I think the games would be better if they were structured like the person who wins gets to choose who they want to go on a date with instead of the two people who win automatically have to go on a date with each other. This is also how it's commonly structured on other reality dating tv shows.

But yes I was not a fan of it either, and I feel the commentary bits sometimes run the risk of reading too much into singular interactions, or just finding things to say for the sake of "commentary"
