Hi it’s Jim Colt from Hypertherm here. I wanted to point out a couple of things about one of the Powermax units from Hypertherm, this is the Powermax 125 and all these same things apply for the Powermax 85, Powermax 65, and Powermax 45XP that come from Hypertherm. This ones all set up for use on a CNC five by ten cutting table. It has a machine torch plugged in, power’s on here, the power switch is on the rear panel and when it’s powered up - lets just talk about the controls on the front panel.
This knob right here controls the amperage setting - you can see on the digital read out here. If you push these two buttons you get diagnostics screen on the front panel that you can see if there is a problem such as low air pressure or something else that’s going wrong with the system, this will steer you in the right direction for a quick fix. This other knob here is the mode selector knob, it has a position for cutting expanded metal, that’s a metal that has holes in it, when you cut across a hole with a normal plasma cutter, the arc will actually go out on the hole but with this one it will actually re-fire and continue cutting. It has a cutting position, it has a gouging position, gouging is for removing welds, usually with a hand torch, there are some mechanized applications.
And the last position down here is a trigger lock application and that’s for hand cutting. If your cutting a really long length so you don’t get fatigue on your trigger finger, you can hold the torch in both hands. Once you fire the arc, the torch will stay on until you retrigger it or run off the edge of the plate. So those are all critical settings for the plasma cutting torch. One of the features I like to see, you have a five by ten table like this and you just finished cutting up a sheet of quarter inch steel, now you have a five by ten skeleton sitting on the table - how do you get that off the table?
What I like to do is unplug the machine torch that’s on the machine, quick disconnect connector, I have a hand torch handy, plug it in, got a hand torch that looks like this one, this is a brand new one without consumables in it yet and if I had consumables in it, I’d recycle the power button on the back of the back of the power supply, I don’t even have to disconnect the interface cable from the CNC machine because this plug actually codes, it tells the machine it has a hand torch plugged into it now and it wont let the machine fire it but it will fire from the trigger switch on the front panel and you can usually go and cut up your skeleton, so a good feature you can add on to Hypertherm Powermax unit that makes your production day on the CNC cutting table that much better. Now we’re ready to cut again on the CNC machine. Thank you very much.
