  • Thes MK6 2.5L 5cyl Turbo 07K is finally on the dyno. Once we got it up and running on ECU Master, we then had a battle with the turbo charger and ended up doing some upgrades before tuning it on the dyno.

      so is this engine essentially/very close to the audi DAZA that comes in the RS3. Just a more tame without stronger internals than a RS3? Thank love all the quality content you make!

      @@DoubleRichrd there are a ton of similarities but also a ton of differences. Some of the main differences in the DAZA are an aluminum block, updated head design, VVT on both cams, and direct injection (and higher compression to go with it). Their internals are slightly stronger than the 07k but either should be built if you’re chasing real power. The aftermarket pistons/rods for them are the same 🔥

    It's great to see where the 07k's have came too. Years ago with my mk6 the aftermarket sucked, and options were so limited as well as knowledge.. I see more turbo 07ks every day, which is motivating me to eventually make my own build and swap into my R. WAYY WAYY cheaper than buying a DAZA but still lol

      Exactly what I'm doing to my R. Daza doesn't make sense when you could spend half as much building an 07K and have potentially more power capabilities. All the parts are here to build mine and it's for a street car and should do 600whp easily on E.

    I had the same issue with my b6 passat build,
    EA113 DSG SWAPPED PASSAT HI DEF BODY KIT BOSS 600
    ie block plate on the pcv and i swapped the oem pvc back in smoking stopped.

      Was strange to me tho because with the oem k03 it didnt ever happen I figure im running higher psi turbo size is way different we can assume the pressures are higher with the larger turbos

    I have a mk1 rabbit truck that I put a o7k in. I sometime soonish plan up turboing it. 07k is my favorite motor. And I love all the videos

    2005-2006 07k's have forged cranks from the factory. Rumor is 450hp on completely stock block.

      Not always, and I'd make that power on a cast crank no problem. Forge crank is not needed for that power.

    This is exactly why I suggested not being so dogmatic against some of the China turbos that have some quality control like VS Racing. Friggin Precision is expensive smoky junk way too often! And they never own up to it. I feel your pain! Garrett maybe is the good one if a guy has to spend all of the money, I've just never tried them. BTW, how do you like the experience of using the ECU Master? They are always somewhere in the discussion, but I haven't tried them.

      I've ECU Master on quite a few cars, and have a bunch of others on deck to do. VR's 2.5s, and 1.8ts. As for turbos... Garrett are always my go to if they budget is there... we have them on so many cars and they just take abuse and keep going.

    Kyle had drain issues on his 88/103 took it apart and checked and ect and turned out the drain fittings which were from chyna were actually smaller Inner diameter and was causing the issues!

    Speaking of long frustrating projects, i have a 3.0l Vr6 turbo build that i have been struggle bussing on for about 19 years. (no exaggeration!) The turbo recently went out on it, i would love to hear your thoughts on what i should replace it with. But i don't want to waste your time if you are not interested.

      I thought i replied earlier but guess something happened to the comment. Any way, off the top of my head, the engine started as a AAA VR6, was bored out to 3.0L, has rods, pistons, big valve p&p head, TT cams, heavy duty valve springs, ATP exhaust manifold, 2.9 clone intake manifold, 630cc injectors, running ME7 ecu with Unitronic turbo software. It runs really low compression (8 to 1 if i remember correctly). I bought the turbo off of Ebay almost 19 years ago, before i knew about knock off turbos. It says Garrett and i believe it was a GT3582? I think it might have been a knock off since the impeller is contacting the housing after less that 2,000 miles of almost no boost. Now i am wondering if i should try a different size turbo and should i stay with oil only or go to a liquid cooled turbo. I was thinking it should make 500 to the wheels, without wasting too much of your time i would like to hear your thoughts on turbo size and what kind of power you think it could make. This is a show car/toy. @@COMotorsports

      @@mattlarson9897 that turbo size is fine, just don't buy junk and it will last and make the power you want. The cheap eBay turbos typically last just about as long as yours did, sometimes much less honestly.

