- In this video, we walk you through the entire emissions removal on a KTM Super Duke 1290. The processes in this video are fundamentally the same for all KTM big twins so while the steps here may be slightly different in location than another model, the procedure can be used on other models.
Please note that this modification is legal for off road use only.
Never have I seen such an awesome, straight to the point tutorial.
If I do pick up a 1290, this could easily make the list of mods. Thanks Rottweiler. And everyone says they're such mean dogs!
I've had the stage 6 kit on for over a year. It's absolutely awesome. Worth Every penny.
Love this! (And love happy customers!) Thanks for letting us know!
@@RottweilerPerformance I'm still waiting on getting the suspension upgrades and ceramic wheel bearings. I heard they were really good but finances have been challenging recently. You guys should do a side by side comparison on OEM vs ceramic bearings lol. See if they improve lap times or handling characteristics.
Video was super helpful. I installed the stage 3 kit. I'd like to note that the current version of the kit includes a rubber nipple to plug the bottom of the airbox instead of using that short hose with the aluminum plug. Cleaner, thanks for upgrading it. My kit only came with one plastic plug for the tygon tubing, but I have emailed you guys to get a second one. In the meantime I plugged it with an M6 screw.
Awesome Micheal and thanks for the feedback! We plan on doing more of these once we can find a new building and set up proper for these videos. They are a pain to put together but once they are done, they really help people so we want to do many more.
@@RottweilerPerformance are you planning on performance upgrades on the new 2020? You guys sell exhaust system also. First time, going to KTM from 45 years of owning kawasakis first one 1975 H1 500.
My god I love watching this dude work. He’s got speed and skill.
Similar for gen2 I find
Yes very similar. Difference is, rank fairings have 2 screws each, each of the air funnels in the box have 2 screws instead of 4 and also, when removing the tank, the are 2 additional cables to unplug at the fromt of the tank. One small one and one similar to the fuel pump.
Nice just purchased a new 2020 SuperDuke GT. Will be using this kit the remove that useless clutter ASAP. Thanks!
You got it Mr. Mgeets!
The right side block off plate is a PITA on the 990’s, the oil tank blocks it.
Used a magnet to stop the bolt from dropping and to get it started
is this video still relevant for a SDRR 2023 ? because I cant remember seeing a charcoal canister anywhere in the bike. space is very limited on the RR version as is has no rear seat.
There is one, but in a different space. The processes are the same, but we don't have a video for that one yet. You can follow this, and just find the new parts in the updated locations.
This video is a model for 'how to" - thank you.
Thank you Phillip!
There is no room for the tool kit without these mods.
Id like to see where the crank case vent goes when installing the intake system. Im thinking about doing both of these at the same time. Might as well do both while im at it.
Awesome I just bought a 2016 and it had the R blocks and yellow lines nobody could tell me what they were, thanks to this video I know I got a super duke with a stage 3 Rottweiler kit. Now what that does for performance is another question lol
Now that is how a "how to" video is done, very informative. My question is after you remove that emission control apparatus if you have to have your bike emissioned by the state are they going to fail you without it on the bike? Would you have to re-install it for the test and then remove it again?
When you sell it,pending where you live.
Perfect video. I have purchased the stage 3 kit and will do the installation ASAP. Thanks!
What's the benefits?
Well done video. Was not going to mess with it. But after you showing how simple it is, I will be ordering the system.
Thank you! We did the video because so many people think that it's difficult and it really isn't at all. Makes the bike look much cleaner and doesn't backfire or gurgle if you will.
I feel the same way
Correct me if I am wrong...It does reduce the overall mileage if bike is used for streets...which most of us will do !!!
Hey Chris, with the charcoal canister can you pull out the canister and just leave the hoses and the valve in place?
You can. You'll just need to plug the line that returns to the throttle body through the canister valve. Otherwise you'll be delivering unfiltered air after the butterfly.
@@RottweilerPerformance wow thanks for the quick response👍🏻
Very detailed and helpful. ThanksIf I removed the cat converter from my 1290 and replaced it with a de-cat mid pipe, is it necessary to remove the emission system? I don't do track or race with my bike.
Will this increase fuel economy? I had a 2016 SDR with Rottweiler system, and I was getting 40-42 mpg commuting. My 2017 SDR gets about 32 mpg, all stock.
No, just gets rid of unwanted stuff. 32 MPG is usually an indicator that the engine has been tuned to performance. If your bike is stock, there is something a bit off because it should be in the mid 40's.
@@RottweilerPerformance well, I run it in track mode, but it is stock (other than the track pack download). My experience has been the opposite, my 2016 SDR had full exhaust, Rottweiler gear, and track mode, and I was getting 40-42 mpg. Both my current 2017 and my current 2022 SDRs are stock, but get worse mileage.
