This performance was so pristinly done that I kept "hearing" a back-track when there really was none... As if he was playing more than one instrument! What an amazing talent and flawless execution... It just blows my musical mind! Simply exquisite, like a Maestro, Bravo!!
Being a musician, it takes a little bit more to impress me. And I am not at all impressed. I am blown away. This song is challenging with 8 musicians playing in perfect sync. And to tune a guitar to facilitate this song is brilliant. Genius. And I am sorry I have not been acquainted with your music, but I damn sure will watch for you sir. Thank you so much for posting this Metheny material. And yes, I also am impressed..beyond measure.
First Circle might be my favourite composition of all time, so I always appreciate anyone's take on it. This is beyond impressive. I had to sit in silence for a bit afterwards just to process it. Well done.
As always, thanks to everyone for their thoughts here and for your continued interest in my channel. Feel free to send requests for tunes or questions on music- looking into developing more interactive material for anyone who may be interested.
Absolutely Brilliant!!! “The First Circle” is one of the greatest musical compositions of all time. You have very beautifully captured on so guitar a song that took 5 great musicians to play on the original CD. Great Job! 👏🏻 Thank You! 🙏🏻 I absolutely love Pat’s and Lyle’s music! People will be performing and list to their music 200 years from now like people listen to Mozart, Bach, and Beethoven today.
Beautifully played...how is it that several musicians like yourself can emulate and capture the spirit of this music so well and faithfully. Bravo sir. my hats off to you and i salute the work you must have put into this. Thank you sir.
WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is easily my favorite Metheny tune of all time, and you totally nail it, sir! Very well done indeed!
Played the full jazz orchestra version of this in college. I'm stunned and impressed to see and hear it on guitar. Metheny/Mays pieces are intricate, delicate, and subtle. You nailed it.
One of my favorite PMG songs. I never would have imagined that a solo guitarist could have covered this song this well. Dan somehow brings to life not only the guitar, but the vocal lines, keyboards and percussion. Unbelievable arrangement and virtuosic playing!
I was a Brazilian kid i my 20S walking down the streets of Belo Horizonte where I was listening to Toninho Horta and Clube da Esquina with Milton Nascimento when I heard for the first time this song. If I am not mistaking it was in 1983 or 84...it is part of me ever since.
Makes me get goosebumps! First Circle came out when I was a Sr. In college. I’ve been listening to it ever since. Your rendition is nothing less than exquisite. Thank you!
Congratulations! Amazing version of First Circle for solo guitar. Really wonderful. By the number of shares I'm seeing I'm not the only one to think about it in this way.
Dark mood for me today with personal frustrations and our National calamities in the news......forgot all about these small problems listening to your beautiful playing tonight. Keep “discOvering” more gems of guitar finery here. Tim
There are many covers around with all the instruments, parts and vocals perfectly done but this one is my preferred. It moves me and it is simply perfectly played.
Me quedo sin palabras. Que genialidad al realizar ese arreglo para guitarra .Es escuchar a la band de Pat Metheny en un solo instrumento y con una precision admirable.
The Intro to this Pat Metheny tune has always tugged at my heart strings. You Dan have made my day with your version, you played it Brilliantly. Your obviously a Huge Metheny Fan, Me too, only I'm a Pro Drummer. I first got into Pat Metheny when I was 17yrs old buying my first Metheny Album which was the Double Live "Travels" Album on Vinyl, it changed my life. To be the Best you have to listen to the Best, You, Me Both. Pleasure to Watch & Listen to you Dan.
Many years ago... i played and pat was the man I listened to in my off hours and to relax, contemplate and completely enjoy. You are a credit to us. Bravo.
I have become someone I hate. I force this music down every throat I meet because how does this song not change your life?. To hell with them, more for me. Great rendition.
Bravo, non l'avevo mai sentita eseguita INTERAMENTE con la chitarra. Alcuni passaggi davvero sublimi ed emozionanti! Da dedicare al compianto Lyle Mays, scomparso poco tempo fa...
Seven people don't like this? Probably your neighbours cause you're playing too loud. How beautiful to hear this complicated song played by just one guitar. Great job!
Dan, this is so incredible. One of my favorite all time compositions. I seriously cant understand how anyone of normal capacity could give a thumbs down. Just tremendous.....amazing rendition
It is an excellent excersice to practice this in the quarentine and then finally play this beautifull song in the end of this days. Thank you so much Sr. from Colombia, Socorro Santander.
Hah, wow, I just searched for "how to play intro to First Circle" and found your video. Just amazing. Great arrangement, I bet you were glad to hit the last note after all of that. I know a LOT of work went into this...great intonation, action, guitar tones, lighting. I see your classical roots in your style. Thanks. I havent seen that guitar brand.
I’m very close to playing this great arrangement up to tempo. It’s been really a lot of fun to learn. One thing that I’ve added in order to simulate PMG Toms hits is to strike the top of the guitar with the right hand in rhythmic percussive rolls (al laFlamingo) when it modulates to the Eb section chord as it moves back into the energized 22/8 cadence. It have an acoustic guitar with a pickup, an extra punch, and there is more than enough time for fills like this. Dan has really done an phenomenal job grabbing the essence of this great composition.
I appreciate everyone's comments here- thank you all.
Браво!Великолепная работа,друг!🔥🤝

Possibly the best solo guitar I’ve ever heard. Just Incredible

Ditto to everything. I couldn't have said it better, so I won't try.
Very beautiful comment. Greets from a musician :)
Hard to believe what I have just seen. The whole arrangement on six strings. Incredible. What a fantastic talent you have.
Wonderful
My favorite PM cover on the internet!
First Circle might be my favourite composition of all time, so I always appreciate anyone's take on it. This is beyond impressive. I had to sit in silence for a bit afterwards just to process it. Well done.

The emotion that your art gives, distracts from the incredible tech skill that you reach in this wonderful performance
Thank you. Hopefully technique becomes invisible- the music is priority.
