It wasn't clear to me if restrictive eating means you have no liquids other than water? Does tea require effort to the body, or herbal teas? I eat just one meal per day, mid-day, but may have a liquid, even milk sometimes before bed.

Since retiring we moved our main meal to noonish. For me that is my first meal of the day. Our lighter evening meal is around 4:30/5pm typically. Since eliminating sugary and starchy foods, I’m having no difficulty maintaining this eating window without snacking. Increasing protein at mealtime along with drinking more water has reduced hunger tremendously. 😊

It’s a journey. I used to weigh myself on diets all the time to track progress. But learned to listen to my body more. We slowly gain weight when eating poorly. So losing weight slowly is a nice indicator of eating better. It’s also better for the body rather than rapid weight loss.

Odd that Panda didn't make his usual point that the body processes glucose better in the morning than the evening. Other videos I've seen where he mentions this have caused me to set my eating window from 9 am to 3 or 4 pm, with most the carbohydrates being consumed in the morning.

I would argue that in AM our stomach acidity is the highest and the proteins are digested much more effectively. The acidity of the stomach is also key in destroying all bacteria ( H Pilory being one that could lead to cancer). A carbohydrate breakfast will decrease acidity ( increase the ph) and later in the day, at the second meal, the proteins will be digested and absorbed less efficiently. Bacterias might survive.., I try eating my fat and protein in the morning..,

Thanks very much Dr. Panda for your wonderful work on intermittent fasting. I observe daily almost 8 hours eating window without any difficulty at all. I am aware that pancreas works well from 08AM to 8 PM and adjust my 8 hours eating window within the period between 10.00 AM to 0700 PM. If earthing daily at least 2 hours ( meaning in direct contact with the earth ) is added to intermittent fasting, it gives more better results. The electrons from earth which flow in our body neutralize the positive free radicals in the body reducing inflammation leading to various diseases within our body.

i have been sleeping 4-5 hours for 29 years now since i read that the body only needs 3 hours of deep sleep to rejuvenate and also learned that yogis can do well with 4 hours of sleep. i immediately fall asleep when i go to bed. wake up with out alarm clock within 4-5 hours. i am 69 years old, no gym, no diet restrictions and have no chronic illness. i have the flexibility and energy of a 20 year old.
my husband and are experimenting on having only one meal a day (noon time) and coffee (i have tea every now and then) and some nuts or a cookie at 4pm. i think that even ups my energy and clarity of mind.
dr. panda, can you do a study along this area of sleep? i believe if we do not carry our mental baggage or still undigested food or too much stimulation to bed, we will do well with less sleep. there is so much in life than to stay too long out of it every day.

This discovery, when we eat is fascinating and something I'm learning about my own eating patterns as I restrict my feeding period. And I suspect that people who are willing/able to participate in the process, as simple as it is, is still selecting for more "conscious" eaters; less compulsive. It's a guess on my part as a highly compulsive eater who still hasn't recorded my own eating patterns. If this is the case, then many of feed over a wider window than 15 hours; perhaps as much as 20. This is discussion is motivating me to stick with my window, in understanding why it's so difficult at times.

Time restricted eating works. I was headed towards diabetes and obesity but put the breaks on eating keto. But it wasn’t really until I added time restricted eating that it really kicked in. Weight loss is automatic. I started going 16 hours and struggled with hunger at first, but now I go 18-20 hours fasting every day with no effort.
I am a night owl so wait until 3-4 PM for my first meal, and that way I can have normal social dinners, and still eat hours before I go to sleep. I will say it seems like I sleep a much deeper sleep as well, and sleep apnea cured.

Science has always been blended with religion for effective implementation and adoption by masses, Jain Dharma (one of the oldest Indian religion) since being founded has asked people who follow them, to not eat after sun set, till sun rise. So it’s not a new concept, it’s just now being validated by science and the good effects are being documented.
Great work in bringing this to the limelight.

Thank you for sharing. I have a question about the mice study. How did you structure the study to ensure that the time-restricted feeding mice in fact ate their calories within the allotted hours given? Would the feed, even if they have not consumed it all, would be taken away after the 8-10 hours?