Forgot to mention it also had the Powercommander 4 or 5, whatever correlated with that bike.
Can you just put vacuum sealing caps on the throttle bottle brass pieces instead of tubes with plugs?
You certainly can. What we are showing you here is how to set it up to balance later, but if you are not interested in using these ports to balance the throttle bodies, then you can just plug them in any fashion you wish!
@@RottweilerPerformance Thanks! One more question for a 23 SDGT. On the tank there are two vents. Can I cap one and vent the other to air (I think the right/red one should be vented) or should I vent them both?
@@BradleyStoneV One vent is for the emissions that goes to the charcoal canister and the other is for draining the water that may seem into the dish outside of the inner filler hole. You can identify them by blowing into the lines and seeing which one passes air. Ideally you can just join them together as you don't really want to plug one or the other. Just 'Y' them into each other after the cap with a joiner or just run them both down. Either way works. Cheers!
Please do a video for the 690 Enduro R, pre 2019.
Hello, about the "dongle" how many ohms resistor You've used for it? The plates made of aluminum or stainless steel?
Anyway grate movies!!
I have just ordered one of your intakes and SAS removal systems.... Is the install on this similar to the install on an rc8? And where should i route the extra crankcase breather hose and filter/catch to?
Chris we spoke and I'm going to order the intake system and SAS kit next month but I wish you guys had a video for the RC8R
Trying to ramp up on those. I can't say it will be coming soon, but we will certainly put it in cue.
All this to save 3lbs, the best part for me is that i would gain more space under the pilllion seat!!
Great video, can't wait till you do one on the 2020,going buy one. KTM look easy work on were as my ZX14 is nightmare. Tools what make are them?
Do i have to remove that canister too? Or can i only remove the SAS under the tank? I only wanna get rid off that popping when engine braking.
Video detallado con información de la bestia que pena no esté en español o subtitulado Va mi like.
So I have a 2017 superduke gt. Some clarifications that I had to assume:
Gas tank has 2 lines coming off at the filler neck. I put my atmosphere vent to the red nipple as that goes to a hole into the tank.
2nd hole in bottom of the air box is just a drain for condensation? Left that one open ( the little one)
Also the bottom of the tank has a hose going from side to side. You can close the pet cocks on both sides so you don’t drain the gas tank out onto the garage floor before disconnecting
All of the removals are the same Alex. You just find the parts in different places. You can find which hoses from the fuel tank are what by blowing into them and discovering where the air pressure is coming out. This will help you determine what is what. These days they mark them well, but not on older bikes.
Hello, could someone write below what he said about the hoses at 17:10 please ? I can’t get What about the second one coming from the other side of the bike
french sorry
The vacuum lines need to be plugged. They can be used later to sync the throttle bodies with a vacuum gauge if you decide to ever do that in the future.
Hi guys, does the fuel tank need to be empty before removing the fuel line?
No, you can just turn the balancing valves off and pretty much any KTM fuel tank can be removed with fuel in it. There is overflow lines at the top that may leak fuel when the tank is on the full side so you may want to watch those or pinch them off before removal.
I have a 2019 SDGT on order and would like to perform this change to it ASAP. Is the tear down and installation the same on the SDGT?
I have the same question for my '19 SDR..Anybody?
I have a SDGT; it's slightly different. I strongly recommend you order a service manual to know how to remove the tank, air box, etc.
Yes very similar. Difference is, rank fairings have 2 screws each, each of the air funnels in the box have 2 screws instead of 4 and also, when removing the tank, the are 2 additional cables to unplug at the fromt of the tank. One small one and one similar to the fuel pump.
Apart from that, it's the same.
Hey what's going... waiting on my stage 3 intake and canister removal to get here tomorrow. My question is what happens if I only replace the air box and don't remove the canister. Thanks in advance advance.
Mine will be here in a couple of days as well. I believe that they are two separate systems...the canister is inline between the fuel tank vents and the throttle bodies. The plug is the electrical for the valve. That's it. I'm just worried that my garage will smell like gas once I remove the canister system. What did you end up with?
Is the removal of the sas and canister kit the same for the superduke 2017/18 as the 2015.
I just can't see where do I plug the yellow hoses for sync throtle bodies, on my KTM 1290 Super Adventure from 2015.
Please not that this model comes without cannister in Portugal.
Those parts are probably plugged at the factory then if you don't have them. Either by bolts or not drilled and tapped at all although we have never heard of this. You may have to just purchase the little threaded nipples that the U.S. bikes come with.