      @@ralmslb I explain in the video. I went through everything, including restrictors, which aren't typically required in these, and even smaller restrictors. We've seen many precisions fail over the years, we typically avoid using them.

      Depends on quality of parts used, labor rates at shops in your area, and over all power goals, and what you're starting with in regards to mods. In short it's different for everyone.

    What kind of power are these 5 cyl good for stock block? 315 is pretty good. I bet these things would be pretty good with just pistons and rods

      400 ish is what I've seen mentioned around the forums. As always there are some that have run more and survived, not a gamble I plan to take though. Rods + Pistons and you're set for 500 (even with the early cast crank, not many of those have broken).

      400ish with good fuel. Plans are to do a 2.5 stock engine pushed to the limits like we did with the hooptie series. However before I waste time doing that I need to 07k swap my daily.

    Over 300 on stock engine and reliable? This is really good to hear lol. I have a well maintained 08 07k with 170 thinking about throwing a little boost next year. Enough boost for an oil fed turbo no intercooler wanted. Lol😅 230/240 realistic?

      @@COMotorsports I'm not saying it's not. It's more of ease of install, waa looking into nice 5 to 1 headers and they're pricey which is fine.
      But doing more research I found an oil fed turbo kit, ko3 ko4 hybrid from a Japanese Ford van with the same manifold. This guy build a kit for you. And it's more or less as simple as doing a header swap and routing a return and feed line.
      I'll be happy with anything 225 at the wheels snd up for under 1k in parts and a tune

    I dream of this for my mk6. I lack the fabrication skills though and this looks like it’s prototype tuning so there’s no way I’d figure it out. Any chance of a semi bolt on kit? Associated costs? Great work.

      @@COMotorsports bumping my earlier comment with a general question. What would be rough cost estimate of the project from stock assuming sourcing new parts and being able to find a tune? Any parts (new weak links) fall part when that things started ripping up tires?

      @@prhannator2874 price all comes down to quality of parts, state that the vehicles in, power goals, labor costs in your area and a slew of other things. It's never a straight cut answer.

      @@COMotorsportsfair enough. I think the power in that build is ample and I like that it isn’t considered crazy boost and should run a long time. I guess I’ll need to sort out a parts list and go from there. Tunes seem to be hard for these types of builds because they’re one offs. Thanks for getting back to me.     Would that PNP harness work witha mk4 golf swap? I cant see a reason why it wouldnt, but i am curious if theres a compatibility issue with older platforms

      It all comes down to the donor harness and ECU... Meaning what car it came from.

      @@COMotorsports if I were to swap the 07k into a mk4 golf that had a 2.0 8v, the electronics worked fine and the body harness was in good condition, would that PNP harness and a standalone ECU work in the mk4 chassis? If that's too hard of a question to answer I would understand

    my mk6 gti jumped timing, have lightly considered a 2.5 swap with a turbo in the future. not sure that would be the most cost efficient option tho

    return the turbo and wait. so much of this crap going on now, it shouldn't be the customers problem a rich company chooses to outsource for more profit, with the trade offs of a few dives in quality.

    When I dyno'd my camaro the guy always had me use the car brakes to slow the dyno down quite a bit and then he would add the dyno brake. Just an idea.

      Your not supposed to use the vehicles brakes, emergency sure. However the dyno electronics weren't functioning properly for the brake, but all has been updated and is good now.

    Great stuff as always! I have dabbled with chassis dyno a bit, was wondering that have you tried keeping the wheel more behind the roller and strapping backwards from the front subframe, so when the car tries to climb on the roller it tightens the straps on it's own a bit?

      @@41800_worksthat's what you'd believe yes but real world in front like we have it holds the most power. The issue we're dealing with here really is the temperature. Cold tires, cold drum. We've held nearly 1300whp on a fwd on here before.

      @@41800_workshaven't used socks on dyno. It chews them up. So only old slicks if necessary.
