Not only will you learn about bushcraft / woodcraft but you will learn many things that will help you to survive in less than ideal "survival" situations as well. Come along and sit with me by the campfire as I delve into these subjects in a way that you can easily learn to then do yourself.
    I will show you how to make shelters, gather food, use wild medicines as well as start fires with or without matches, lighters, ferro rods, etc

    I am not a citizen of the United States, but I share the common spirit of people of the Northern countries. Here, in Québec (home of the first bushcrafter in North America :) , it is not the thanks giving, but I owe return your best wishes, and I shall add, sir that my best thoughts are with you, spiritual brother and sister. Take care.

    One good thing about building a fire that way is that making all those shaving will warm you before the fire. You’ll be warmed twice! 😀👍Awesome video!

    dear lonnie, for a small investment a metal pencil sharperer has provided initial tinder for fire making. This allows processing of pencil size sticks that have been "standing and dry". LOVE your channel, my wife particularly is enthusiastic of connie cooking segments. You seem a GREAT couple and your love for her is apparent. Dave and shirley Brown Queensland Australia

      @Far-North-Bushcraft-Survival  6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I have one of those large carpenter sized pencil sharpeners that i carry in my pack for that purpose. However the one I have only allows a stick to sharpen until it bottoms out in the sharpener and then it no longer makes shavings. I then have to cut the stick off again and reshape the end so that it will fit in teh sharpener only to get another short length of shavings. In other words, the model of sharpener that i have, really is not worth using for fire shaving generation purposes. Thanks for the kind words.

    • @cephasmartin8593
      @cephasmartin8593 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      David Brown I have seen them used on other channels. I like to save the shavings from our pencil sharpener here. It's surprisingly how fast they add up. My #1 son teaches industrial arts at a high school and he has lots of sawdust. I haven't tried it for starting kindling, it might be too fine unless it's sprinkled over a small flame.

      I light about 90 % of my fires with a bic or zippo lighter. However I do not rely on them as a survival fire starter. Since I spend so much time in the woods, I always have about 4 different ways of lighting a fire on me all the time as well as the ability to fashion several others from natural local found material I am very experienced and knowledgeable on primitive fire methods. (See video playlist links below) I was the one who introduced the traditional sitting method of the Eskimo Strap Drill to the web. However I still light the majority of my fires with a lighter since they are so easy and convenient and I do not feel the need to prove anything to anybody.

      Since Thanksgiving is all about being thankful to God for the bounty of the land that has been harvested, I was able to talk our extended family dinner to be primarily exactly that, bounty of the harvest quite a few years ago. I no longer remember what we had now but we had things like Caribou, moose, bear, halibut, salmon and recipes that included wild berries and garden produce. I thought it was a great holiday. Unfortunately I have been outvoted by the women and they have gone back to the ole turkey, stuffing etc of traditional Thanksgiving fare. We don't even have wild turkeys in Alaska. :o) lol
