+TheTheramond That's lovely to hear. It's always weird launching a new format on a TH-cam channel, particularly after a bump in subscribers who are expecting other things: but games and quizzes have always been a part of what I do here. :)
+Tom Scott Your videos are usually created intelligently, and that's what makes them worthwhile. Just stop caring about what those subscribers that unsubscribe from your channel think, because they aren't relevant any more, and new ones are certainly going to follow.
I'm so into this game. Like, it FEELS so right, like it's been something that's existed forever. It feels like your grandpa would find this while cleaning out his attic and invite all his retired friends for some rounds
+hii 488 It was a tough call to make. There are slightly longer, strategic episodes coming up -- we started with the "easy" skill games for the first round -- but as the old showbiz saying goes, "always leave 'em wanting more"!
I think I need a tumblin-dice board, it looks like it ought to be a pub game, like cribbage or something? Also, are the headphones for you and David a stylistic choice? How far from the action were you in your commentary booth (or was it in the edit suite?)
I was actually looking forward to the next one of these all week. It's been a slow week... but nice work putting this together Tom!! You've quickly moved up into my top 10 favorite channels!
I believe this is a commercial game. I've seen it played in videos from the Dice Tower cruise, for example. That one had a million players and the whole board was covered with dice.
Where is the kickstarter for this!? My only addition: some pillars along the side to strategically bounce off of and also give some extra chances to prevent falls.
Love this series! Hannah is one of those people who is just infinitely cooler than you: who designs games and writes about cool stuff (all whilst being a secret dice wizard). Life goals just STEAMING off her
Ohhh that's cool. Dice being chaotic systems, it looks like the trick is to barely roll it *at all.* Even then, I think that 24 had a good bit of skill *and* luck behind it.
+halfcelestialelf TH-cam doesn't always show all videos to all subscribers: like Facebook, it has a Mysterious Algorithm! But if you click the gear icon next to the channel name, you can choose to get notifications for everything. (Which is lovely, of course, but don't feel obliged to. The algorithm's actually pretty good.)
loved it! how frequently are they comming out? I can already tell I want a second season. And I am chearing for the girl from numberphile, you can still do it!
+Joe Corbett Game designer, theatre maker, and iron triathlete. (I linked to her Patreon because TH-cam annotations don't allow arbitrary links to personal web sites!) Basically, I look at her and think "wow, I'm not doing nearly enough with my life".
I'm not really sure what the point of this series is. I think it had potential, but it is severely missing a section at the end where you discuss the game theory or design of the episode.
I do feel that the matchups are a little bit unfair. An illusionist slash Rock-Paper-Scissors expert versus a TH-camr at rock-paper-scissors plus, a boardgame designer against a mathmatician in a game that's all dexterity and no math...Maybe it's fun to pit these folks against each other in the field of expertise of the *other* two?
+Staals2 That's why it's a double-elimination tournament! You have to lose twice, or lose in the grand final, to get knocked out. One bad game draw won't kill you off! (And it's why episode 1 was also about reactions, and episode 2 was also about tactics of what it's possible to get...)
Awesome series, but still, for me it just lacks excitement. It is more like watching a game of tennis rather than for example a game of football with an enthusiastic commentator. You have two commentators and there is hardly anything to be heard from you two. tl;dr : Great series with a lot of potential.
I started reading your username backwards out of curiosity because then it begins with "more" and ends with "derp" but then it just said "morececvderp" which means nothing and I wasn't impressed. you really should more original.
We tried playing this game afterwards. It is incredibly difficult. I can't believe how good Hannah was!
2:50 "I put it on the five so it will fall to a six" *falls on six on the best multiplyer*... I'm done ...
+Hugo Hidemark multiplier
She scores a 24! And the crowds gone wild!
It is kind of messing with my head to have Tom, people from numberfile (etc) *and* Emma, casually all in the same video.
+Edward McArdle And Computerphile!
Yes, Tom and Numberfile is kind of ok, if unusual these days., But Emma???
2:55 ... I feel so bad for Katie there. That look on her face.
