I bought this a few months ago thinking there was at least some basic code up and running. Nope. It was some code to convert captured barcodes into "art", or some crap like that. It was totally useless. For the price I paid, I could have gotten a working, wireless camera with Bluetooth and wifi with a web interface. I don't mind some coding, but this thing needed to be built from the ground up. Way beyond what I was wanting to do.

Great work! I am by the way learning to do things with the esp8266.
Today you make my Cam module work after spend al lot of time with search, trial an at least error.
The example from the library will not work. Now i see you change the other two files to.
A few copy & pastes later my cam modul began to work.
    Also after a few resets...

Thanks for this excellent video - I bought an ESP32-CAM from Banggood - it arrived in only 5 days to UK - very good. I managed to get the streaming working with the example - but I cannot focus - the view is always blurred. I tried placing an old spectacle lens in front and it improved it a bit but it is not solved. The lens seems to be mounted in a screw-fit container, but I cannot turn the lens - it seems to be fixed - I don't want to damage it by forcing it. I have fed my findings back to Banggood via a review and am waiting for a response.

Enhorabuena y mil gracias.

    • @zachburke8906
      @zachburke8906 5 ปีที่แล้ว

The camera is an OV2460 you could likely find a compatible one with a longer cable but it would take awhile, you could extend the ribbon cable.
You could also 3d print a thin back plate for the camera without extending it, kinda like giving the camera a frame and then putting a case around that.

On my ESP32 board there is a VCC and a +5V pin. On my FTDI board I have a jumper to select 3.3V or 5V. I set the jumper on the FTDI board to 5V, and connected the VCC from FTDI to the 5V on the ESP32 (not the VCC on the ESP32). I didn't get any brownouts. The VCC pin on the ESP board goes to the output side of a regulator, this may be why you are seeing brownouts.

How does the CAM work? Where is it connected to?
I have some INFRARED CAM-Modules and it was nice to connect them. They use SPI as the data-bus and I2C as controll bus. Made code to make them work on AT32B* CPU. But it would be cool to be able to connect them without additional controller.
This should work since I can't see any additional interfacing hardware to the camera so I guess it also uses SPI?!

@@ensarcidic Yes, the camera works without computer. (But firmware in this video needs a web browser.) With a proper setup, it can upload images directly to cloud. Yes, the camera module has WiFi. And Bluetooth. And yes, the module has GPIO with SPI and I2C support.

For that type of application, the ESP32-CAM is not powerful enough. I recommend trying to use at least a Raspberry Pi (or more powerful device) with OpenCV.

    Great video!
Hello, I need help. Maybe you can recommend me something concrete or at least make some suggestions in both the HW and SW parts. Any help is welcome. I need to set up a kind of surveillance/streaming system for a project at my school. I would very much like to do it with something like ESP32-EYE or ESP32-CAM. My intention is to stream (or as close as possible) on TH-cam or FB directly from the module. I am not sure if that is possible and how to do it. I am very tight on time, and I don't have much money for testing either. I know that you have a lot of experience and have tested many modules. Please, which ESP module/camera/software could I use for that? Thank you very much.

While I have nowhere near the experience he does, nor knowledge, I have tried setting this up myself for a different purpose. It can’t really keep up. The problem is the two-fold - first of all the camera is... well, not that great. You’d be much better off swapping it for the 5MP model, BUT then you still run into the problem of the ESP32S - S for Single Core instead of Dual-Core, which means it can’t run 2 commands at once, thus causing stuttering/problems with the streaming.
Edit: Just realized I missed the obvious answer: FPGA camera.
That’ll run you around $20USD and have the ability to do all of that - facial recognition, streaming in real-time, etc. The ESP-32 may still be used (as a WiFi bridge, depending on the unit you get)
And if you don’t want to solder? That’s fine. There are Grove units that plug into an M5 board, and even an M5 Atom would be sufficient to give it WiFi and Bluetooth capabilities. ($6USD)