    • @skwish6401

Mice (pre-weighed) will get fixed calories cup (say 1000 calorie per 25 grams per cup) and pre-weight water for 6hours (8pm to 2am). The remaining calories and water will re-weighed. The data will be analyzed after couple of weeks to see correlation. Is this correct?

WHERE TO TIME THE EATING WINDOW (other than in fast food outlet drive in ) The plugging of the food consumption 8-hour window gets thrown around but the answer would not come from academic research on it. The most logical position to take is to rhyme it with your sleep cycle and try to plug the food intake 8 hours exactly opposite to the 8 sleeping hours by inserting 4 hours before and 4 hours after the food intake window. It would be impossible to argue with this intuitively arrived at posture that I am personally practicing but may be 3 hours before breakfast and 5 hours after the last meal (a snack)

I'd like to see the "rejuvenate digestion at night" paradigm challenged. I have all day feeling amazing without food and eat a massive very high calorie meal 2 hours before bed. This digests in my sleep so I don't get the typical post prandial dip: energy slump or brainfog from eating mid day. I feel so much better, I sleep like a baby because the very large meal before bed makes me very sleepy. I'd love to see a study of this massive meal before bed and then rejuvenate digestive system in the morning and afternoon where we can exercise fasted with high energy and a vibrant clear brain without the food.. the 2000 calories 2hrs before bed.
Challenge the theory and do that study. IMPORTANT: Do this for a month introduction before main data because circadian clock or digestive components needs to adjust to this pattern. After adjustment I believe it will function excellently.
Personally, I have deep sleep, and lots of energy in the day and reduced depressing brain fog so my work has greater clarity and productivity.

    • @uelude
      @uelude 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Could it be the case that digesting at night had issues with insulin because it was counter to the liver and organ's etc expected circadian clocks.
It's been shown that these clocks are different to the brain, showing the digestive circadian clocks can be entrained.
Therefore rather than a test showing non entrained nocturnal digestion in Humans is suboptimal.
Please entrain the digestive clocks with several weeks of night time digestion (start 2hrs before bed to avoid disruption) and then take several weeks of well powered human data AFTER digestive clocks entrainment.
Then we will see if digesting at night could be a very beneficial paradigm counter to popular belief. It will valuable to clear up and delineate some outstanding circadian questions also.
I never wake up hungry, and tend not to get hungry until 9pm when I eat a large meal. Feel amazing and my daytimes now have a luxurious energy after lots of problems with fatigue. It's worth a try for the productivity alone. Don't expect miracles in week 1 though, the body adapts. Of course it's n of 1 and individual biology varies.. that's why I'd suggest a study. Science should have the data to make informed conclusions on human health.
It's perfectly conceivable after a hard day of hunting our tribal ancestors often cooked a big kill in the evening with the tribe and slept a couple hours afterwards and digested at night. Thus the next morning they had plenty of energy to be productive and the clarity to hunt, fight with open eyes, and proliferate.
It's counter to popular opinion of course. But why not test it. Our biology may fit extremely well with this paradigm, maybe optimally be some productivity metrics, given a month of entrainment.

But, we do not use them correctly. Instead of spitting the foam, we should try to rinse our mouth with it, by diluting it a little more, in order to remove food stuck in the crevices. That should keep the bacterias away.

My personal experience is when I restrict my eating window to one meal a day or even 2 meals a day which are within a 6 hour window I find it very difficult to eat enough. So rather than go 18 hours without food I am now trying to go 14 hours and then eat a later breakfast. Skip lunch and go another 9 hours before dinner which means I can eat well for my second meal and that allows me to eat enough calories. I am carnivore and feel satiated for at least 8 hours or after my meal so this is why I am trying this way of eating to make sure I eat enough food. I know Dr. PANDA suggests not eating for 3 to 4 hours before sleep but I find that if I do this my sleep is disturbed as I feel hungry at night. Sleeping after 2 to 3 hours from my evening meal seems to work better for me as I manage to eat well and feel satiated through the night and morning once I awake. I would be really interested to hear from others if they think there is another solution to my problem of not being able to eat enough in a shorter window. Thanks!

From personal experience of family members, most of my family say the same thing as you. If they don’t eat closer to their sleep time they find it hard to sleep sound because they feel hungry. But it’s the same members of the family who now say they don’t necessarily have to do that because you have trained your body and your mind. One of the docs I follow Dr Pal mentions that initially the body is in shock when we try nee fasting etc so it needs time to adjust. For some it may even take upto 3 months for their body to adjust to our new habit. In this time the body will try to show many reactions as such but eventually will get used to it.

