Screw all the critics! Thirteen was a damn fine album!

It trumped Bandwagonesque IMHO but not by much...the next installment of postively, anthemic perfect pop songs from the band :-). The double CD set was a great buy when it was released. Not sure why it was unavailable for such along period but glad to see it's been remastered now and re-issued on vinyl and CD with extra material.

I picked up a Japanese import copy of this album in the bargain job of some shop for 49p back in 2001. To this day it remains one of my best purchases.

Was at a pivotal stage growing up when this came out, 13 going on 14. Personally, I cant imagine those years without it, fucking belter imho.

It's taken me 31 years to watch this video. I had no idea it was directed by the brilliant Spike Jonze and I'm pretty sure the shots near the end are of Digbeth in Birmingham, stomping ground of my youth!

That intro takes me straight back to being in my first flat in Edinburgh, 1993, me and my mates rolling joints with Thirteen almost permanently spinning in the CD player of my wee £30 Ghetto Blaster that fucked all your CD's up spinning on a metal disc the size of a 50p coin lol Great times.

This song rules but I had the thought, is the intro to this song a Nirvana nod? It sounds a lot like "School" off of Bleach, and Thirteen, the album this song is from, was a followup to '91s Bandwagonesque. I think Kurt Cobain called Bandwagonesque his favorite album of that year, which was also the year Nevermind came out and some publications said Bandwagonesque was a better album than Nevermind. If it is a lil nod, like "hey thanks for shouting us out Kurt, here's us clearly riffing on one of your early and less popular tracks, we're fans too," well that's incredibly cute rock and roll trivia right there.

this riff is very intentionally replicating the intro of T Rex's "20th Century Digital Boy" (it's also 2x longer on the album cut) before tries to psych you out into a new vibe.
The riff from "School" is pretty similar and I imagine there must be people who think Nirvana did it as a nod to T.Rex like they did with "Come As You Are" and Killing Joke