+BrotherAlpha it was unreal!
@@drumetul_dacic the shot was unreal
shes on a whole other level. Its like she has hacks or something.
+Kolop315 game designers always have access to the exploits...
She's bhopping
Loving this series!
+TheTheramond That's lovely to hear. It's always weird launching a new format on a TH-cam channel, particularly after a bump in subscribers who are expecting other things: but games and quizzes have always been a part of what I do here. :)
+Tom Scott
I think the experimentation is one of the reasons I really like this channel. It isn't just the same thing every time.
This is awesome, shame the episodes are so short though D:
+hii 488 It was a tough call to make. There are slightly longer, strategic episodes coming up -- we started with the "easy" skill games for the first round -- but as the old showbiz saying goes, "always leave 'em wanting more"!
+Tom Scott I actually like the shortness of them. They could be a bit longer... no more than 10 minutes, though. This is a nice format, I think.
I think I need a tumblin-dice board, it looks like it ought to be a pub game, like cribbage or something?
Also, are the headphones for you and David a stylistic choice? How far from the action were you in your commentary booth (or was it in the edit suite?)

Have you got a podium? Will there be an orchestra to play the national anthem? What about a gold medal? (Gold foil around chocolate even?)
I love this so much :D Can't wait for the next one
This looks like a really fun party board game. I imagine you could scale it up pretty well by adding more colored dice and then just watch the chaos
Was that board made specifically for this game?
I believe this is a commercial game. I've seen it played in videos from the Dice Tower cruise, for example. That one had a million players and the whole board was covered with dice.
3:02 the best sequence of shots i've seen in my life
Where is the kickstarter for this!?
My only addition: some pillars along the side to strategically bounce off of and also give some extra chances to prevent falls.
Could've been a little longer.
+Anston [Music] That's what she said
SmileyMPV Nice.
“Oh, and that’s a bad miss…”
Hannah has a Phd in 'using games and theatre to destroy capitalism'? That's the best Phd I've ever heard of.
She also has a book about Psychogeography in Games where she goes walking with a bunch of designers, it's great. :)
Brilliant series. Thank you.
I love how strong Emma's northern accent is in these videos.
So, (edit: where) can we buy this board?
+Exaskryz It's an off-the-shelf game, but it seems to mostly be out of print! We managed to track down a copy in Germany...
+Tom Scott It looks insanely fun. I want one... :p
Love this series! Hannah is one of those people who is just infinitely cooler than you: who designs games and writes about cool stuff (all whilst being a secret dice wizard). Life goals just STEAMING off her
Tom: "Not even close"
David, trying to be nice: "Well -"
Tom: "Not even close"
God damn, Hannah's a pure dice wizard!
These games are brilliant! Really fun to watch too
This was the most low-key entertaining thing I have seen in weeks
This is looks like a very fun little game! :D
play again! I am so invested now
Can i buy this game
I want this game. It looks so fun. ^^
This game looks super fun.
This is surprisingly entertaining
This is super fun!
Ok, when or where can we buy this game?
What do you mean it's over? I could watch this for hours! Are there videos of tournaments in this?
I'm building one tomorrow...
Ohhh that's cool. Dice being chaotic systems, it looks like the trick is to barely roll it *at all.* Even then, I think that 24 had a good bit of skill *and* luck behind it.
2:56
how can i be a contestant? what do they get for winning?
I'm missing the Citation Needed episodes, are there going to be any new ones soon?
Yes! More of this please! This is as exhilerating as sports, if not more.
this is awesome!
The sport-commentator headphones did it. That was beautiful.
for some reason this isn't showing in my sub box :/ only saw it because of your FB post.
That was truly impressive.
does this game have a name and be found on online store ? it's seems interessting :D
woooeeeh! 24 !
also "one die" not "one dice" :o
loved it! how frequently are they comming out? I can already tell I want a second season. And I am chearing for the girl from numberphile, you can still do it!
Such a simple game, but the tension!
these are waaaay to short
just when you start to get into it, it's already over
This feels a little like curling but with out the ice and the stones.
