater subwoofers . Home theater circuitry vs car audio direct current . That's my life . The best of both worlds. Hope it helps . It's your money , It 's your ears , you have the choice
Proportions in how much spend on AVR speakers or amps depends on purpose - if you’re into music and movies I would say spend 50% on speakers 25% on AVR, 25% on stereo integrated amp - or if your budget is big enough 35% on musical AVR 15% on good stereo power amp. Otherwise for movies only 50% speakers 50% on AVR and you won’t be disappointed. If front speakers are close to each other let’s say width of 65” tv - you don’t need center channel - phantom one will do wonders - save money. If you put them wider get one and don’t save money on it - get a quality one matching your other front speakers.
If you plan on using a projector DON'T paint your ceiling or walls in a light colored paint color. Do explore whether you need an ambient light rejecting screen.
Sensitivity off all speakers should be as close to each other as possible, this just means that as the volume goes up, volume of all speakers have a better chance of being the same. if you mix odd speakers, it might not sound even. just one perk to buying same brand, and model for every speaker in the set up.
Not if you have your room correction level match all your speakers In a blindfolded study you won’t be able to name any speaker brand when a loud movie is playing Especially when using a sub where all bass is re-routed to

Don't put speakers in a room with just wood flooring, it ruins acoustics, sounds echoey, it's best to put rugs over wood flooring in front of speakers. Don't put your system in a Bare Room, for better sound quality treat your room, put in soft furnishings, curtains, carpet is best on floors, try to put up acoustic panels on the walls behind and around speakers for bass traps
Some center speakers actually have the bass port on the front. Like dali oberon vokal. So if you really want to put them inside cabinet, consider buying speakers that are made for this purpose.
I personally don’t think the surrounds make that big a deal. Most of the time its going to be ambient noises an effects. I think the front sound stage & LFE matters the most
I remembered a niche piece of advice to give, but I figured I would integrate it into a longwinded prescription people could consider trying if starting from scratch, I call it "The Quadrophonic Method" (getting a starter system on the cheap). So first of all, the niche piece of advice had to do with systems not using a subwoofer. A starter system might not want to include a subwoofer for living in an apartment, or with family, or simply not wanting to waste the money on a cheap one to start out with. Step 1. Get a surround sound receiver and learn how to calibrate the channels, and I guess you will need to get a decibel meter, or an app the same. Learn what Large/Small speaker all those settings do. Shop around thrift stores. Just get an old one with fiber optic or coaxial digital input. Yes, you can't do lossless 5.1 or Dolby Atmos. But not having lossless 5.1, consider this; Dolby Digital, DTS and SDDS digital audio for 35mm film in theaters always had a lower bit rate than just plain old Dolby Digital 5.1 on DVDs. So if you get a receiver that at least has Dolby / DTS you are good. Dolby Atmos is will downconvert out of fiber optic into regular Dolby Digital 5.1, and DTSHD MA or whatever will downconvert to regular DTS 5.1. Its fine. Certainly fine just to start out with. Step 2. Buy 2 pairs of big speakers from a thrift store. You can get a Dayton DTA-1 battery powered amp and bring it with you into the thrift store. Hook it up to the speakers you think will be good. Tap the sides of the speaker to hear how well built it is. If flimsy you can consider re-enforcing it. Listen to the speaker to hear if you like it before you buy. If employees take issue just tell them you're a qualified technician, that should get them off your back. If you find a pair of speakers you REALLY LIKE it's always an option to find an exact second pair on ebay. Step 3. Here's the niche advice I was going to post; You will set the settings like, Front Large, Center No, Surround Large, Sub No. However, this can be a problem. You see, the low frequency effects track, the .1 in 5.1 will now play out of your left and right front speakers. This could blow out your speakers if they can't handle it, even if you THINK the speakers can handle tones of bass. Get an OG xbox, get Vice City for your OG xbox, and make sure it's connected with a 5.1 signal. Now, make explosions and thumping noises such as the a car hitting the ground or bottoming out while driving. What works good is blowing up a car on an uneven surface so that it thumps around all whilly nilly. Vice City on OG xbox has a CRAZY LFE track, the 4.1 DTS on the PS2 version don't do dat. OG xbox vice city is a good LFE tester. So yeah, of the 2 pairs of rando big speakers you got, if one of them can't handle the LFE put it as the surround channel and set to small. If both handle it fine set both to large and sub to no. If both pairs of rando speakers can't handle the LFE set all speakers to large and sub to yes. This will send the LFE audio to nothing basically, and it will save your speakers from blowing up. (and if the speakers can handle the LFE if will keep you from getting evicted.) Well, if getting evicted is a top concern, you can set all speakers to small, sub to yes and set crossover at 80Hz. Now all sounds below 80Hz are muted and so are the dirty looks from you apartment neighbors when u cross paths in the halls. Yes, it's ok to not have a center. By setting center to No, it will make the center channel program information play out of the left and right. It's better to have 3 of the same front speakers, but just not having a center can work ok too. Especially if you get something like Klipsch RF-7's from a dead relative that left them to you.