I’m doing IF and I lost 10 lbs. I’m at my perfect weight for over 1 year , keto diet. Very little fiber. I Rejuvenated with 10 years in one year. I also walk, do yoga and swim. I stopped fiber because being vegetarian for 10 years made me bloated and I was diagnosed with H Pilory and SIBO. Once cured, my stomach flattened like when I was a teen! ( I kept the same weight as before: my perfect weight). IF plus keto did it for me. 4-6 hours feeding window. I can’t even THINK of eating after 4 pm. My body completely shifted and feels very light and comfy !! If I eat later, I’m very uncomfortable and sleeping is very light.

since 3000 years ago, the chinese already know that the less stress we put on our digestive system, the longer lifespan and better quality of life a person has. the chinese too has a saying: length of life is inversely proportional to length of waistline.
digestion is such a huge process for the body everything else takes a back seat (survival priority). remember how we used to be taught not to have a full stomach when we are going to take exams? notice how we lose appetite when we are sick? notice why animals refuse to eat when they are sick? this is so the body can focus on healing rather than digesting. this is not rocket science.
the body does not take much to be maintained: just eat variety of foods in its most natural form and in season produced locally if available in amounts the body needs; eat one-two times not all through out the day; be active; manage stress (having faith in god who takes care of what we cannot). these are the ways of life jesus showed during his earthly life. we do well to heed his manner.

We used to sleep at 8 pm and get up at 7 am. I returned perfectly healthy, after two months. When the issue resurfaced, I tried the same remedy but without much success. Now I understand that this could be because of the electrification done, inbetween.

RE: ½ hour BRIGHT LIGHT mid-day*** Should we do this WITHOUT sunglasses? Can we get any Blue light with UVV-blocking sunglasses?? If so, how much sunlight per day is safe for our eyes? At all ages. If we do NIR infrared sun bathing just after sunrise for 15 min to 1 hour (all before 9am) and then ADD a ½ hour mid-walk, and then add another ½ hour Pre sunset walk, might this damage our retinas? I have been taught since 1975 to SEEK SHADE to avoid skin cancer, and promote skin health, and to ALWAYS wear sunglasses, sun block and wide-brimmed hats. I need more clear evidence-based assurance that this wonderful liberty with the sun will not hurt my eyes or skin. Dr Seheult on MEDCRAM is inspiring but like you gives short shrift to the difficulty of UN-doing what Derms and other doctors have insisted on for so very long! Even as early as the early 90s if not earlier, it was well understood that food eaten later at night tend to store as fat. Further, there were plenty of anecdotal evidence around eating earier as a weight loss strategy.

I think this is a whisper of the Chlosteral lie where LDL was the demon for while. As long as your Tri/HDL ratio is in a 1:1 or 2:1 ratio, it means your LDL is a fluffy and healthy pattern type. If your ratios are off (higher than that) it means that some of your LDL is oxidized and 'sticky' which leads to issues. So Viva La Fluffy LDL!

The same happens to me. Mine was 170s for 2 labs, but for this last one, it went to 200. HDL and Trygliceridas are perfectly at 97 and 67. My dr is driving me crazy by telling me that I will drop dead one of these days and that I need to start medication ASAP. I was fighting, prediabetes and that is reversed. I cannot stop losing weight. Actually, I have to find a way to increase a couple of pounds before I disappear. I do not want to become diabetic, so eating too many carbs is not an option. I am neither a very high fat eater, but I had to increase consumption a bit, and I am increasing my protein. I also exercise, and I will start going to the gym to use the equipment to bulk up my muscles a bit more to see if that helps my LDL at least back to 170. I am not a carnivore 100%; I never had a passion for meat. I eat lots of veggies, fish, eggs, and some beef, so fiber is not an issue. It is becoming very anxiety-producing to fight the dr t every visit.

why do you need to do such research when you can observe the people in India and monks who eat one meal a Day never have to see a doctor or dentist throughout their life. Ayurveda knew this thousands of years ago and stated human body will last upto 100 years if you regulate eating sleeping and waking.
