I’m listening to you ramble on and can share some things I’ve come to understand. I’m similar in attitude than you so maybe this helps. You are what you do…..all you do is how you develop who you are. All your interests are quite related. I’m 73 in a few days and there have actually been a few things I’ve done then set aside. It still is a part of who I’ve become. You are achieving everyday. Who you are is what attracts me to what you do. Keep on plugging along trying, failing, learning and becoming. I so enjoy your journey 🥰

Love to hear your thoughts Wendy! Thanks for bein here :) I really like your concept of it all building on eachother in a related way to create who you are.

I feel the same! I am 46 and still feel like I don't know what I want to do when I grow up! I have also done many different things and feel a loss when I am focused on one and not another.

Thanks for relating!! It's both so fulfilling and simultaneously not fulfilling to be bouncing around and exploring interests. I guess we should just embrace it!

Very much relatable, the juggling of many selves past and present. I think this becomes more interesting the older I get, as my relationship with what I do becomes less deeply attached to how I define myself. They're just skills, facets, interests.

Yes, we do affect others and they affect us, and those things go out to others....that's why we call it a culture. Just my thought as you were talking.

I'm loving this vlog and still listening while I type. I believe we're all made of multiples. Me, I'm a mom; a creative - I have to work with my hands to maintain my sanity; herbalist; deep thinker; lover of linen; life-long learner of many things, and many more that I can't label right now. I'm a former wildlife biologist, and former zookeeper (almost 30 years ago). I've worked with hunters that have a very deep respect for the animals they hunt and fish for - to me their respect seems deeper than those that buy their meat from the grocery store because they see and feel the connection to the animals they're eating. I used to question hunting until I actually met hunters and indigenous people that hunt as a way of life.

Yes! I'm always so interested in how our relationships with other animals is so complex and nuanced (and often contradictory)! And glad to hear you relate to the multiple selves too :) I've decided that I think it's a good thing.

Deep vlog today! 🤔 I can totally relate to an abundance of thoughts rolling around in your head and, I think, the Wild West is the perfect description for it. For me, I’ve described the inside of my head like a merry-go-round on steroids and I’m usually exhausted by the end of the day! 😅 I have to say that the things you ruminate about are much more thought provoking and interesting! So, past versions of ourselves… I guess, maybe the biggest past version of myself was a stay-at-home mom but I haven’t been that in a very long time so, obviously I can’t still consider myself a stay-at-home mom anymore which means it’s more of a season of my life instead. I have also been a sewist/quilter a good part of my life and, even though I took a break from sewing to focus on other things, I’ve always considered myself a sewist/quilter. I did find that after my break I was out of practice with sewing garments, though, which surprised me a little. Basically, I do think you can still be a past version of yourself but maybe it depends on what that past version was. 🤷🏻‍♀️ My two cents, anyway 😂 On a different note…the whole time you were talking, I was also wondering how in the heck you washed 20 yards of fabric all at one time?! I always enjoy your vlogs and I hope you find a perfect solution to roll your much wider fabric on! Congratulations on all the orders you’ve been getting as well 💃🏻 Have a great weekend!

Thanks Rhonda! Haha TRUST ME a large majority of the thoughts that are on repeat in my head while sewing are mix of song lyrics and self doubt... these are just the few that broke free as worth sharing 😂. I think you are right about past versions sort of living on even when dormant for a bit. And ha, the fabric surprisingly fits in my regular washer and dryer! (And technically this was 10yds, but I called it 20 bc it's double wide). But one time had to do like 60 yds for a huge commission project and learned that most laundromats have extra large washer and dryers!

This was a great listen! I appreciate all kinds of videos - sometimes I want to watch, often I just want to listen while doing something, so it's nice to have variety. I especially love the philosophical side of fashion and your thoughts on how it's much more than surface level. Humans are multi-faceted, which is what keeps life interesting! How incredible that you've been able to be all different versions of yourself at different phases?! Many people get stuck in one :) I think you're on an awesome path and I love following along!

Thank you for being here for it! It really all has so much depth to it beyond the surface level of "just sewing". And thanks so much for the vote of confidence on my many winding paths!! Haha every time I TRY to purposefully get stuck in one, I get FOMO for the other versions. But I like the way you phrase it, it sounds much more positive that way! :)

I am not! But I love thinking about birth order, too! I am the youngest of three... brother is 8yrs older, sister is 5 years older. There's something to be said about independence, people pleasing, and advocating as the much younger sibling, but I'm not sure exactly what haha.