If you got a place your Center speaker in the cabinet make sure the supplied bungs are inserted into the rear Ports or better still try to find a centre channel speaker with front facing ports
Hey man great video thanks! One question, I have a portable TV stand and it has a shelf (it's not underneath in a cabinet like you explained in the video) but it's a floating shelf, kind of like protruding from the stand, can I put the centre speaker on that? It's definitely larger than the shelf itself so the centre speaker looks as though it's 'floating' on air (hopefully the shelf won't break but that's another story). Now underneath that shelf is my actual TV cabinet - there's a gap between that shelf and this TV cabinet so the speaker in no way is testing on the cabinet - hence is this setup OK and the sound won't be reverberating/reflecting? Ideally I'd like to put the centre speakers on the cabinet flush against the edge of it, but the shelf above it is in the way so I can only put it on the shelf Cheers man
I only use two front speakers with cross talk cancellation. This gives me a huge 3 dimensional soundstage where the walls "disappear". This is more like a real life event. This can only happen if the room is 90% absorbent.
Tip #625 don't go from soundbar to 5.2.4 in a 100 yr old wooden floors, CoOp building filled with senior citizens & blast ya 12" dual sub 4 atmos speaker system like its a soundbar. It's much louder & you'll get your 1st noise complaint 😱😩🤣

I have my 504c center channel in my cabinet below my screen. I can't put it on top because I have the LG hu85ls built into the top of the cabinet. I ported my cabinet in the back where my center is located. I get full sound and range with no muffled sound. So, if you port your enclosure you should be fine. What do you think?
Until I get a shorter length living room table, right now I have a long table that's blocking my sub woofers. Is this ok since they produce low sounds, or ideally should you always have them open, with nothing in front of them?
I was about to order a full set of Klipsch speakers for a home theater setup. They do come with a 12 inch sub but I have heard about the Svs subs and was thinking about buying 2 of the 13.5 inch subs that have the triple ports on the bottom of them. So you are telling me this is a bad choice? I thought the Klipsch would hang pretty good with those Svs subs. Am I incorrect?
Hey buddy how are you. I have a question which center channel speaker is better Klipsch rp-440c or r-25c and why. I heard the bigger center channel speaker the better the clarity.
Good video but I almost agree with everything you said but if is for beginner on the speaker match the most important are the LCR since there is not to much information coming from the rest of the speakers at least that’s on my experience. I have my 7.1 all B&W but sometimes I use a different brands on the surrounds and rears and there a difference. One of the things I think you forgot to mention is the screen has to be also at view level, basically you eyes should be on the middle of the screen as much as posible.
Very true out of all your speakers, the front, left ,right and center should be matched. You could get away with your surrounds and atmos speakers being different. However IMO all your speakers should be able to handle around the same wattage. Especially if your running high power external amps. Certain room correction like Dirac will turn your speaker levels down to match the lowest power handling speakers in your setup. The end result may be your setup not sounding as loud as you like.
Hi Mr KspaceGuy, Can i mix 8ohms speakers with 6ohms speakers, forestance front stage klipsch 8ohms speakers Right, center,Left and surround jamo 6 ohms speakers all connected to pioneer 7.2 receiver, will that be fine with receiver?
You don't need to buy the same brand sub as your speakers but what is important is that the material you plan to listen to can be played on that sub. If you like deep bass that's loud then find that sub. If you like a tight clean sound to match your speakers find that sub. Etc