This is fun! You should throw in the bar billiards thing you did in that other video!
If you knock out a die it doesn't count anymore?
If you knock a die over the new value count?
I felt this should have been a much longer match.
i really liked this
I'm hoping the next game won't be as lopsided as the first two.
Seemed like that was over very quickly!
Hannah is just OP!
Call me prejudice, but I assumed Hannah was the mathematician and Katie was the game designer. I stand corrected!
That was a better game in my opinion than the last one. I loved it. I'd consider playing it.
PLAY SPOONS (the card game) WITH ALL OF THEM!!
will the final game be monopoly?
The singular of "dice" is "die".
If I had friends, I would ask for a way to buy this game!
what is mill
2:57
The Glare of Death
Best of 2? I thought that's Best of 3? (as in 2 out of 3 games)
+SergeofBIBEK
It's first to 2, which is the same as Best of 3.
+SergeofBIBEK What was said was "first to two," which is the same as best of three.
Boter Bug 0:31 No... it isn't what was said.
BrotherAlpha I'm aware of that, but he said "best of 2" at 0:31
+SergeofBIBEK A best of 3 is essentially a best of 2, with a tiebreaker if need be.
I did not expect to see Emma in a tom vid. lol
this reminds me of cube quest in a way
So What does Hannah do Exactly? Her Job confuses me
+Joe Corbett Game designer, theatre maker, and iron triathlete. (I linked to her Patreon because TH-cam annotations don't allow arbitrary links to personal web sites!) Basically, I look at her and think "wow, I'm not doing nearly enough with my life".
Same here! I'm just going to go Re-evaluate my life a bit
Loving the Series BTW!
+Joe Corbett She designs board games. So she probably has a ton of experience rolling dice precisely.
She's needs to become a professional player at this!
Not a bad episode there
2:54
THERE IS NO DICE GOD.
please invite matt parker (the guy from standupmaths) on this...
I suddenly have the urge to play shuffleboard.
I've already thought it during the last video, and this time I had to think it again: Emma Blackery is hot.
I'm not really sure what the point of this series is. I think it had potential, but it is severely missing a section at the end where you discuss the game theory or design of the episode.
+Ewan Jobe Hard to do with light skill games but we're softening people up for the next few episodes where we go into a *lot* more strategy.
03:04 :D
You are the coolest Tom. Would love to meet you and shake your hand someday.
oh, shes THAT type of game designer...
EMMMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Like of the beast.
ummm....either "die is" or "dice are." "Dice" is a plural, just sayin'
I do feel that the matchups are a little bit unfair. An illusionist slash Rock-Paper-Scissors expert versus a TH-camr at rock-paper-scissors plus, a boardgame designer against a mathmatician in a game that's all dexterity and no math...Maybe it's fun to pit these folks against each other in the field of expertise of the *other* two?

+Tom Scott Fair enough. I still love the series by the way, I just felt it would be even more fun with some closer contests :)
''''skill'''''
Awesome series, but still, for me it just lacks excitement. It is more like watching a game of tennis rather than for example a game of football with an enthusiastic commentator. You have two commentators and there is hardly anything to be heard from you two. tl;dr : Great series with a lot of potential.
Haha, I was super excited during this video!
kinda unfair imo
#thijoetoiletries
100th view!
Clicked on it just from curiosity and I wasn't impressed.
+predvcecerom neat
... is for stupid people.
I started reading your username backwards out of curiosity because then it begins with "more" and ends with "derp" but then it just said "morececvderp" which means nothing and I wasn't impressed. you really should more original.
OMG Asian MLG surgical dice throwing skills!
Are you sure you didn't get Ted Cruz wearing a blue wig?
"using games and theatre to destroy capitalism"
I can't stop uncontrollably vomiting.
I'd recommend stepping away from the mirror Josh
I wish Tom invested his talent more in the good stuff like things you might not know or citation needed. This is mediocre at best.
Are you sure you didn't get Ted Cruz wearing a blue wig?