@@RottweilerPerformance ok found the spot. It is indeed like you say. I need to buy those nipples in order to attach tygon hoses for sync.
what happens if you don't adjust the throttle will it get worse over time? and how much does this set cost and what is the link to your Web site?
when did u hook up the es eliminator to make sure it does not go in limo mode ? if not this vid does anyone have a link
This video does not cover the exhaust valve as that is not really a part of the emissions systems. If you want to remove the exhaust valve from the 17-19 Super Duke, see this link here: www.rottweilerperformance.com/healtech-ese-exhaust-servo-eliminator-sd-1290-r-gt/
@@RottweilerPerformance I want to see if my bike already has that dongle plug in I just don't know where the plug in is . I just got the bike and I was told when it says and and traction control failure but both still work that it is in limp mode . the cat has been removed so I just want to check if he actually plugged one in already or if I have to buy one .I just don't know where it is located
@@LITTLEBRAT775081 It will probably be somewhere under the seat. You can pull up the wiring once it is unplugged to clean up the frame and it should be under there towards the right hand side. If the bike goes into a limp mode, then you definitely need it. Or what you have isn't working but that's not likely. We have never heard of one of the Healtech dongles failing. Hope this helps!
For 1090 2017 if I remove the container, do I install the kit sas stage 2 or For 3?
Does rhis need coding or diagnostics after deleting?
Not at all. The dongles make the bike think the valves are still there. You are good!
Hi,have u got any video for sas removal for Rc8R? Thanks
great vids, I really like the awesome scenery.
Can you do one for the 2021 ktm 690 smcr
We don't currently have one, but this video here may help. They are all pretty much the same principal but with subtle differences.
General info (old video): th-cam.com/video/5DTyETP-IoA/w-d-xo.html
Link to 690 instructions: www.dropbox.com/s/78ewb85evfdjsq9/KTM%20690%20%282019%2B%29%20Emissions%20Removal%20Instructions.pdf?dl=0
Can I do this to my SMCR? Also
Yes sir!
Does this get rid of the chirping at idle?
Why not close the little air vent at the bottom of the airbox?
What time in the video are you speaking to so we can better answer your question?
is it the same thing for superduke 1290r 2020-2021??
We currently don't have a kit for that bike yet, but they are all almost the same in practice.
@@RottweilerPerformance thanks
More 👍🏼
Great instructions.
Thanks Dan! We try and they will only get better over time as we grow. Glad they helped.
What benefit does this have?
Removes allot of clutter in and around the bike and engine, drops about 2.5 lbs, gives you more space under the seat and reduces backfiring.
Rottweiler Performance but in performance does have benefit?
Do I have to drain the tank before doing this?
No, you do not. The fuel disconnect is a 'dry break' and there is no petcock to turn off. Just disconnect it and remove the tank. Watch your eyes when you disconnect it though as some fuel will come out.
@@RottweilerPerformance thank you
It would make job damm easier
And how much power will you gain .001 hp
It's done when changing to a full system. Not something you'd do on stock setup.
Why such ugly yellow hose on an "orange is the new black" KTM?
We used this becuase it's the exact same hose the Dakar bikes used. Trust us, if they made orange, we would be all over that. But they do not. Clear looks messy over time and we need to see through the hose and this is our only high quality option.
Hi...I have one question, I'm thinking about purchase your intake system and SAS stage 3 for my 2011 RC8R, also together with aftermarket exhaust. I believe in that case the PC5 is needed. Do you have some map for PC5 already made for your intake and aftermarket exhaust which you can share with me? :] Because its difficult to go somewhere here in Czech Republic and let somebody to make good map for the bike.
Thank you.
We have a really good map for that bike but it is for a 2010 with single plugs. That being said, I can't see the fueling values would be all that different at all as fueling with FI is not much different in theory than jetting. It's just a 'certain amount' at a give time of throttle and RPM. I think that the difference in environment where you are riding would be a greater change in a fueling map than going from 1 to 2 spark plugs. You could use the map on our downloads page part number RC8-1190-2010-IN-EX-PCV-(CV). We made this one ourselves and it works VERY well.
CPRFAB Thank you for the answer. I will download and definitely try your map once all the parts will be on the bike and compare it to standard settings.
I know one man with dyno, who can measure the differences, so we know the results. I keep you posted.
why companies waste their and consumers time putting that s@#$ in... so we now have to get ride off this.
Robson Enduro its because of the goverment with their rules to have a cleaner world... while airplanes and busses are doing alot more dirt to the world...
Global politics force manufacturers into cleaner emissions. So they find cheap, simple and usually bad methods to reach emission standards. Note that none of these methods benefit the engine, they never do.
